AIBU to think that I have found the cure for nausea?

I've been feeling nauseous all day and even anti-emetics didn't work (Cyclizine).
Had to go to shops and was utterly feeling like shit - feeling faint, weak, even more nauseous.
As I know I couldn't have got anything for nausea from GP today, I had a moment of inspiration while in Lidl. Ginger.
In the 'Food to go' fridge in Lidl, they have these small little tiny cans called Organic Ginger shots. They're 99p each.
I figured I couldn't feel worse, so chanced one. They're quite strong and my tummy was initially going to heave, but I persevered. Within 5 minutes of the first mouthful, I was no longer nauseous!
Btw - I was out last night and drank too much which is why I'm sick. It's nothing contagious.

Might be useful for pregnant women to try.

Couple of red wines a day, why?

EgonSpengler2020 · 12/05/2022 18:58

I'm glad you have found a readily available solution to your nausea, and hope it will be a handy tip for others in your situation.

However I think you need to stop digging an ever bigger hole with regards to nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP), this is not what you are suffering from and something you should not have even bought into this discussion let alone your OP.

Also anecdotal evidence and scare mongering is extremely unhelpful with regards to cyclizine and NVP. There are already enough barriers to accessing adequate care for NVP, both societally and from HCPs. NICE guidelines are evidence based and clear that cyclizine should be the first line drug in these cases as this is the drug that they have the largest volume of evidence regarding safety in pregnancy, also NICE guidelines emphasize that the best way to manage NVP and HG and limit morbidity and hospital admissions is to start management of it ASAP. Unhelpful scaremongering like yours puts women off asking for help and delays this vital care.

I got queasy from the smell of ginger for years after vomiting it up regularly when pregnant with DC1 in an attempt to manage the morning sickness. It just smells of miserable nausea to me.

Fucking ginger is a load of shit!!!! Thought this was going to be revolutionary.

lancsgirl85 · 12/05/2022 20:10

Can I ask what dose of each of those were you on? Did you have any complications such as hypertension during the pregnancy?

Cyclizine 50mg 3 x a day
Prochlorperazine 5mg 3 x a day
Ondanestron 4mg 3 x a day

I took them at the same time but alternated timings throughout the day.

A few times s in my pregnancy I was hospitalised with HG so severe the I couldn't sip water - at those times I was having cyclizine administered via IV and IM injections of the other two. They worked a treat.

No hypertension. The only complication in my pregnancy was HG.

As I say, my baby was born perfectly healthy.

I have reported this thread, as an experience health professionals and someone who has suffered from HG, I am telling you, that you need to stop.

bellinisurge · 12/05/2022 20:58

Ginger failed completely when I was pregnant.

YouWhatLove · 12/05/2022 21:51

The fact that you dismiss years of clinical research as “research” outs you as an idiot

Hatinafield · 12/05/2022 21:56

You’ve taken several overdoses in your lifetime.
You drink heavily.
You use inappropriate medication to try and get over your hangovers.
You’re wildly reactive in your replies.

Forgive me if I say I’m not sure you should be handing out medical advice on the internet.

IKnewPrufrockBeforeHeGotFamous · 12/05/2022 22:06

And yet despite this experience you’re still ridiculously angry with people telling you ‘ginger doesn’t work and we’re sick of hearing about it’ 🙄

The point I was trying to make is that HG or not, if you're vomiting profusely and nothing works, give this a shot! Or don't! It really is no skin off my nose.

In relation to pregnancy, I can't tell you why I'm warning against it but I've seen what it can do and that is all I am willing to say. I'm sorry that I can't say why. I've read the leaflets and it's safe apparently during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I'm pretty damn sure that it's not but years of 'research' would suggest that it is safe. It's an extremely dangerous drug in my experience but perhaps nothing has yet been attributed to it.

you can’t just say ‘omg cyzlizine is so dangerous but I won’t specify further’ ffs

Tryhard40 · 12/05/2022 22:13

The only thing that ever worked for me was a buttered white toast butty with two soft boiled eggs and loads of salt. I used to eat several a day coz it was the only thing that kept sickness at bay - no wonder I put on 3 stone with each pregnancy!

Indeed. OP you have no business giving medical ‘advice’ because you have no idea what you’re talking about. Reported

Medical advice? About a can of soft drink that can be bought over the counter at Lidl? Give over!

Somethingsnappy · 13/05/2022 12:50

Sorry. Just seen the conversation has moved on since then!

Strangely enough, clinical trials do not generally use high levels of the drug you're experimenting with. You can trial on animals and then you can trial on humans. You will not ever trial large amounts and you will also never trial on pregnant women. It's the equivalent of saying that falling into a small hole and not being significantly injured means that if you fall into a big hole, you will also not be injured.

I was talking about OP’s incorrect claim that cyclizine is dangerous yet refusing to give further details, not the ginger shot

YouWhatLove · 13/05/2022 14:17

@JetTail stop it, you are embarrassing yourself. You clearly know as little about how clinical research works as you know about everything else on this thread. Chill. Some people think the advice of ginger shots is helpful, some find it patronising and irritating. Deal with that and stop giving out medical advice to pregnant women when you clearly do not understand the first thing about it.

shootfromthehip145 · 13/05/2022 14:20

@JetTail My first post on this thread, I have read it all and honestly you are coming across as a little unhinged. May be you need to take a break and stop giving ill advised advice to others.

I'll keep my mouth shut from now on! Fuck me. Christ almighty but some of ye would fucking argue with your toes.

I know this thread has taken a bit of a dark / serious turn but I'm loving "some of ye would fucking argue with your toes" 😂

Squillerman · 13/05/2022 14:29

I tried fresh ginger, ginger biscuits and ginger beer when I was suffering with constant nausea during pregnancy and it didn’t work. The only thing that sort of worked was sucking on mints.
