To say I love summer but I can't wait for the darker days

I usually love summer but the last few weeks I've found myself wishing for darker days. I wake up in the morning and the sun/ light is beaming in. I might as well be sleeping outside. I want cosy snuggles in my duvet with snow outside. But I also want to feel the sun on my face.

Can you not get blackout curtains or blinds?

MsTSwift · 07/06/2022 07:47

It’s nearly mid summer and barely been warm. 🙄.

3luckystars · 07/06/2022 07:48

or an eye mask

elQuintoConyo · 07/06/2022 07:49

Blackout blinds? Move to a colder place? Like John O'Groats, not Sweden.

We have no light coming in our bedroom and live in Spain! Luckily it's baking hot but not humid, yet. Give it a week or so.

All the windows are open, breeze is flowing through the house, curtains are closed against the heat but still letting the light in.

Enjoy what you have, it'll be autumn/winter again soon enough!

User0610134049 · 07/06/2022 07:50

You clearly just need better curtains/blinds!

Skinnermarink · 07/06/2022 07:56

You’ll need a bloody thick duvet, unless you’ve money to burn cranking your heating up.

it’s 7th June, are you this affected by the wan English sun every year?

Skinnermarink · 07/06/2022 07:57

Also ‘I might as well be sleeping outside’

have you ever slept outside 😂

poorpaws · 07/06/2022 08:02

My DP fitted black out blinds at the weekend just because I'm a light sleeper and the early morning sun (when we have any) wakes me. They've made such a difference! They were from Ikea, (£30 for a 6 ft window), plain off white (they had dark grey too). Great idea and not too expensive.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/06/2022 08:09

You will get your wish soon, only two weeks until the nights start drawing in.

In the meantime get blackout linings for your curtains, cheap from Dunelm and help keep your heating costs down too.

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/06/2022 08:11

@yetanothernamechange90

You are being VERY unreasonable

buy some better curtains

we’ve had an absolutely shit summer so far - cold, grey, raining. Don’t wish the summer away. We have far too many short dark days as it is.

Mirrorball2022 · 07/06/2022 08:13

It’s not even been summer yet. I have SAD, the light mornings wake me up but I much prefer the light days etc.

PinkSyCo · 07/06/2022 08:16

God let us at least have a bit of summer first before you start complaining about it. Buy blackout blinds, or is that too obvious a solution for you?

BeetyAxe · 07/06/2022 08:21

I agree with you, summer is pure hassle. The days are so bloody long and never ending, it’s exhausting.

Yabu. Love the lighter days, you get so much more out of them.

RenegadeMatron · 07/06/2022 08:25

There will be plenty more winters coming your way. It will be here again soon enough.

Why not just enjoy what’s in front of you right now, instead instead of wishing your life away.

userxx · 07/06/2022 08:25

Cosy snuggles in my duvet....... wtf! 🤮

I've found blackout blinds absolutely useless as so much light filters through from the sides and inbetween the slats.

Good curtains with blackout are needed!

Or a black t-shirt over your eyes! I have that as a cheaper option!

Hardbackwriter · 07/06/2022 08:29

Try a sleep mask?

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 07/06/2022 08:31

🤷‍♀️ I’ve got nearly 24 hrs daylight right now and haven’t closed the curtains for months. I love it and everyone has so much energy with these long summer days.

poorpaws · 07/06/2022 08:33

Oops should have said mine is a roller blind so no sunlight between slats.

I would Love that !!

not so much the winter months maybe:)

Swayingpalmtrees · 07/06/2022 08:37

I woke up here to cold and fog, as far as I am concerned the summer hasn't actually even arrived yet!!!!!

Stroopwaffels · 07/06/2022 08:39

The very mention of "cosy snuggles" makes me want to vomit.

This time of year is fabulous, looking to the north from where we are (Scotland) you can still light a light glow in the sky after midnight. In winter, it's dark by 4pm.

bigbluebus · 07/06/2022 08:45

I don't know where you live but where I am (Midlands) Summer definitely hasn't even arrived yet. All the promised sunny days have only given us cloudy days and I can't remember a year when I've only worn sandals once by June!
