I'm just wondering what other people's opinions of this are and have name changed for this. An acquaintance of mine on Facebook has just posted a picture of a brand new expensive SUV declaring she has been waiting 'years for this'. As far as I know, she doesn't work, doesn't own her own home, yet her partner has a small garage. AIBU to wonder, where I'm going wrong in life? I have a full time well paid job, yet this is beyond reach. I am a homeowner so perhaps that's the difference? I'm assuming renters just know that they are never going to get accepted for a mortgage, just need to do splurge and therefore know that car finance is a lot easier to get than a mortgage?? Or are they just not sensible with money, and that's the reason they are in that situation?

My neighbour was a retired clock repairer .He lived with a TA from the local primary school. Presented to the world as a kindly old man who wanted to be a school governor. Turned out he was growing thousands of pounds worth of cannabis in a huge warehouse 12 miles away. He was caught because 2 young men came from Birmingham to rob him and he blew the leg off one of them with a sawn off shotgun. I've never seen so many police in the whole of my life. You never know how people live and fund themselves Op.

I'm really sad for you that someone else's happy moment getting their dream car has made you so upset.

Some people express their unbridled joy by sharing their good news, not realising that there are people out there like you, judging them as not worthy of it.

It may be nowhere near as much money as you are assuming for starters.

Well aren't u a peach? I've wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds in renting over the years. Because I was desperate to move out at 22 and in with my boyfriend and got stuck. I've had a couple of new cars over the years because they're more reliable to get to work. Take your head out of your arse OP

I was desperate to move out too but decided to save to avoid getting stuck. I've always driven older, good quality cars and chosen makes which were well known and reliable. There is nothing to say a newer car is actually more reliable if you make wise choices and read reliability reviews.

Your post has made me cry …how dare you dismiss renters !! My daughter is working her arse off studying her MA to be a SW …to help people! My daughter and her child are literally living on anything that I can do to help her …she is going to come home to me next week so I can help and support her ..she is not splurging on a fucking car !!

A lot of people would be a lot happier if they concentrated on their own lives rather than worrying about what other people have got and how they can afford it. How do you all know so much about other people’s finances anyway?

Oh no, someone has consumed somewhat more than I have and my ego is tarnished. If I can't get the shiniest and biggest mobile ecological disaster to ferry my kids 500 metres up the road to school, no one will love me.

Get off social media. Put something better in your head, because Facebook ain't it.

Also, it could be a totally fake boast because everyone is apparently insecure as fuck now and has to go in debt to "show them".

Great system. Definitely sustainable.

I can’t see how it’s “boasting” to post about how you’ve finally got something nice you’ve wanted for many years.

As a general rule, if you have ”friends” on Facebook for whom you don’t feel genuine joy and happiness when they post about their achievements and things which they’re proud of, you aren’t their friend and they shouldn’t be on your Facebook.

Maybe time for you to come off Facebook. You sound very scathing of other people's lifestyle choices. Your assumptions about people who rent are, quite frankly, repellent. Why on earth would you assume that renters somehow have more disposable income to throw around? And where did you get the idea that it was their profligate spending that led them down the rental route? Such a strange mixture of smugness and jealousy.

Our tenants have an M760Li. It’s really nice. I’ve no idea if they’ve ever put it on Facebook, though, but it never struck me as being unexpected or strange.

It seems more as though your friends have touched a nerve with you.
