£10 for 6 supermarket eggs!

ArtichokeAardvark · 12/05/2022 14:57

We're on holiday in Norfolk, and needed some eggs. Stopped at a Shell garage for petrol and asked DH to nip into the Little Waitrose attached for a box of 6. He came out looking shell-shocked, having just spent £10 on a box of crappy supermarket quality eggs! Not lovely local eggs which I might have understood, but 6 of those bog standard Happy Egg Co ones! The idiot didn't get a receipt or I'd be fuming on the Waitrose twitter feed.

He also spent £4 on 2 pints of waitrose semi skim milk.

Is this normal for a Little Waitrose? It wasn't a motorway services, just a local Shell garage. Or has the cost of living crisis hit Norfolk particularly hard????

OP posts:

TheThreadisMildlyAmusing · 12/05/2022 18:04

Bloody Mumsnet and their new platform ugh

Fixyourself · 12/05/2022 18:06

I bet he was spitting feathers

Wintersgirl · 12/05/2022 18:07

There's a little Waitrose near me, they are more expensive
A: Because it's Waitrose
B: Petrol station shops are more expensive anyway BUT I was in there earlier and 6 eggs cost £2.50, OK they weren't Happy eggs, they were Waitrose own brand, so there is a massive mistake somewhere OP!

Lonelycrab · 12/05/2022 18:08

Were you in a really expensive car and they put the price up because of that?

Or was it a cheep hatch-back?

BrightYellowDaffodil · 12/05/2022 18:10

Cluck me, did he also buy some magic beans while he was in there?

(Although my money’s on a cheeky packet of tobacco and hoping he can sneak it under the “Cor, you wouldn’t BELIEVE this prices round here!” radar.)

Hi everyone! Thanks for contributing to the thread, we are closing it now as there are a lot of posts that break Talkguidelines.

Hi all,

We have re-opened this thread due to popular request, however there are a lot of posts that break guidelines - mainly by way of personal attacks towards OP and her husband and also trollhunting. Let's keep it civil. ;-) ps great puns.

I can see 2 deletions, have some actually gone totally and a few posters quite rightly calling the husband a numpty

Have we gone all netmums? You're going to be busy with the thread closing button if that's where the bar is now 😂

notagamer · 12/05/2022 20:11

2 deletions? And you were going to pull it?

nocoolnamesleft · 12/05/2022 20:12

I wonder whether the cashier deliberately overcharged. Have you considered calling the police? Surely fraudulent sales of milk and eggs should result in tem being in custardy.

HFG37 · 12/05/2022 17:07

To get that so wrong, your DH is clearly not much of a mathemachicken.

This one has killed me

And to think we nearly lost it 🤪

SofiaSoFar · 12/05/2022 20:59

It's bizarre, OP.

If you'd said that he'd come back with change that meant he'd paid £14 for 6 eggs and 2 pints of milk I could understand it - the change would be wrong by £10.

But with the detail of £10 for eggs and £4 for the milk, it can't then be explained by getting the wrong change.

Did he know the eggs were £10 before he handed over the payment?

Baffling!

IllDoItButOnlyForTheAttention · 12/05/2022 21:02

Is this him?!

I would really love to know why my post was delete. What eggsactly did I say that ruffled your feathers? I’m feeling a bit pecked on here. 😞

Loginmystery · 12/05/2022 21:46

I imagine your now legendairy hen pecked husband is hatching a plan to fly the nest. You might soon be free range.

Allthe4s · 12/05/2022 21:47

People just need to lay off the troll hunting. When MN is on form it’s hard to beat threads like this.
