Help - Lost $2400

As per my title, I have lost a serious amount of money. And no - not on the horses, I've just actually lost it , physically!
It was cash from an online sale and they definitely gave us the money. Last night ( I may have been a tad tipsy) and I decided I should put all that cash away and not leave it in the dining room on the table.
Woke up this morning and I have NO IDEA where I put it!
Before people accuse me of having dementia or something , I am known for this within the family and my mother is too.
Growing up, if you asked mum where something was and she said " oh, I put that in a safe place" well you knew you weren't going to see that for a while. She is now 88 and just starting to forget other things!
We are both completely capable in other ways - just exceptionally good hiders.
I really need to find this though as we need the money!
I have a memory of putting it in a drawer , but I've checked every drawer in the house, and then I thought maybe I'd put it between the leaves of some books. I own hundreds and hundreds of books. Here's hoping I didn't do that. DH will be home in an hour and I've searched everywhere.
HELP PLEASE. ANy ideas no matter how odd appreciated.
ETA - $2400 aussie - I havent checked the cash rates but roughly 1500 pounds!
Not exactly "oops dropped a tenner out of my bag running for the bus type thing.

Um know this isn't really an AIBU but am desperate for ideas.
I feel I am unreasonable for being so incapable!

Look under everything, even if it’s unlikely. Under the sofa, behind & under the appliances in the kitchen, behind & under decorative items, under common, everyday things you’ve always got out that never move.

Check your recycling / bin before they go out. You might have put the envelope into the recycling with cash inside. That’s the kind of thing I’d do

I hate losing things like this. Once my DH couldn’t find his bank card and left for work in a massive huff (it was pre-Apple Pay etc), about 10 mins after he left, I found that toddler DD had “hidden” it under the front room rug! Boy was he mad

And another time, I used my bank card for an online payment one evening. Next day it was GONE… Boy was I mad! Luckily I got by with Apple Pay until my scheduled replacement card arrived. THEN, weeks later, I wore my dressing gown and wouldn’t you know, it was in the pocket!

So those 2 places are my only suggestions to you… or maybe under the puppies’ basket/cushion (as surely you would’ve had a pre-bedtime cuddle!)

OP, it's of no help to you, but right after reading this thread I picked up my hiking backpack, slid my hand into one of its pockets and found my bus pass that has been missing for the last month.

I had thoroughly checked the backpack at least three times since mid-June, every nook and cranny, I swear. Only explanation is that the house goblins knew shit was about to get real and so quickly snuck it back in there.

My dh lost his car keys once, only set. We looked everywhere. After about 2 months we had the locks changed on the car at great expense. Only to find the keys in the cheese compartment in the fridge door 🙈. It was too high for either of the kids so it must have been dh that put it there.

I also lost my brand new (expensive) watch. A year later we found it in the garden... my 3 year old had buried it!!

Rather annoyingly by DH but still YAY! I feel like the weight of the world is off my shoulders and I can sleep tonight. I've been jumping up and checking odd places in the middle of the night looking for it!.
After all that it was in one of those cube style bookshelves. You know, where each square has a cube you can pull out and then push back in, usually canvas or something. I think that's why I thought it was a drawer!
It was in the one with the dogs old stuff!!
So relieved.

@MistressoftheDarkSide . I don't believe in that stuff, it was just so weird that I have a blue round glass vase. All of my relatives are from various parts of the UK - maybe we have a connection! I am super happy but have already blown $50 on takeaway!.

I’m very much an open minded sceptic (well, I’m a Capricorn which explains that 😂) but I am quite fascinated by it - sometimes the world is just - weird!!

I have relatives on my Dad’s side in Australia that I have never met or communicated with - that would be a proper Twilight Zone moment 😂

I do think there’s a sort of energy that binds everything together that we’ll probably never understand….. but life would be very boring if there was no mystery….. I sometimes think of it as the Cosmic Joke…..

Well I'm stumped you need our mistress of the dark side. Fallen to the floor under the messy pile of shoes and crap that are at the bottom of your wardrobe ( oh no that's me).
