Flight to Rwanda

lbab1702 · 14/06/2022 19:18

I’d love to get a flight to Rwanda. Beautiful country and people ( I’ve been there before) but I don’t understand why refugees to the U.K. should go there.

We've given a host of alternatives

Oh yes, we did hear a few harebrained ideas that were entirely unworkable, and the reasons list further up the thread. It might be better if you RTWT

and suggest tin pot ideas that will never work and still they seem to protest at the idea of a policy that might actually work...

some people on here think the same as you, just the other way around

that rwanda is a tin pot idea that will never work

Perfect28 · 15/06/2022 20:09

There is a wealth of evidence on how immigration is beneficial to an economy. I happen to think increased cultural diversity is great for society too. If we are really serious about stopping these boats we would be offering safe ferry passage.

Alexandra2001 · 15/06/2022 20:09

As for the wasted money ask the protesters about that. Essentially sabotaging our efforts because they know if they come up with a half plausible objection to someone going we must investigate it

Don't you agree with human rights?

Some of the people put on that plane had wives and children.... The ECHR only said delay until a review as they didn't trust the UK to bring them back if proven unfair.
If its correct to send a Yemeni to Rwanda, its equally fair to send a Ukrainian or are Saudi bombs (often supplied by us) less deadly than Russian ones?

Freerangechildren · 15/06/2022 20:09

some people on here think the same as you, just the other way around

Not many though, you must be disappointed.

Thank you for that excellent comment truth

LastTrainEast · 15/06/2022 20:11

"Because it's not safe. There's plenty of evidence for that"

Safer than here since everyone is sure the UK is nazi germany reborn. Why would you want the nice immigrants forced to stay here?

lonelyapple · 15/06/2022 20:11

You can't have open borders and a welfare system/functioning NHS/cheap housing. There is only so much tax people are prepared to pay to support this and only so much housing/healthcare/schools available.

What happens when hundreds of thousands are coming every year and are a net cost? Who pays for everything? Where are they housed, who pays for that, who pays their medical bills, who pay for any benefits they might claim? It's very easy to welcome millions of people over several years but someone has to foot the bill which means higher taxes which most people don't want to pay, especially if it means their own quality of life and ability to pay rent/mortgage goes down.

Perfect28 · 15/06/2022 20:12

Truthhertz, 'Islam has a terrorism problem'. Would you like to go and do a little research about this. Try specifically comparing Islamic terrorism to White/far right/Christian terrorism.
You're a racist. You just refuse to accept it.

Lonelycrab · 15/06/2022 20:12

and still they seem to protest at the idea of a policy that might actually work

Of course it won’t bloody work, most intelligent people can see that.

It’s simply a policy designed to whip up hatred and division to deflect from the fucking shambles that this govt is causing.
Hatred that’s turning towards the ECHR.

Perfect28 · 15/06/2022 20:15

Lonelyapple I just said there's a wealth of evidence that migrants have a net increase to the economy of a country. Again, the idea (without evidence) that migrants take more than they give, is based on racism.

Bingbangbongbash · 15/06/2022 20:15

AmaryIlis · 15/06/2022 11:45

It's exactly the same number of judges as every other country involved. That's the way international organisations work.

If we withdrew from the ECHR, it has very wide ramifications, not least with the US. Pissing them off and sacrificing trade deals with them purely to pacify the more racist element of our population would be just a tad short-sighted.

Shortsighted appeasement of racists?

isn’t that the current Tory manifesto?

Freerangechildren · 15/06/2022 20:16

Are you missing your cheap cleaners and foot scrubbers by any chance perfect? I know just the kind of person that says bring them all in, and their motivation is simply to have cheap labour on tap and endless lost souls to do the shit jobs that no one wants to do because the pay and conditions are so bad. So rather than address the bad pay and conditions you would rather ferry the migrants in and then you can take advantage of the misguided migrants looking for the streets paved in gold.

It is depraved and entirely deficient of morals to offer ferries to migrants that want to come here without also considering where they are going to live - how they will be cared for when they are ill, how will the schools cope etc etc etc. Housing is now at crisis levels already, nor how we will support them. It is a grotesque suggestion perfect almost certainly rooted in self interest.

Perfect28 · 15/06/2022 20:16

Oh and we don't have affordable housing or functioning services. This is a big reason we would benefit from an increase in the labour force.

Alexandra2001 · 15/06/2022 20:17

Islamic terrorism? Islam has 100s of millions of committed followers, a very tiny number have twisted Islam to justify murder.

Plenty of Christians would condemn homosexuality and abortion too.

Sorry but you are racist with comments like "They may have been british by nationality but..."
Doubt you cheer for Mo Farah either.

AmaryIlis · 15/06/2022 20:18

Apologies for my error in believing that the government would admit those they have deported who are found to have genuine asylum claims. Obviously I credited the government with too much sense and humanity.

However, I do note that although those sent to Rwanda under the deal would have no ‘automatic right’ to come back to the UK, the Home Office anticipates the possibility of UK courts making ‘bring back’ orders upon which Rwanda can take reasonable steps to return people to the UK. "Can" is an interesting term there and seems to have led to some of the courts' concerns.

This does however raise some very interesting questions about the legality of the whole thing. On what basis, if any, can we tell people who have applied to us for asylum and who qualify for asylum here that they have to go to another country where they have no connections, don't want to go, and where the human rights record is iffy? We wouldn't do that to a British citizen, including those who have settled here - why should people who have already been forced out of their homes and lost everything be subjected to it? Especially if they have the misfortune to be gay.

Perfect28 · 15/06/2022 20:19

Free-rangechildren why are they doing shit jobs? Again your assumption there is racist. There are plenty of skilled and qualified people who are risking their lives crossing the Channel (and more besides). You know what? People can learn to do things, it's kind of what British people do too, they go to school, start an apprenticeship, start a business...

Freerangechildren · 15/06/2022 20:21

Especially if they have the misfortune to be gay I am pretty sure anyone can be gay for the few months it takes to process.

Free-rangechildren why are they doing shit jobs? If they were professionals they could apply for visas through official channels like everyone else perfect As I said pure self interest without a thought for the dire quality of life that is waiting for most of them. Disgusting.

Alexandra2001 · 15/06/2022 20:21

Syrian "illegal" who flew into the UK pre CV, was a highly qualified Doctor and cared for my mum, application successful under your policy, she'd be cleaning in Kigali.... or trafficked back to Europe.

what an insult to tell us all they are crim's, illiterate and good for cleaning only ... when they aren't on the run.

Freerangechildren · 15/06/2022 20:22

And where are your ferry loads of migrants going to live exactly?

Do you know how many rental properties we have available here this week? 0

Absolutely none, nothing.

Troll hunting

Perfect28 · 15/06/2022 20:24

Do you fully understand the visa requirements? There are a significant number of shortage industries and proffesions which don't qualify. Look, why don't you go and actually learn about these things rather than call me names over the internet. I can't help that I prefer to base my opinions about these matters in facts and stats.

AmaryIlis · 15/06/2022 20:26

Freerangechildren · 15/06/2022 19:08

Do pp have an idea of numbers it would take in schemes to then get to no boat crossings?

That is the million dollar question! Hundreds of millions perhaps tipping even higher. There will always be a failed asylum seekers somewhere that choose to press on anyway.

People have the weirdest ideas about the desirability of Britain as a destination for refugees. The figures for asylum seekers in other countries demonstrate that, believe it or not, other countries are deemed as desirable if not more so.

Freerangechildren · 15/06/2022 20:26

perfect The government have just expanded the list, so your timing is impeccable, why not go and check out the update? It also includes fruit pickers and farm workers. Sadly it does not include cleaners for your house or foot scrubbers paid on the cheap.

You have answered the question, where on earth are all these people going to live?

TarasHarp55 · 15/06/2022 20:26

Try specifically comparing Islamic terrorism to White/far right/Christian terrorism.

You can't be serious. Have you tried comparing?
