To be annoyed she fed us out of date mince?

Just had tea at my friend's. She cooked a pasta bake which was nice, then on the way out (leaving through the kitchen) she picked the mince packet up and laughed. Asked what was funny and she said "oh, this should have been used yesterday!"

I'm a bit annoyed with her, because I've been having stomach troubles (currently being investigated for an ulcer and IBS type symptoms) and as a result I'm pretty careful with what I eat. I'd never use mince past its date either.

Have loads planned for the next few days too so I'm really hoping it doesn't disagree with me!

You'll be fine

monicagellerbing · 04/06/2022 19:35

Mince one day past it's date is absolutely fine, you're being slightly ridiculous

hupfpferd · 04/06/2022 19:35

Oh come on 🥴 I think you'll live

user1494050295 · 04/06/2022 19:35

You will be fine. She cooked the meat.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 04/06/2022 19:35

Mince with yesterday’s date will be absolutely fine. If it was off she'd have spotted it when she opened the pack.

Hugasauras · 04/06/2022 19:36

It's one day.

TolkiensFallow · 04/06/2022 19:36

You’ll be fine

Skinnermarink · 04/06/2022 19:36

If it looked fine and smelt fine it was fine. You do know those dates are a guide right? Sometimes things go off early, often they last longer. There’s no use by date on mince from the butcher shop is there? You’re being precious.

ElspethBoomingHowsen · 04/06/2022 19:36

It will be absolutely fine. If you want to be careful, some eat anything you haven’t made yourself

custardbear · 04/06/2022 19:36

Yea you'll be fine

ZeroFuchsGiven · 04/06/2022 19:37

fgs, get a grip. wth is going on on MN today...

QuestionableMouse · 04/06/2022 19:38

Thanks. Just spent a lot of time already this year feeling crap because of stomach troubles/pain so I'm pretty wary of anything that might set it off again!

Well if you get any tummy troubles as a result it’ll be caused by anxiety, I should think!

rnsaslkih · 04/06/2022 19:39

It's likely that it was fine and you will be fine, but I do think it's rude to serve that up to a guest. OK to do it in your own house, but I wouldn't give it to someone else, especially without informing them first.

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 04/06/2022 19:40

Dates on food products are just a suggestion. Food can go off before/after the suggested date.
If the meat came from a butchers there wouldn’t be a date.
You can tell by looking at it to see if it’s okay to eat. That is of course if the stench doesn’t give it away

nomistake · 04/06/2022 19:41

What do you think happens to food at midnight on it's use by date? It immediately becomes poisonous and mouldy?

1000yellowdaisies · 04/06/2022 19:41

You sound like a massive drama queen, you'll be absolutely fine. Just be grateful your friend cooked you a meal!

earordeals576 · 04/06/2022 19:42

Get a grip

Liorae · 04/06/2022 19:43

Slightly?

But there was nothing wrong with it. It was perfectly good mince. What would you be informing your guests about?

saveforthat · 04/06/2022 19:43

Do you think that food goes off at midnight on the use by date? Really?

Haha I say this to DP all the time, he absolutely refuses to use anything past it's use by as in his opinion it's 'rotten', drives me up the wall because I'm far more relaxed about it. If it looks and smells fine, it's fine.

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 04/06/2022 19:44

Although tbh you should be more annoyed at being served pasta. If anything upsets you chances are it will be that. Surely you have looked at foods which can trigger your stomach?

Cherryblossoms85 · 04/06/2022 19:44

@QuestionableMouse you'll be fine but I feel your pain. Did you get put on omeprazole? I've had a month of it, but it's not worked that well, still seems to bleed. It's mostly citrus fruits, alcohol, coffee, too much fat and really any big meal that are really bad for me.

Wor · 04/06/2022 19:44

YANBU. You don’t feed your guests out of date food, especially meat.

Yuck.
