No not that one. Carrie when they were having an affair and he was foreign secretary. Wanted to appoint her yo £100k job she wasn't qualified for and without declaring an interest. Story was in The Tumes but has disappeared. Super injunction??

During the election campaign Donald Trump referred to Johnson as “Britain Trump.”

Steady on I thought, poor guy I don’t think he’s that bad! But now it’s clear that he’s singing from the same playbook.

The attempt to constantly overwhelm of corruption, sleaze and open lying so that our tolerance lowers. The empty policy ideas playing to “the base” rather than actually attempting to address problems. Attacking fundamental institutions or attempting to fill them with cronies. I could go on.

It feels like we’re on a path to something really bad happening.

O lord things are grim. I hope they get they get their arses kicked tomorrow. If they don't, I'll have no hope left.

AmaryIlis · 22/06/2022 08:14

I am concerned that they are using the strike for all they are worth to try to win back votes. I hope the voters can see that the issue wouldn't arise but for their mismanagement of the economy.

Labour are going to absolutely walk Wakefield, not sure the bookies are even taking bets on that one any more. It's the sort of constituency the Tories were going to have to work really hard to hold at the next GE even without the nonce issue.

Tiverton is harder to call, it's historically a real true blue Tory seat and there is a 25k majority to overturn. Odds for the Tories and Lib Dems looking quite close there, I think it could go either way. I hope anti-Tories vote sensibly there.

Alastair Campbell tweeting that Dacre is to be elevated to the Lords. They really are trolling us aren't they.

Guy Fawkes had the right idea it seems.

Raab calling the job question "unsavoury" and an attack on Carrie Johnson.

Raab missing the point as usual - Johnson was the one scouting for jobs for his lover.

If there is anything unsavoury it's Johnson's methods of getting his lovers tax payers money.

Notonthestairs · 22/06/2022 08:36

It's the sort of move approved by Trump (and his children) & Berlusconi.

Raab calling the job question "unsavoury" and an attack on Carrie Johnson

I agree, the whole thing is unsavoury and shouldn’t be a position any member of the cabinet should put themselves and acquaintances in. It’s not hard to not be a nepotistic grifter, much more effort to be one.

Anybody ‘feeling’ attacked needs to look at the root of the problem.

Cornettoninja · 22/06/2022 08:49

Just a reminder that our prime minister regularly complains of being potless and is a prime target for corruption. metro.co.uk/2021/07/30/boris-johnson-regularly-complains-he-cant-afford-to-do-his-job-15015430/amp/

Isn’t it the police that closely monitor their officers for signs of financial difficulties due to the danger of corruption?

He is so arrogant and with no respect for common decency or ethics. Does he see nothing wrong with abusing his position?

Nope. He really doesn’t.

If you have the chance have a look at some interviews where questions have been put to him directly about his misbehaviours, he firmly believes that he is the victim for being persecuted when people hold him to account.

Rees-Mogg is the same. I’ll never forget the reopening of schools in September 2020. LFT’s were universally available and the guidance in schools was to test for symptoms. There weren’t enough tests because the government couldn’t have possibly foreseen a surge in demand on schools reopening. Rees-Moggs stood in parliament and told us off like children for whining.

BIL works for a major supplier to one of the arms of the armed forces. The lawyer for MIL's estate suggested distributing the cash (the moveable estate) before MIL's house was sold. BIL said that that would cause him problems as he has to account for every deposit of >£5,000, which is to guard against potential selling of secrets corruption. It's therefore easier for him to get the proceeds in one lump sum.

Cornettoninja · 22/06/2022 09:26

Thanks, I was trying to think of another example @prettybird

I know MP’s have to self-declare a lot but openly complaining about your finances in a position of power should trigger extra checks surely?

Cornettoninja · 22/06/2022 09:28

Basically I’m implying that Johnson feathering Carries nest benefits him indirectly.

If she’s qualified, talented, and connected in her own right she shouldn’t have any problem finding her own well paid position. His ex-wife managed it.

newnamethanks · 22/06/2022 10:19

This question is quite late in the game but has Carrie Johnson actually got a job in No 10? As well as being the current Mrs Johnson has she got an official post? If she has, what is it? If not, why has she got an 'office and aides'?

WaitroseWoman · 22/06/2022 12:34

As with DeathGate, PartyGate, NoConfidenceGate and all the numerous other Gates, I suspect Boris Johnson wants us all 'to draw yet another line' under the whole CarrieGate issue and 'move on'. They were in an extra-marital relationship then, and she was his mistress then, but now they are married, she is his wife, the mother of two of his various children, and it's all terribly decent and worthy of respect and protection. Add to this that he can remind everyone that she is the mother of young children and suggest that all this unreasonable requirement for lefty ethics, lawfulness and accountability amounts to bullying and is not good for her Mental Health, and there you have a very useful shield for both of them to do as they wish.

Incorrect.

Pedallleur · 22/06/2022 12:57

she was but there is a process to follow. Not 'Oh, I'm shagging this bit of totty in my office, can you give her a nice job so I can continue to do so?'

Assanctamonioysastheycome · 22/06/2022 13:13

@roarfeckingroarr yawnfeckingyawn... How many times are you going to tell us this ? Every political thread you are on. Big on you for your lack of moral integrity. Nowt to be proud of.

Notonthestairs · 22/06/2022 13:42

Some posters like to normalise Johnson's behaviour - "they are all at it", "they are all the same" etc. It is simply not true. I'm sure there are a fair few in the Conservatives who squirm every time a new scandal breaks (so a couple of times a week).
One day they might find their backbones and give him the heave-ho.

Anyway interesting how Johnson couldn't give a straight answer to the direct yes/no question of finding Carrie employment. He wriggled and spouted something irrelevant.
I take that as a Yes.

In fairness BJ always does give an answer. Might not be an answer to the question he was asked but it’s an answer.
