AIBU to think that I have found the cure for nausea?

I've been feeling nauseous all day and even anti-emetics didn't work (Cyclizine).
Had to go to shops and was utterly feeling like shit - feeling faint, weak, even more nauseous.
As I know I couldn't have got anything for nausea from GP today, I had a moment of inspiration while in Lidl. Ginger.
In the 'Food to go' fridge in Lidl, they have these small little tiny cans called Organic Ginger shots. They're 99p each.
I figured I couldn't feel worse, so chanced one. They're quite strong and my tummy was initially going to heave, but I persevered. Within 5 minutes of the first mouthful, I was no longer nauseous!
Btw - I was out last night and drank too much which is why I'm sick. It's nothing contagious.

Might be useful for pregnant women to try.

I tried ginger biscuits and ginger tea when I first got morning sickness and they did naff all, my husband got me one of those shots from pret and it was amazing! It really did help me through the worst few weeks of nausea, he started juicing ginger and adding it to apple juice so I could have a constant supply as those shots weren't cheap!

I'll keep my mouth shut from now on! Fuck me. Christ almighty but some of ye would fucking argue with your toes.

Love this!
Mumsnetters all - argue with your toes 😆

OP. It's good stuff. Also for warding off colds plus the turmeric one. I've mixed them together as an unholy but healthy brew sometimes.

In an actual can though? I love those ginger shots but usually avoid buying them because of the plastic. I could get on board with cans that can be recycled.

The shot bottles are really useful as mini travel bottles so I reuse them and justify it that way...

Haha. I agree OP!

You do get them on here 🙄.

Obviously you weren't suggested you'd discovered ginger as a cure, you found concentrated ginger shots and we're saying they'd helped!

I'm ttc #2 and with #1 I would have tried anything and tbf my sickness wasn't THAT bad in the grand scheme, but it was still fucking grim. So I appreciate your advice.

SatsumaLover · 11/05/2022 23:52

Always made me laugh how even drs would recommend ginger biscuits to me when I had HG !!! I mean when would that ever be an acceptable treatment for something related to reproduction…..

’Sorry Mr Smith - no viagra for you have your tried ginger biscuits? ‘

‘oh , premature ejaculation …. Perhaps you could try some ginger tea or ginger beer ‘

SatsumaLover · 11/05/2022 23:54

Although who knows maybe ginger works for regular nausea but def not for pregnancy related sickness I imagine nausea related to a stomach bug Wouldn’t react well to ginger either

KitKattaktik · 11/05/2022 20:59

Ginger makes me hurl anyway. Anyway if your body needs you to vomit; better to vomit than keep the toxins in your system? 🙄

It's not always toxins though. I get bad nausea from a medication I have to take so nothing to vomit up because I've injected it
Just feel sick for 24hrs after

JetTail · 12/05/2022 12:25

And btw, if any of you are ever pregnant and prescribed cyclizine, my advice would be to NOT even consider it. I can't tell you why I'm advising it. I didn't know that it was prescribed to pregnant women for morning sickness until a couple of weeks ago when my downstairs neighbour told me that that is what is prescribed. I have kept that little bit of advice to myself as she has been taking it for months now and it would be useless advice now and only worry her. Just take it from me. Please don't take it during pregnancy.

JetTail · 12/05/2022 12:29

I will say though that the urge to hurl after the first mouthful of the ginger shot thing was strong! I managed two mouthfuls and within 5 minutes, the nausea had completely gone! I had taken cyclizine earlier and it hadn't helped in the slightest. I was totally surprised as it was a very last ditch desperate attempt.
And to the poster who asked whether it's a can or a bottle. It's a small tin can and it's usually on the top shelf of the 'Food to Go' shelf in Lidl.

I never go anywhere without XS mints. 10000x better than ginger, imo.

Nauseous pregnant women already know about ginger and wish it to fuck off.

OMG, this!! If anyone else told me to "try ginger" when I was really suffering, I would have rammed it up their arse in all honesty!!

anotherbrewplease · 12/05/2022 12:52

Is it safe for dogs? Our dog gets terrible travel sickness…

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/05/2022 12:53

I wonder if it would help with post op nausea. I'm terrible for that.

Mally100 · 11/05/2022 18:38

Sorry to break it to you but ginger is very well known to help with nausea. Ever heard of advising pregnant women to nibble on ginger biscuits. That's the first thing I know anyone would suggest.

Yes,it's a well known cure, I should've been sponsored by lemon and ginger tea when I was pregnant as I drank so much!

MiniatureHotdog · 12/05/2022 13:00

See OP I don't see why you're getting defensive about the replies. Fine to suggest the ginger shots for general nausea, but to suggest maybe pregnant women should try it is just silly. It's a very well known over offered cure that is useless in the face of severe pregnancy sickness.

Many pregnant women who suffered nausea were sick to the back teeth with well meaning people suggesting ginger. No one has been rude, just pointed out how clueless you're being 😂

I wanted to slap a (well meaning I'm sure) nurse who said "have you tried ginger" with a sympathetic headtilt when I explained I hadn't eaten for several days and was struggling to hold down fluids. My lips were peeling and I threw up twice during the consultation. Yes, ginger, that'll sort it silly woman😂

Cmon OP, you can't say that and not tell us why. I've taken cyclizine throughout 3 pregnancies with no ill effects.

Ginger is a well known aid to stop nausea. I remember my grandma giving it to us children back in the 60's as a cure.

I had HG and everyone suggested ginger. It did not work and 7 years on I can't stand it

Same here!!!

HiCandles · 12/05/2022 13:26

Cyclizine is perfectly safe in pregnancy. Don't scare monger OP, unless you're about to share some ground breaking research you've done that reveals a serious problem. Unlikely as it has been prescribed for pregnant women for years with no effects on fetus and helps a lot of women. Me included, first trimester N&V was massively helped by it.

Why not? It's a very common first line treatment for pregnancy sickness.

I took this for my entire pregnancy along with a cocktail of ondanestron and prochlorperazine due to severe HG.

My baby is a perfectly healthy 1 year old now. Confused

FastFood · 12/05/2022 13:39

Well I didn't know that ginger could help with nausea so thanks OP, and I hope your hangover is getting better now!

JetTail · 12/05/2022 15:20

The point I was trying to make is that HG or not, if you're vomiting profusely and nothing works, give this a shot! Or don't! It really is no skin off my nose.

In relation to pregnancy, I can't tell you why I'm warning against it but I've seen what it can do and that is all I am willing to say. I'm sorry that I can't say why. I've read the leaflets and it's safe apparently during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I'm pretty damn sure that it's not but years of 'research' would suggest that it is safe. It's an extremely dangerous drug in my experience but perhaps nothing has yet been attributed to it.

Can I ask what dose of each of those were you on? Did you have any complications such as hypertension during the pregnancy?

OP posts:
JetTail · 12/05/2022 15:25

And to further clarify, I have also tried gingernut biscuits during the hellish 9 months prior to being put on Lansoprazole so I totally get the frustration of something being recommended which absolutely does not work.

Cyclizine and Ondansetron are prescribed for all sorts of nausea. The cause is not necessarily relevant so I'm amused that you all think that pregnancy nausea is different.

How much alcohol would you say is safe during pregnancy?
