We stayed in a hotel on Thursday night.
Quite a nice hotel and we booked the most expensive room as a treat ..it was £280 a night.
So we were on the 4th floor
There was a wedding on the top floor (9 th floor)
We could hear the blasting music till 3am.
Not in the background ..every word of every song.
Then arguing in the corridors till 5am.
We got no sleep at all as we had to be up at 8am
Our night and next day totally ruined by being knackered.
Would you complain ?

I'd complain even if it was a Travelodge, I most definitely would at £280 a night!

Yes but I would have complained the same evening and then followed up the next morning. If I hadn't, I'm not sure I'd then complain 2 days later.

IcedOatLatte · 04/06/2022 15:31

I can't imagine a situation where I wouldn't have complained both at the time and on checking out

Was there a reason you didnt doth?

junebirthdaygirl · 04/06/2022 15:32

We complained about this during a stay in a hotel. When we opened our door to peep out to see what all the noise was wedding guests were lying on the corridor outside!!
Hotel profusely apologised no gave us a voucher to come back promising a quieter weekend.
Ask to speak to the manager in charge and hopefully you will be looked after.

Mally100 · 04/06/2022 15:33

The time to complain was while you were up and disturbed.

EBearhug · 04/06/2022 15:37

Yes, and I have complained in such circumstances and got a voucher to use at another time.

LicoricePizza · 04/06/2022 15:44

Of course but curious why you didn’t on checking out?? Most places say at time of booking there’s a wedding so likely noise etc until x time - so you can’t complain after the event & know what to expect. If they didn’t you have every right to request a refund but as you didn’t complain there & then it may be harder to.

GoodThinkingMax · 04/06/2022 15:45

Complain!

Even if it's the next morning.

I can understand why people don't complain immediaelty at the time: you think it might calm down; you don't want to get dressed and go downstairs & get even more wound up; and anyway what would the hotel do? Stop the wedding?

They should refund you you night.

turquisie · 06/06/2022 12:02

Well I sent a email and they said sorry you didn't enjoy your stay ,we would have moved you rooms if you had said (even tho our floor was 5 floors below function room)
All we can offer you now is an apology
Hope to see you again !

I think they're right. You didn't complaint in a time appropriate manner. End of.

Meraas · 06/06/2022 12:46

You need to get angry, OP.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 06/06/2022 12:48

If you didn't complain at the time (why didn't you?) then, no, there's nothing else they can do.

Skyeheather · 06/06/2022 12:50

You should have complained at the time, you should have gone down to reception in your pyjamas and a member of staff would have gone to speak to the offending parties.

If the situation was not resolved to your satisfaction then you get the names of the staff members you spoke to, make a note of the times, what was said and done etc then complain when you get home and you'd have a chance of a refund.

By not complaining at the time you didn't give the hotel a chance to put it right. An apology is all you will get now.

turquisie · 06/06/2022 12:51

Thing is we paid for the most expensive room
So they would have been moving us to a room half the price we paid.
If we had wanted a cheaper room we would have booked it
Plus who would go down to reception at 3am with people arguing outside the room

OP posts:
turquisie · 06/06/2022 12:51

They also couldn't have stopped the wedding
So the DJ would still have been blasting the music

OP posts:
ChickenGotLegs · 06/06/2022 12:57

You don't know what they could have done because you never asked! Think you've left it a bit late now though unfortunately.

SandAndSea · 06/06/2022 13:00

Could you take it up with your cc provider?

WooNoodle · 06/06/2022 13:02

Yes you phone reception to complain though?

WooNoodle · 06/06/2022 13:02

They could have given you a free breakfast or something if you'd let them know

turquisie · 06/06/2022 13:03

@WooNoodle the room only had a direct line to room service -which didn't work
We had went down at 8pm to order room service as the phone didn't even work

OP posts:
Clarinet1 · 06/06/2022 13:03

If you don’t feel you could have gone down to reception perhaps you could have telephoned. Either way I agree that you should have complained at checkout at the latest; Otherwise it’s a bit like going back to restaurant days after eating there and saying you asked for
your steak rare not medium - can you have a refund?

Clarinet1 · 06/06/2022 13:04

Ah cross-posted but the second part still stands!

Well in that case they are bang out of order and you should have complained about that too at checking out time.
