To think 8.30am is an acceptable time for a child to play in the garden?

The tiny terrorist is on one this morning and I said to my partner it's fine we can get him out in garden in 20 mins or so to burn off the excess energy. He looked at me like I had two heads and told me anything before 10 or 10.30 on a weekend was unacceptable and would make us those neighbours. For context we have 2 attached neighbours both with babies or young children themselves and ours is only a toddler so plays relatively quietly (obviously not silently though). So aibu, am I accidentally the neighbour from hell?

Why is it so unacceptable for a child to play in their own garden at that time?
Those with dogs probably let them out for the loo before that time, and obviously they could bark etc.

My kids can go out in the garden from 7am weekend and week. They are 6 and 7. They have a trampoline, ninja line and swing. They burn up energy before they go to school or start weekend activities.

Jesus I would lose my mind listening to that 7 days a week.

PrettyMaybug · 08/05/2022 18:37

YABVVVU. 10am on the weekend at the earliest. I don't wanna be woken up at 8.30am on a Saturday, (or Sunday,) by your screeching, hollering kids! Hmm

And kids ARE bloody screechy and loud!

Billyvoo · 08/05/2022 18:38

It depends on your neighbourhood. There are a lot of retired people on our street. Everyone is up early mowing the grass; 8.30 would be fine here. Late at night noise would be more of an issue.

Romney981 · 08/05/2022 18:38

I think it totally depends on your neighbours. I'm 60 - kids all grown up but I would not mind at all hearing a child playing in the garden. Just ask your neighbours what they think.

miltonj · 08/05/2022 18:38

Considering your neighbours are also young families, I'd say it's absolutely fine! They're hardly gunna still be in bed.

Jamdaisy · 08/05/2022 18:38

My rule was 9am on a sat, 10 on a Sunday (like a few others)

when Ds woke early (5am regularly) I used to take him swimming as the baths are open mega early. It would wear him out a bit and we would be coming home at a time when it was a bit more socially acceptable. I was often there 6am with him - sometimes they would open the soft play bit for us too. I clearly looked desperate! Haha!

HalloHello · 08/05/2022 18:40

Oh dear my husband was out mowing the grass at 9.50 this morning, hope we aren't hated!

I would usually say 9am for weekends though.

I REALLY hope your neighbours have loud, wild parties, two or three nights a week, from 10 at night til 3 in the morning when you and your kids are trying to sleep.

Almost ten o clock in the morning, is not 8.30 in the morning is it? Confused

Silversurfer101 · 08/05/2022 18:42

I would say not before 10 to be on the safe (and considerate side) :-)

Not before nine. Being kind not before ten. Although if yours plays with noisy toys or scream sings better outside than in!

lioncitygirl · 08/05/2022 18:46

My neighbours are in their garden from 7am - every single day 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hankunamatata · 08/05/2022 18:46

Sunday, no way 10am. Mon to Thursday 9am.

lioncitygirl · 08/05/2022 18:46
  • with their kids
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 08/05/2022 18:47

I think I used to try for 9 at the weekends when they were little. A toddler outside at 8.30 wouldn't bother me though.

We still have a no arguing with each other outside or screaming rule though whatever the time of day

If my neighbours children were out every day at 7 on the trampoline , so be it but if they were noisy and waking me up I'd have no problem having a late night party on a weekend. Goes both ways after all 🤷‍♀️

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/05/2022 18:47

I think 9 ish is fine. Although I don’t get the issue really as if I want to sleep in I’d stick ear plugs in (ie if I was the neighbours)

Was your DH expecting you to do all the entertaining in the meantime?

@Jamdaisy Quoted you instead of someone else sorry!

AnotherAnxiousMess · 08/05/2022 18:55

Since having kids, I’m up at 6am every morning anyway, so I wouldn’t care. It bothers me more when people are still outside making noise past 9pm though.

Babyroobs · 08/05/2022 18:59

violetbunny · 07/05/2022 08:10

If you were my neighbour I'd be sticking pins into a miniature sized doll of you.

Me too !

Jjones8 · 08/05/2022 19:00

Honestly I’d say 8am onwards is acceptable…. Builders are allowed to make noise from 8am Monday to Saturday.

Liesovertheocean · 08/05/2022 19:01

I think 8.30 is absolutely fine.
