AIBU to think that I have found the cure for nausea?

I've been feeling nauseous all day and even anti-emetics didn't work (Cyclizine).
Had to go to shops and was utterly feeling like shit - feeling faint, weak, even more nauseous.
As I know I couldn't have got anything for nausea from GP today, I had a moment of inspiration while in Lidl. Ginger.
In the 'Food to go' fridge in Lidl, they have these small little tiny cans called Organic Ginger shots. They're 99p each.
I figured I couldn't feel worse, so chanced one. They're quite strong and my tummy was initially going to heave, but I persevered. Within 5 minutes of the first mouthful, I was no longer nauseous!
Btw - I was out last night and drank too much which is why I'm sick. It's nothing contagious.

Might be useful for pregnant women to try.

Pregnancy sickness and hangover sickness are really not the same. With a hangover it's your actual stomach that's the problem so I can see how ginger would help, but with pregnancy it's not your stomach that's the issue.

Mrsteapot42 · 11/05/2022 18:36

Well I don't like ginger, so i would be heaving more at that. 🤮

Nauseous pregnant women already know about ginger and wish it to fuck off.

Mally100 · 11/05/2022 18:38

Sorry to break it to you but ginger is very well known to help with nausea. Ever heard of advising pregnant women to nibble on ginger biscuits. That's the first thing I know anyone would suggest.

Menora · 11/05/2022 18:39

I put on about 3 stone eating ginger biscuits when I was pregnant for this reason!

DogsAndGin · 11/05/2022 18:39

I’m glad you’ve cured your nausea OP! But you’re not the first to discover ginger - it’s been a well known cure for nausea for centuries

Discovereads · 11/05/2022 18:41

It’s why I keep ginger beer in the house.

I'm aware of that, however, this shit works within 5 minutes!

I've tried that and ginger biscuits before. NOTHING stops me feeling sick. Except this shit!
I'm just trying to help. No need to basically tell me to fuck off.

I had HG and everyone suggested ginger. It did not work and 7 years on I can't stand it

excessmess · 11/05/2022 18:43

Glad you're feeling better OP!

Ginger is known to be helpful for nausea...though unfortunately this means it can be seen as a panacea for nausea during pregnancy and is suggested a bit too often as a cure by well-meaning people and midwives.

I had hyperemesis and lost count of the number of people who casually suggested 'have you tried a ginger biscuit, or ginger tea'. I can confirm that I had indeed tried every known thing to end the unrelenting nausea and vomiting. Given that the cocktail of various medications I tried didn't work either, it's unsurprising that ginger did not help either (and is quite unpleasant to vomit too).

Sorry OP, that's not meant to be directed at you at all, but it used to upset me (not as much as the GP who suggested I try those wristbands for car sickness when I begged for help...of course I had already tried them too).

JetTail · 11/05/2022 18:43

It's quite strong this stuff. As in, a little hot when swallowing. For 99p, in Lidl, for a tiny can, I'm pretty sure that it's extremely concentrated.
If this post offends you - ignore it.

I'll keep my mouth shut from now on! Fuck me. Christ almighty but some of ye would fucking argue with your toes.

The OPs tip may be useful to some people.

I found ginger biscuits useful for my (mild) morning sickness - it was partly just eating a bit of something, not just the ginger, I think.

excessmess · 11/05/2022 18:47

Sorry OP, genuinely didn't mean to upset you

ErrolTheDragon · 11/05/2022 18:47

Sickness due to HG is a different beast to that caused by drink, I'm sure. I don't think the OP was proposing this as the cure for a serious medical condition.

Ha ha ha ha ha. Love this.

JetTail · 11/05/2022 18:51

Well, myself and my Ginger shot will fuck off into the fucking sunset and leave ye to fucking with yourselves. Who knew that nausea from pregnancy was different to nausea from alcohol. If it fucking works, go with it.

Thanks for trying to help OP. As an aside “arguing with your toes” is the funniest thing I’ve heard today 😂 so I’m grateful for that.

Antarcticant · 11/05/2022 18:53

I know about ginger for queasiness but hadn't heard of the shots from Lidl so that's very helpful, OP.

Jacopo · 11/05/2022 18:53

“I'll keep my mouth shut from now on! Fuck me. Christ almighty but some of ye would fucking argue with your toes.”

this is a great riposte, I am saving it for future use.
I don’t have any need for ginger, but I like your style OP.

A good deed never goes unpunished!!

thst saying made me laugh! I've never heard it before, is it well known or just 'spur of the moment'??

i might make a trip to lidl to try to get some, I'm fed up of feeling sick, I tend not to feel brilliant anyway but BPPV is really making me feel sick (I'm taking cyclizine for something else & it's not helping with the nausea from BPPV).

Hugasauras · 11/05/2022 18:53

You can get concentrated ginger tablets which I guess do the same thing? I tried them for pregnancy sickness but no dice alas.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/05/2022 18:56

Doesn't do shit for medication induced nausea, either. But hangovers - fine (although I still maintain that nothing is an effective a hangover cure as a bacon roll with ketchup and a bottle of lucosade.
