I've been feeling nauseous all day and even anti-emetics didn't work (Cyclizine).
Had to go to shops and was utterly feeling like shit - feeling faint, weak, even more nauseous.
As I know I couldn't have got anything for nausea from GP today, I had a moment of inspiration while in Lidl. Ginger.
In the 'Food to go' fridge in Lidl, they have these small little tiny cans called Organic Ginger shots. They're 99p each.
I figured I couldn't feel worse, so chanced one. They're quite strong and my tummy was initially going to heave, but I persevered. Within 5 minutes of the first mouthful, I was no longer nauseous!
Btw - I was out last night and drank too much which is why I'm sick. It's nothing contagious.

Might be useful for pregnant women to try.

They sound great, OP, thank you.

I have horrendous travel sickness. I used to buy 'Queezibics' which were a super-charged ginger biscuit specifically for motion sickness.

They worked brilliantly.

They stopped doing them and now only do a dog version, would you believe!

(Which I actually tried to no avail 🤮)

NerrSnerr · 11/05/2022 19:01

It might work for some people with pregnancy sickness. Those of us who had hyperemesis for a long time can be sensitive though because when you've been vomiting numerous times a day for 7-8 months and someone suggests you try a ginger biscuit or sea sickness bands it really does make you want to die. That's not your fault though.

CallMeNutribullet · 11/05/2022 19:10

God I remember having HG and every time someone said "have you tried ginger?" I wanted to vomit all of the ginger I had forced down that day right over them.
10 years on and I can't even look at a Gingerbread man

Well, myself and my Ginger shot will fuck off into the fucking sunset and leave ye to fucking with yourselves. Who knew that nausea from pregnancy was different to nausea from alcohol. If it fucking works, go with it.

The longest hangover I've had is about a day and a half, the relentless nausea I had in pregnancy lasted 8 months, so yes there is a difference, an approximately 7 months 29 and a half day difference in my case! So please do fuck off!

It's handy when I'm dieting to buy gingerbread men/ginger nuts for my DD, that why I'm NEVER tempted to eat one.

I'll keep my mouth shut from now on! Fuck me. Christ almighty but some of ye would fucking argue with your toes.

I'm glad you posted, OP! I will try the ginger shots. I knew ginger was recommended for nausea, but I hadn't heard of these.

TheCanyon · 11/05/2022 19:24

I'm not sure I could handle a ginger shot, but I fair want a ginger nut biscuit now, not had one in years.

My midwife pal reckons the secret to hangovers is a pillow under your back/bum so your stomachs higher than your head. I've never tested this out as it sounds like shite.

stuntbubbles · 11/05/2022 18:37

Nauseous pregnant women already know about ginger and wish it to fuck off.

This! I’m still telling it to fuck off 15 years later 😁

CherryRipe1 · 11/05/2022 19:31

The best cure for hangovers are travel sickness pills. Switches off the nausea signals from the brain.

Snorkellingaround · 11/05/2022 19:32

People suggesting ginger for pregnancy nausea make me see red after two hg pregnancies.

It's not you OP it's an extremely sensitive subject for me even years later!

Maybe if there was more funding for research and support for women with hyperemesis this wouldn't be so triggering.

😂😂😂 very very true

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 11/05/2022 19:44

Well I will thank you for this info cos I suffer horrendous nausea during my time of the month/ ovulation. I also bloody love ginger too!!

Somethingsnappy · 11/05/2022 19:46

Actually very helpful to know that Lidl do concentrated shots! Ginger tea is just too mild to be much help, unless you make it yourself with grated stem ginger etc, which is altogether too much of a faff! So a 'grab it and go' shot of ginger in a can could be really useful.

Also OP, peppermint is great for stomach aches.

Also loving the idea of arguing with one's toes. 😆

ArabeI · 11/05/2022 19:51

I love the ginger shots (with pepper or chilli), either innocent or Pret brand. Those sound like a bargain, OP!

SpecialBreak · 11/05/2022 19:52

dioralyte is the closest I’ve felt I’ve come to a hangover cure… one before bed and one in the morning

ArabeI · 11/05/2022 19:52

Peppermint tea? @Somethingsnappy

HobnobsChoice · 11/05/2022 19:54

Tried ginger shots with my first baby when I had HG. All I can say is if it's strong going down imagine it at speed the wrong way mixed with stomach acid. As I was trying to not vomit on the carpet and make it to the bathroom it also came out of my nose at great force.
With my second baby I would have happily shoved peel ginger root in all the orifices of anyone who suggested it. Same as peppermint tea or vitamin B. At the point you need a drip and your oesophagus is damaged due to puking being told to try ginger is a bit like telling someone with an open fracture to try a plaster

ememem84 · 11/05/2022 19:54

These saved me when pregnant. I was travelling for work and felt sicky on the plane. Air hostess had one and very kindly gave jt to me.

perked me right up on the red eye into London. Like a nausea curing caffeine free power boost.

I used to see those ginger shots in Tesco. I've never tried one although I do love ginger beer.

JaneJeffer · 11/05/2022 20:08

That's one hell of a hangover you've got there @JetTail

JetTail · 11/05/2022 20:12

Well, maybe some of you can come back with the feedback if you're feeling sick and you're desperate enough to try the things.
I am not unaccustomed to nausea. I have gastritis and I was 6 stone at one point as I literally couldn't keep anything down. I'm on Lansoprazole twice a day.
Alcohol still fucks with me though so I'm going to stock up on these nasty little cans!

OP posts:
Hesma · 11/05/2022 20:13

How did you not know this already 🤦‍♀️

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 11/05/2022 20:16

In an actual can though? I love those ginger shots but usually avoid buying them because of the plastic. I could get on board with cans that can be recycled.

ChazzaGirl · 11/05/2022 20:20

I normally have Irn Bru when I’m hungover, which sorts me out. Will try ginger though, as I know it helps settle the stomach.
