£10 for 6 supermarket eggs!

We're on holiday in Norfolk, and needed some eggs. Stopped at a Shell garage for petrol and asked DH to nip into the Little Waitrose attached for a box of 6. He came out looking shell-shocked, having just spent £10 on a box of crappy supermarket quality eggs! Not lovely local eggs which I might have understood, but 6 of those bog standard Happy Egg Co ones! The idiot didn't get a receipt or I'd be fuming on the Waitrose twitter feed.

He also spent £4 on 2 pints of waitrose semi skim milk.

Is this normal for a Little Waitrose? It wasn't a motorway services, just a local Shell garage. Or has the cost of living crisis hit Norfolk particularly hard????

Husband’s definitely playing a yolk on you. I’d get back to waitrose with all the kings horses and all the kings men and I wouldn’t take Henny Penny less than a full refund. Go tomorrow- it’s fry day.

Ostryga · 12/05/2022 16:41

Total bullshit. I live in Norfolk and there has never been, nor ever will be eggs that are sold for £10.

Your dh is having you on.

notagamer · 12/05/2022 16:41

It has been established the Happy Eggs in little Waitrose at a shell garage in Norfolk (fake ham one) is £2.09!!!

notagamer · 12/05/2022 16:42

Fakenham!!

PinkSyCo · 12/05/2022 16:43

He shelled out a tenner for eggs? How eggstravagant! And another £4 on milk? How dairy?!!

GraceandMolly · 12/05/2022 16:44

It must have been an error.

Loginmystery · 12/05/2022 16:45

GraceandMolly · 12/05/2022 16:44

It must have been an error.

Oh come on, you can do better than that.

Lonelycrab · 12/05/2022 16:45

Maybe the shop was just trying their cluck?

twirleetwo · 12/05/2022 16:45

I know wairtose is expensive, but that's eggscruciating

Lonelycrab · 12/05/2022 16:46

How dairy?!!

👏👏

cleolayne · 12/05/2022 16:46

They charged for ten boxes, no?

Lonelycrab · 12/05/2022 16:48

I hear the coop are better value.

piglet81 · 12/05/2022 16:49

Cracking thread, this.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 12/05/2022 16:49

He definitely ova paid. Nest time, he needs to refuse to pay so much eggstra. Try not to brood over it too much.

AmberGer · 12/05/2022 16:50

They must have been pulling his (L)egg

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 12/05/2022 16:52

Just clucking in for the update from OP when she gets her money back, and for all the eggshell-ent puns 🥚 🐣 🍳 😁

Blinkingbatshit · 12/05/2022 16:52

Your dh has definitely made a mistake somewhere!!….there’s no way anywhere is charging a tenner for eggs (yet!!). It may well have been a cashier/barcode error but your dh should have questioned it without hesitation - what planet does he live on to think that that price was correct?!! I think you have to raise an eyebrow at his ignorance in addition to the shop’s error!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/05/2022 16:54

£10:00 for 6 eggs. They've got to be yolking haven't they. Eggstortionate doesn't even begin to cover it.
You could buy chicken to lay the eggs for you for less than that.

Lonelycrab · 12/05/2022 16:56

Next time you should chick your receipt sooner!

gianaInfertilitySucks · 12/05/2022 16:56

Wow that's just too much!

AmberGer · 12/05/2022 16:58

This is a cracking thread!

notagamer · 12/05/2022 17:01

I bet the DH will be walking on eggshells when the OP tells him she knows actual cost was £2.09

Paq · 12/05/2022 17:02

Eggstremely likely they've laid a mistake. I hope you recoop your money.

Despinetta · 12/05/2022 17:03

How dairy?!!

Bravissima!

gamerchick · 12/05/2022 17:04

Or he's lying and didn't want to admit to the scratch cards.
