And they don't appear to have anyone in the wings who could get the support of the whole parliamentary party, or even most of it.
The key point, I think.
If they had another contender the parliamentary party could unite around, Johnson would no longer be having his shits at 10 Downing Street. They don't, and this lot are too craven to be willing to give him the boot until and unless there's another candidate who is clearly polling better than him (note, them not having a more popular option than him doesn't mean he's popular). Now we get to watch how they all respond to the upcoming byelection losses.
