To be fed up of rich people/celebs and private jets

Just read this morning that Harry & Meghan arrived in the UK on the Queen’s private jet. Why can’t they travel on a normal scheduled flight? It’s not like they’d have been wedged into economy class with a toddler on their laps like the rest of us anyway!

I’m just fed up of reading about the rich & famous gallivanting around the planet in their jets (the Beckhams are another example) when the rest of us are made to feel guilty about climate change and our carbon footprint by taking any flights at all - even when it’s one short haul EasyJet/Ryanair return flight a year and we’re packed into economy like sardines. Why one rule for them and another for us?

Not very green is it 🙄

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 02/06/2022 08:45

Do as I say not what I do Hmm

Trainbear · 02/06/2022 08:50

It has always been such that those who can afford it will do it.
"It's not fair that lord Scrotum rides his horse to the market and we peasants have to walk".
Even in communist regimes they had Zil lanes for the Party elite.

People will see and hear and know that Slebs will fly hundreds of miles to.lecture them on the plebs "duties" to give up, whilst others jet off for a 30 min photo opportunity.

emuloc · 02/06/2022 08:50

The Queen wanted them to travel on her private jet, why would they travel on a commercial flight. What is the difference? They are still flying. Is this thread just another one to have a go at H&M? How original.

Confrontayshunme · 02/06/2022 08:50

His mum was essentially murdered by people wanting to get photos of her to sell. I am as green as they come, but even I can see why he wouldn't want to be stuck in first class with two small children unable to leave or get away from crazies. I mean, the daily fail buys photos of Prince George riding his bike while walking the dog. Can you imagine what they would pay for photos of Lilibet?!

BorisJohnsonatemyhampster · 02/06/2022 08:51

OMG do you know how many private jets come and go over the U.K. everyday? Members of the royal family often fly private. But it’s only an issue now H&M have boarded one. FFS what is it with some of you? Bet they can’t wait for the jubilee to end so they can escape this island again. So many bitter people.

LivesinLondon2000 · 02/06/2022 08:57

@BorisJohnsonatemyhampster
not just H&M - I just happened to read about them this morning. I did say rich people/celebs - also thinking of the Clooneys, Beckhams and many, many other examples.

But the opinions here suggest that everyone who’s rich and/or famous should travel by private jet just in case ‘crazy people’ are also on board who might try to take their photo or jeopardise their security in some way (I’m sure they do have bodyguards too btw). But ok fair enough - private jets are justifiable for all the rich and famous then!

I think it's a bit rich flying private after all the preaching they do and seriously hope the bill is not paid by the taxpayers.

dolphinsarentcommon · 02/06/2022 09:03

May as well ask everyone to give up their cars and take the bus.

Those who have, will.

girlmom21 · 02/06/2022 09:18

I'd say it's much safer, in the same vain as the queen having cars full of security around her rather than jumping in a black cab.

Snowflakes1122 · 02/06/2022 09:19

we should not be funding their opulent lifestyles full stop. I am sure the royals won’t be worrying about energy bills this winter.

Do yourself a favour and avoid reading about the rich 'n famous. And focus completely on what you CAN do to improve YOUR own life.

After all, you cannot control what others do with their lives.

CantHaveTooMuchChocolate · 02/06/2022 09:24

I suspect someone living in a third world country who doesn’t have access to a car or public transport thinks the same about you “galavanting” around in your comfortable car or bus, etc. I doubt they’re posting bitter posts on the internet about it though. It’s not a race to the bottom.

Ifailed · 02/06/2022 09:28

There's a heck of a difference between flying two people on a jet compared with 100s in terms of pollution per person.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 02/06/2022 09:33

'T'was ever thus'

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 02/06/2022 09:33

I voted yabu only because of your question at the end: why is it one rule for them and another for us?

Isn't it obvious? They have shit loads of cash and we don't. Twas ever thus.

However I totally agree with you - the people who shout the loudest about climate change and pressure us to be green are often the richest and therefore the greatest carbon guzzlers.

GirlInACountrySong · 02/06/2022 09:37

There's no 'rules'

Usually I'd imagine, it's security issues, much better to be able to protect them via private aircraft.

TaranThePigKeeper · 02/06/2022 09:38

I would suggest that you step away from the Mail and its ilk, stop allowing yourself to be manipulated into irrational hatred for people you don’t know and will never meet, and go and enjoy your long weekend doing something which will make you happy.

Asking why people whose security is at risk don’t travel on public transport makes you sounds foolish and weird. Honestly, stop thinking about this stuff and your life will be so much more fulfilling.

bringonsummer2022 · 02/06/2022 09:39

If I was him I'd take up my gran's offer of a private plane to take my kids to meet her safely. Because, you know, private life and press and all that. They must need a few security people with them too. I suspect it's not Harry and Meghan booking four seats on Virgin Atlantic as the alternative.

youdroppedthis · 02/06/2022 09:40

The solution is not to feel guilty.

Also focus on the fact that those telling us there's a climate emergency don't act like there is one. Why would that be?

Same thing with covid.

Everyone's upset the PM had a party. My question is why was he not scared of this deadly virus he tells us is about?

It's do as I say not as I do. Well I won't be. And I won't be stressing myself over light bulbs while they run superfluous factories either. It's obvious they're lying every time they speak.

It is still flying though. The mode of transport is still the same. Honestly does anyone really expect them to get on a commercial flight? this is the Queen's jet, that she wishes her grandson, his wife and their children to use. Maybe she in her wisdom, knows what she is doing.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/06/2022 09:41

I don't like hypocrisy personally. I take as many flights as I want (not in a private jet 😂), no one has the power to make me feel guilty about it. But I don't then lecture other people about the environment.

This basically. Just do what you want.

Bonjovispjs · 02/06/2022 09:43

Fine if they want to fly on private jets, but if they do, they need to stop lecturing the rest of us about the environment, hypocrites!
