I'd worry that as despicable as Johnson is, if he went now, that the Tories would manage to rebrand themselves as being the new electable Tories 'not like that Partygate lot' and then we get landed with them for another decade.
With Johnson at the helm they'll never win the next election.

And they don't appear to have anyone in the wings who could get the support of the whole parliamentary party, or even most of it.

Johnson's toast, and possibly the Tories too. I'm delighted, imo it's the best possible result for people who hate Tories.

They may as well hand over to labour now. How can anyone vote confidence in that eel?

So hand over from one buffoon to another - just what we need. Labour won't win a general election with Starmer as leader.

Thank you.

Have a good rest of the evening.

Just waiting on Johnson's statement from Downing Street.

Style over substance?

SpindleInTheWind · 06/06/2022 21:33

That's far too close for comfort.

He's fucked.

His MPs either save the Conservative Party, or save him.

Looks like Simon Hart went to the Abbott school of maths.

When Theresa May got 63% of the MP confidence vote, Rees-Mogg said “it’s a terrible result for the PM & she must resign”
Boris Johnson got 58%

mynamesnotMa · 06/06/2022 21:26

My MP is an utter douche bag he'd vote for him.

He will be gone by Xmas

Such a long time away

Bring on Tiverton and Wakefield. See how much the 211 love him after those results come in. Pack that Gucci Carrie.

Yes, those by-elections will be telling.

23 June.

And they don't appear to have anyone in the wings who could get the support of the whole parliamentary party, or even most of it.

The key point, I think.

If they had another contender the parliamentary party could unite around, Johnson would no longer be having his shits at 10 Downing Street. They don't, and this lot are too craven to be willing to give him the boot until and unless there's another candidate who is clearly polling better than him (note, them not having a more popular option than him doesn't mean he's popular). Now we get to watch how they all respond to the upcoming byelection losses.

Been sent this, seems appropriate

ImpulsiveFlake · 06/06/2022 21:40

I wonder if he might surprise us with a shock resignation. His ego is fragile, he likes to think he's liked. I wonder if this might be the excuse he needs to throw in the towel before further humiliation in the upcoming by elections.

Effitall · 06/06/2022 21:41

It was sarcasm, I’m currently politically homeless as they are all awful.

Or a snap election - BBC interviewer asking him and he's not said NO...

I doubt it. He's not the resigning type and thinks the normal rules don't apply to him.

I think the woman reporter has taken a leaf out of Justine's book...
