Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

This first Father Ted clip is how I've always imagined meeting Bob Geldof would be and it seems like it's not too far from the truth.

Saw one of the Chuckle brothers at Manchester airport over a decade ago, seemed lovely

I once bumped into them at an agricultural auction, when they'd both gone to meet a ewe <may not have actually happened>

😂

You might want to fact check yourself. Starmer was DPP in 2009. A local CPS lawyer in the South East gave the local decison on four cases brought to them. That's perfectly normal. I was a DC at that time, and a case like that, even involving a celebrity, wouldn't have gone higher than the local CPS lead. It's not about who you are, it's about what you've allegedly done.

Even right wing extremism cases I investigated only went to a regional level for terrorism - it's not normal for the DPP to get involved in decison making - that rests with the highly qualified and experienced lawyers working throughout the organisation.

Saville at that time wouldn't even have been likely to be in a briefing note to the DPP given it was 4 allegations - not uncommon in sexual offence cases.

Thank you CornishPorsche for backing up with facts, what was obvious to anyone but the most pathetically craven Johnson fan girl.

Nadine really should get off this thread and do some 'culture' work unless she's going to spill some beans about her jungle days when she went AWOL from her day job......

BlueMongoose · 09/06/2022 14:49

A mate in the industry found the same with Davidson. At the other end of the scale, I found Stanley Baxter to be gracious and kindly to everyone in the theatre from top to bottom of the pecking order- a really lovely man. American mates in the industry told me Yul Brynner was horrible. One staff member slipped up and called him Yul Brynner and not Mr Brynner ( you say Mr when addressing actors if you're stage staff) and he got the lad sacked for it.

There is no evidence he was personally involved in the Saville decision. Boris Johnson made that up.

I would imagine of this was flipped 180 degrees and it was Boris who was in charge at the CPS at the time and was DPP then you might have a different view.

Let's face it, the DPP at the time all this was happening was either incompetent or something else. Saville was (as far as we know) one of the largest and most visible paedophiles that this country has ever seen and we're expected to believe that Starmer "wasn't personally involved in the Saville decision." If he wasn't then he's incompetent at his job.

And then there's this interesting nugget of info:
"The report, by Alison Levitt QC, Starmer’s principal legal advisor, did not suggest that Starmer was involved in the charging decision. But this isn’t exactly a helpful observation. As Levitt complained in her report, which was published in 2013, four years after the charging decision, all CPS records of the case had been deleted from the system and were impossible to retrieve:

‘The CPS appears to have no record at all of this case, because the original file was returned to the police following the decision that no prosecution would take place. There is nothing on CMS; the only reference says that the file was “destroyed” on 26th October 2010. I am told that what this means is that because the decision had been reached that no further action should be taken, for data protection reasons and in accordance with our normal policy, the CMS record was automatically deleted. It is not now possible to retrieve it.’

Just imagine, silly old Boris is the DPP in charge of the CPS during the period of time when Saville wasn't prosecuted and then, hohohoho silly old Boris, all the files are then strangely deleted which could then let us know what actually happened and who was involved and what the decision making process was. Teeheeheeheehee oh what a moron he is, it was all just a complete accident in true bumbling Boris style.

Hmm possibly not.

Years ago I used to work in a cafe in Durham when I was a student and Roy Keane used to come in a lot. I don't follow football so had no idea who he was but he was really lovely, always. I looked him up once people told me who he was a famous footballer / manager and was shocked to see all these images of a snarling skinhead! Quite a contrast to the sweet, charming and a bit shyish and rather beautiful man I knew. He seemed quite lonely and I had quite a soft spot for him, if he hadn't been married I'd have been quite happy to keep him company!

That's complete twaddle.

It's irrelevant who the equivalent of the CEO was at the time of something handled locally.

I don't expect the CEO of Tesco to hear about late deliveries to the Portsmouth North Harbour branch when it's been handled by the local or regional manager.

I don't expect the Chief Constable of any police force to hear the details of every arrest made.

I don't expect Boris Johnson as PM to be briefed on every issue involving government down.

I do expect things to be handled by the right people. And they were, as per the CPS guidelines at that time.

The guidelines have since been rewritten. Because of Kier Starmer, not despite him and certainly not because of Boris Johnson.

You can try to force politics into the CPS, however it's not fitting into this scenario.

If anyone remembers Sister Wendy, an art historian and nun, she was a horror. She went around with Delia Smith. Jeffrey Archer was a pain.

I remember that woman and it doesn't surprise me that she was awful.

For a nun she seemed to have an unhealthy obsession with the texture of pubic hair in paintings . . .

ReneBumsWombats · 09/06/2022 15:11

Zoe Ball was very nice, even though I was shy.

Matt Lucas was far friendlier and more patient with a load of overexcited schoolkids than he had any obligation to be.

Inchail · 09/06/2022 15:21

My DH was recording with his fairly rubbish first band when Bob Geldof came over to have a chat. Apparently he was really lovely; encourgaing but also a bit, 'It's a shit business, isn't it?'

I always feel a bit sad when I see him mentioned on these threads! Perhaps he's okay with other musicians?

Gordon Ramsay I'm not surprised about. Even on his more shouty programmes, a kind person frequently seems to surface.

I have met no one, if you don't count Bernard Hill on the steps of the local Tesco one freezing, windy, sleeting Christmas Eve when we both rolled our eyes to heaven simultaneously at the horror of the weather. My husband met him properly (interviewed him) and says he's a very nice bloke Grin

I didn't like Gordon Ramsey until I saw him on a kids' cookery competition.

He was wonderful with the entrants - really kind, not at all patronising and very encouraging. I changed my opinion of him in a heartbeat.

samthebordercollie · 09/06/2022 15:33

Love this thread, haven't had a lot of experience of celebs but served breakfast to the Proclaimers when I was a student, one was really nice and friendly, the other Mr Grumpy, but I couldn't tell you which one was which
Alex Horne (comedian, Taskmaster) and his extended family came to stay in one of my gites for 2 weeks in August a few years ago, they were great (his dad was lovely) despite the weather being pants
Many years ago Hugh Cornwall used to letch after my brother's girlfriend all the time, even to the extent that he would come into the pub where she and I worked sometimes - she was very beautiful but just 14 at the time

I have never understood the whole "dont make eye contact with me" thing. Its a natural human greeting - you cant tell people where to look FFS. If they are that bothered then maybe THEY should avoid eye contact with others or put a bloody paper bag over their head. Idiots.

To be fair, when actors are about to go on stage they have to concentrate 100%- eye contact can be fatal to that, as stage staff know. And some actors need a fair old time before performing to get into their role, they often need quiet and isolation forthe whole 'half' (Half hour + 5 mins before curtain up) or more to do it. Others, of course, just walk on stage and make the change to 'in character' as they walk through the wings. Others are nearly crippled by stage fright (TV actors doing stage roles in particular) and need very careful handling.😬

Katy’s, was Barbara Windsor’s apparent rudeness during her later years? She was living with dementia for a very long time.

My DH worked with her in a theatre many years ago and said she was a nightmare.

RedxRobin · 09/06/2022 15:49

I've met quite a few via work,
Alan Rickman was lovely
Vivienne Westwood I was quite intimidated by but she turned out to be really nice
Delia Smith & Sister Wendy Beckett came into my work years ago - turns out they were friends. Both were lovely
Claudia Schiffer came to an event at my work years ago - was absolutely stunning & seemed very sweet

My ex was school friends with Phoebe Thomas (who was in Holby City) and Kara Tointon and we would sometimes go to the pub together. It was around the time Kara Tointon was in Eastenders and people would constantly come up to her in the pub to talk to her about Eastenders and she would always be lovely and chat to them. I remember thinking she must have a lot of patience to constantly be so nice to strangers when she was just out for a quiet drink!!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 15:58

Poor taste to joke about it maybe, but MM's response to the flasher was fair enough. Public wanking is grim.

What, to teach them that, if they make a start on their own, a woman will come along and finish them off?!?! Unless she secretly has Swiss Army Hands with hidden flip-out scissors in them?!

JLwac · 09/06/2022 16:08

Jamie Oliver - met him through work. Arrogant plonker. Taller than he looks on the telly though. Hit his head on a door frame on his way out and I must admit we all sniggered, as he'd been such a twat during his visit.

GaiaWise · 09/06/2022 16:10

Miriam M has had the same female partner for 50 years.

I think she just says the sex stories for shock value and laughs, she does make me laugh but sometimes is definitely OTT.

I don't think you can necessarily blame somebody for being a bit grumpy when they've not long woken up. I've not met the Proclaimers, but I wonder if it's a similar principle as with Andy Murray - where people interpret a 'determined' face and 'serious' attitude as being stereotypically 'dour', when they just don't have the most naturally emotionally-expressive face.

Then again, I wasn't there and you were; so Craig or Charlie (but not both) may indeed just be a really grumpypants!

Didn't he once burn his willy whilst barbecuing in the nip? He sounds quite accident-prone!
