AIBU to think that I have found the cure for nausea?

I've been feeling nauseous all day and even anti-emetics didn't work (Cyclizine).
Had to go to shops and was utterly feeling like shit - feeling faint, weak, even more nauseous.
As I know I couldn't have got anything for nausea from GP today, I had a moment of inspiration while in Lidl. Ginger.
In the 'Food to go' fridge in Lidl, they have these small little tiny cans called Organic Ginger shots. They're 99p each.
I figured I couldn't feel worse, so chanced one. They're quite strong and my tummy was initially going to heave, but I persevered. Within 5 minutes of the first mouthful, I was no longer nauseous!
Btw - I was out last night and drank too much which is why I'm sick. It's nothing contagious.

Might be useful for pregnant women to try.

Can i give you a little advice? don't say this to anyone suffering from pregnancy sickness in RL or you will get your lights punched out

Peppermint tea? @Somethingsnappy

Tea can be quite good, but it's not particularly strong. A drop or two of peppermint oil in water can be good. Or even a sweet that has actual peppermint oil in it. Fennel tea also is good for digestive issues.

This is it. It's in the Food to go section where you can pick up sandwiches etc.

Oh believe me, I have spent years being advised on what would cure my nausea and vomiting and NOTHING FUCKING WORKS. This shit did.
I'm well aware that ginger is recommended for morning sickness.

I’m going to try this, thank you OP!

Doofas · 11/05/2022 20:51

Thanks OP, I use ginger a lot for nausea thanks to cancer meds, but hadn't heard of these shots, I'll look out for them as I like my ginger things fiery, I find the hotter it is, the better it works, and I like it fiery.

I was desperate but was willing to try it as I was going to spew. Look, if it's useful to someone, fair enough. If not, fine. I did not believe that it would work at all.

Chocolate cake, by the bucketload, helped my pregnancy nausea. And unsurprisingly there were some side effects - weight gain, gas, weight gain. Grin

i assume you don’t get that with ginger shots!

As a sceptic of any recommendation that doesn't involve serious drugs, it might just work! I'm increasingly trying to move away from drugs for various things. I hope it works. Nausea and vomiting is hell.

Ginger makes me hurl anyway. Anyway if your body needs you to vomit; better to vomit than keep the toxins in your system? 🙄

ArabeI · 11/05/2022 21:00

Thanks @Somethingsnappy

I'd have tried anything in pregnancy. I even tried some lollipops, pregnancy pops I think they were called.

Happierthanever91 · 11/05/2022 21:00

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and projectile vomited all over my bathroom today so this is excellent advice. Thank you! I'm not the biggest fan of ginger but will gladly pinch my nose and down it if it'll help

ArabeI · 11/05/2022 21:00

Why doesn't the spacing work! That wasn't supposed to be one paragraph.

chisanunian · 11/05/2022 21:01

I haven't been anywhere near a ginger biscuit for 23 years!😂

YouWhatLove · 11/05/2022 21:02

The only thing that ever helps my medication induced nausea is eating ice or very cold sparkling water. Every time someone suggests ginger it makes me want to set the world on fire. I know you mean well, op, but you can’t blame people for getting pissed off if they’ve suffered from chronic nausea for years and someone who has a bit of a hangover thinks they’ve cured it by “discovering” the very first thing that is recommended for anyone ever suffering from nausea.

I remember my aunt going into a hospice for end of life card for breast cancer. She chased a vicar out of her room for suggesting turmeric because she thought that one of the few good things about going into a hospice is that “fuckers would stop telling me that a pissing turmeric supplement would cure my terminal illness”

Maybebabyno2 · 11/05/2022 21:05

Marmite, when I was pregnant, this really helped my nausea. Same with a hangover, it's great!

CherryRipe1 · 11/05/2022 21:08

Those wrist bands were the only thing that worked for me during pregnancy. If I took them off I was "up-chuck city" immediately.

GarlicGnocchi · 11/05/2022 21:09

Alcohol still fucks with me though so I'm going to stock up on these nasty little cans! or maybe just don't drink/drink as much if it's going to make you ill?

JetTail · 11/05/2022 21:14

The point is though, that I am no stranger to nausea. I'm prescribed both cyclizine and ondansetron to take when feeling sick as well as being on Lansoprazole twice a day. I spent almost a year in bed, just vomiting. Soup was about all I could keep down. I was like a skeleton. So believe me, I know the hell of nausea and vomiting. I'm an utter sceptic. I'm like 'GIVE ME THE FUCKING DRUGS DOC!!!' Fuck off with your herbal shite. This worked today.
Yeah, so I actually couldn't believe it.
If it upsets you, don't try it! No skin off my nose.

Such wise advice.

Thanks, it will save you a fortune too. And you won't have to drink manky ginger.

SingingSands · 11/05/2022 21:19

I was dying with a hangover last weekend- this would have helped!

Might nip in and stock up in advance of this weekend Wink

DoctorMartin · 11/05/2022 21:20

You need strong raw ginger to help with nausea - not ginger biscuits. Sucking on a piece of raw root ginger does the trick, but I bet the shots are pretty good too OP.

Crimesean · 11/05/2022 21:23

Sounds like it might be worth a go! I have a delicate stomach since suffering with HG during pregnancy, it'd be good to find a cure for when I'm feeling travel sick etc.

However - a word of caution for pregnant women considering trying strong ginger: if you do throw it back up, it will burn the fuck out of your sinuses. Bitter experience talking here.
