Neighbour constantly throwing food out to birds and now one shit on my baby

A bird, not a neighbour for the last part.

AIBU here? My neighbour constantly throws food out to the birds, anything goes. I’m fed up with it,

OP posts:

A) the RSPCA are worse than useless and I wouldn’t listen to them on any subject. If reputable wildlife groups put this out that would be different.
B) it depends on the food being offered. OP doesn’t specify.

As can some people on Mumsnet.

Yes, but at least we don't shit on people's fake grass. Often.

GreenChihuahua · 18/06/2022 18:17

Birds poo everywhere. You should see my car at the moment and it’s only 3 days since I took it through the car wash. I feed my birds every day. I happen to think we should all feed the birds; they rely on us, especially in the winter.

Feeding the birds has got nothing to do with what happened.

SnotsGotTheBoobies · 18/06/2022 18:21

They say it’s lucky to be shat on by a bird! Good luck to you!
to be honest, I wasn’t too keen on birds either, until I rescued a pigeon from certain death. I kept him in a cat carrier in my living room and he was just a sweetheart. He would climb on my arm every time I opened the carrier and then he would sit on my shoulder and settle so sweetly there! I’ll see if I can get a pic……

I can’t see how it’s unreasonable to expect neighbour not to throw out uneaten dinner for birds. It’s disgusting

Disgusting how??

Does your kid ( or you) ever eat outside and potentially drop bits/crumbs?

Same birds would swoop down to eat them!

CallOnMe · 18/06/2022 18:25

If you can’t afford to live in a detached house with no neighbours then you need to put up with some of their behaviours.

Cyclebabble · 18/06/2022 18:25

Faux grass? This is a wind up right?

SnotsGotTheBoobies · 18/06/2022 18:26

Cadwallader the pigeon on my DD’s shoulder.

Buy a Sparrowhawk.

GreenChihuahua · 18/06/2022 18:28

That’s so cute!

IchbindieBeste · 18/06/2022 18:30

Faux grass.....but why?😬

fossilsmorefossils · 18/06/2022 18:36

Saausage · 18/06/2022 16:31

And their cat shits on my freshly laid faux grass. It’s a nightmare. I really don’t want to have to move because of this.

Damn. I actually believed your OP. You really shouldn't go to far with trolling but you did make me laugh!

Really?

ilovesooty · 18/06/2022 18:38

I don't think cats are particularly interested in fake grass.

And birds don't shit on your baby because the neighbours feed them.

Rosiesmydog · 18/06/2022 18:42

YABU - two reasons…expecting random birds to not shit on your baby and also for having plastic grass

ItWillBeOkHonestly · 18/06/2022 18:43

Chances are even if your neighbour never put out another meal, a bird would still have pooped on your baby. It's what birds do...they like freshly washed cars, shiny new windows and unfortunately if they happen to be in the way, babies too! Don't spoil neighbourly relations by blaming them. 😊

ladydimitrescu · 18/06/2022 18:45

Imagine moving over it 😂
Shock horror op - there are cats and birds EVERYWHERE- they aren't indigenous to your garden! You'll encounter animal shit wherever you may move, sounds as if you're already familiar with bat shit as well 😁

Faux grass?
Sorry - I've moved over to the neighbour's side!

Haha birds revenge for his fellow force fed ducks

mathanxiety · 18/06/2022 18:54

I've been shat on by birds three times. No food for the birds was involved on any of the unfortunate occasions. The common factor in all three incidents was the fact that I was outdoors. Birds spend 99.9999% of their time outdoors and that is why they tend to shit outdoors.

Leaving food out for birds anywhere but a bird feeder is going to encourage mice and rats, so on that basis I'd be miffed if a neighbour was strewing it on the ground. But if your baby is outdoors there's a slim chance she'll be unlucky with bird poop.

LOL. Your first post was troll-y, this confirms it

Don't feed the troll ppl

supercalafragalistico · 18/06/2022 18:55

YANBU.
We have exactly the same problem with our neighbour feeding them and it is driving us mad. Robins, sparrows, blue tits, etc., no problem, they are a delight.
But seagulls, those flappy white bastards have no business hanging in gardens. They are huge, aggressive to humans and pets and belong on cliffs or out at sea catching fish or whatever their natural diet is.

I have been swooped on and pecked on the head by one in my garden and it bloody hurt. They also attack the cat, wind up the dog, shit on the washing and I have to keep the patio doors shut because one walked into kitchen the other day and started eating the cat's food. I've seen also them eat ducklings and other baby birds. And those of you saying its fine because we should encourage wildlife, would you feel the same about rats? Slugs? Mosquitoes?

Why, who will she shit on if we feed her?

Actually, I know the the answer - us!

Skynorth · 18/06/2022 19:03

Birds shit. End of story. Your neighbour putting food out for them has no bearing on this.
Try living on a farm!

a1poshpaws · 18/06/2022 19:14

You can do whatever you want in your own garden. So can your neighbour.

All you achieved by telling him to "stop feeding them" is to have now got a neighbour who will continue feeding seagulls but won't lift a finger to help you in any way in the future, because he sees you as a spoilt, entitled brat.

Your wishes don't trump his.

(Also, you're being ridiculous - try imagining being stuck in an underground shelter in Ukraine with no water or food for you and your baby, THEN you'd have something to complain about.)
