A bird, not a neighbour for the last part.

AIBU here? My neighbour constantly throws food out to the birds, anything goes. I’m fed up with it,

Seagulls are sky rats, you really don't want to be chucking human food out for them.

Seagulls are wonderful and intelligent creatures. They live for 20 years.
I had the same two gulls nest on my roof for 15 years (then I had to move for work). We had a great relationship. I would give them a very occasional fish and in return they would not attack me when they had chicks and kept the other gulls away.
They would bring their chicks to see me when I was sitting in the garden, mother gull was so tame I could stroke her head, father was not so trusting.
If you respect nature it will respect you.

That's a lovely story @Shehasadiamondinthesky . They probably missed you when you moved.

Sniffypete · 21/06/2022 12:54

Birds shit at random. Usually on my washing line.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 21/06/2022 13:04

A surprisingly high number of people have taken the bait here! Ha ha, this thread made me smile.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 21/06/2022 13:20

They must have, I certainly miss them. There are no gulls where I live now as it's inland.

It’s seagulls mostly. A huge flock of them on this occasion. I did tell my neighbour and they apologised but didn’t look impressed when I told them to stop feeding them.

You can get one of these which does a good job of scaring seagulls away.

Birds are ace. Be kind to the little creatures. My neighbour cut down all her trees because the birds shit on her car - she will regret that when we are all gasping for air in 40 degrees.

If you "told" me to do anything hell would freeze over first...

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/06/2022 13:59

Feeding seagulls is a very poor idea - never mind pooing, you need to worry about aggression. I would definitely not encourage these birds into my garden. They also hoover up the food you put out for smaller birds (although they don’t like most bird seed).

Assuming that this is real, I don't think you'll have much luck changing anything. I have people over the road who are absolutely fucking batshit. They feed other people's cats on a roughly every 20 minutes basis. Top up bowls left on their drive etc. They also go and buy chicken every day which they cook and throw to the cats. They throw it into the street for cats which might be underneath cars etc. I'm not joking. They actually wear headtorches to come out and do it at night.

I now have seagulls sitting on my roof and they swoop down to catch the chicken before it's even hit the ground. My neighbour says that they have pecked out all of the grout between the ridge tiles on his roof.

I have called the council a couple of times who have advised me that they can do nothing about them feeding animals. They can tell them they will be fined if they throw it into the street, but they can't stop them doing it on their own drive. The throwing doesn't make much of a difference - the cats pick it up and bring it down to my drive to eat anyway. Bones, rotting meat and shit is a lovely combination to have hanging around your front door. It's utterly disgusting and I've stopped complaining because I want to move in a few years.

And their cat shits on my freshly laid faux grass. It’s a nightmare. I really don’t want to have to move because of this.

You're behaving completely irrationally. Birds shit. That's life.

we both have our own gardens - not communal.

I'd have told you to fuck off personally. And I have a young child myself. Its HER garden. She can become the pigeon lady from Home Alone 2 if she wants ffs. Try putting your child under a parasol if a tiny of bird shit bothers you that much
