Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

Love threads like these.

Sean Lock didn’t have a West Country accent, he was from the Home Counties.

Jethro for a guess?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 13:20

some peers couldn’t stop showing off and telling anyone who’d listen about what they’d been doing and who with. ‘Hey look at me everyone, I’ve been having loads of SEX and one night stands and everything because I’m so grown up and cool’

Were your peers actually Richie from Bottom?! Grin

waterlego · 09/06/2022 13:27

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll 😂
You’d think so, but it was mostly young women doing this type of bragging! There were some girls who couldn’t stop banging on about how liberated and daring and SECKSHUAL they were. Maybe it was the Girl Power/Ladette/Libfem vibe of the time!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 09/06/2022 13:31

A very NI specific one - ‘Ma’ from ‘Give my head peace’ is a delight with a wonderful sense of humour.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 09/06/2022 13:31

Mairiam Margolyes is awful, imagine a male celebrity talking like that.
My celeb interactions are David Niven lovely to me and Jensen Button vile.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 13:32

To be fair, it's always going to be a bigger challenge for Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen than for somebody like Gok Wan or JB Gill to fit his signature in a small space Grin

That's interesting what PP says about Russell Watson, especially when contrasting it with Aled Jones. I've heard Aled refer to Russell as 'my good friend' a few times - I don't know if he means actual close friends or if it's just a nice way of saying 'frequent co-singer'. Then again, we all know friends - couples even - where one of them is very kind and the other is nasty. I suppose they have a different dynamic between themselves than each does with an 'outsider'.

I'd love to know who first gave RW the nickname 'The Voice'. I really hope it wasn't something he himself came up with, like Bette Midler styling herself as 'the divine Miss M'. It's a very strangely superlative nickname for somebody who is probably averagely-talented in his profession. Yes, of course he has a far better singing voice than the average person, but hardly outstanding amongst professional opera and classical singers, even some pop and rock singers - a great many of whose voices are noticeably stronger, wider-ranging and (subjectively) more pleasant to the ear than his.

Roger Moore screamed at me as a little girl - he lived next door and my bike was on his drive and he wanted to get his car out. My bike was too big for me and I struggled to lift it up. I was about 5 or 6 and have never forgotten it. My mum however put her full makeup on in case she "accidentally" bumped into him outside lol 😂

PolkadotsAndCandyfloss · 09/06/2022 13:40

Haven’t met many, but:

  • My MIL grew up knowing Rowan Atkinson and didn’t have good things to say.
  • She also met Alex from the One Show at a country fair and said she was lovely and just started chatting to her.
  • We met Tracey from Corrie in a train station and she was really nice and happy to chat.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 13:42

Mairiam Margolyes is awful, imagine a male celebrity talking like that.

Even a significantly younger female celeb wouldn't get away with it, really. I think she actively trades on looking like a sweet innocent grandma and then coming out with absolute filth - it's wearing very, very thin now, though.

I too was surprised at how very many notable and graphic willing sexual encounters she's apparently had with men, for a lesbian. Just pondering, but maybe she deliberately does it to compartmentalise her 'professional' shock tales from her own (probably unremarkable) real private life.

misseeychristina · 09/06/2022 13:42

Laura Anderson is so far up her own backside… she is a poor replacement for Caroline on love island

@SunnyShiner

I thought the original quote of being loud so people would notice her was about Martine McCutcheon.......😬😬

I've just been horrified for the past 20 minutes thinking Martine had wanked off a tramp 🤣🤣🤣🤣 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

For some reason it seems more accepting for Miriam to have done it!

I personally found this story rather amusing when she told it. Miriam Margolyes “helped out” a guy who was actually a soldier in Edinburgh sitting in a tree, already in the act. She told him off and demanded he come down… then, well…yeah. (Assuming it’s true).

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 13:54

Miriam Margolyes “helped out” a guy who was actually a soldier in Edinburgh sitting in a tree, already in the act.

Sorry, that was my poor memory mis-remembering the profession/status of the man involved. I don't think that's the main shocking element to focus on, mind!! My false-memory probably assumed that somebody with access to private accommodation in a building wouldn't be doing something like that in public!

DontStopMeNow7 · 09/06/2022 14:10

I agree the Miriam Margolyes stuff might be wearing a little thin now and certainly more so for me if she somehow isn’t a kind person. However I have found it all quite funny. The appeal is the not caring what people think. I’ve also noticed she puts people in their place which is sometimes warranted. I don’t think it’s all an act. Also, she has stated she didn’t “discover” she was a lesbian until later. Personally I’m not offended.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 09/06/2022 14:14

Another person I've played softball with was Sir Richard Rogers (architecture fame) - lovely, charming - just such a nice man.

His rival, Sir Terry Farrell, I used to work for. Nasty, snobby man who if he saw you in the street and knew you worked for him would deliberately walk past you.

Pennyhill22 · 09/06/2022 14:17

My sister works for a large broadcasting channel so have met quite a few celebs.

Denise Van Outen, nice but a bit common.
Vogue Williams, very friendly and down to earth.
Anthony Joshua, no personality and quite. dim.
Owen Farrell, very arrogant.
Laura Whitmore, fake and contrived.
Jimmy Carr, friendly and lovely manners.
Gary Lineker, up his own arse.
Liam Gallagher, great lad,had a good laugh and very kind.
Conor McGregor, an absolute delight engaging, personable and very interesting.
Katie Taylor, beautiful person, inside and out, so humble, gentle and kind.

Worse celeb was probably Rio Ferdinand, cold, uninterested and a twat.

My friend once saw Bob Geldof haggling in a charity shop.

Was he saying "Just give us your fecking money"?

Parkinglotlatte · 09/06/2022 14:23

My mum's friend met Nicola Sturgeon at a lunch for NHS employees. She was a secretary. Was sat right beside her and NS didn't say a word to her. Cold and aloof.

EverybodysBuildingShipsandBoats · 09/06/2022 14:25

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll no sympathy for the guy, he was flashing. His fault!

Carpediem15 · 09/06/2022 14:28

Craig Charles really is a dreadful person (know from a friends personal experience in Liverpool years ago) and it made my day to read that his radio show has been cancelled. Could not have happened to a nicer person.
According to a member of her family who became a member of ours she was never been regarded as a nice person.

EverybodysBuildingShipsandBoats · 09/06/2022 14:31

Poor taste to joke about it maybe, but MM's response to the flasher was fair enough. Public wanking is grim.

Carpediem15 · 09/06/2022 14:33

Sorry that last paragraph was Barbara Windsor

Ha! No! He wanted money off something!

CaveMum · 09/06/2022 14:40

Agree that Jimmy Carr seems a decent bloke - DH took me to one of his gigs about 10 years ago. At the end of the show Jimmy said he'd be in the lobby if anyone wanted photos/autographs and true to his word he stood out in the lobby and met with everyone that wanted to see him and happily stood for photos and signed autographs until the very end (we were one of the last). Plus he told DH he was punching above his weight to be married to me, so that makes him a good chap in my eyes <ignores the fact he probably said that to every couple he met that night>
