Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

I love the idea of substituting alcohol for water. In fact I might start this in [looks at glass of prosecco] .. 5 minutes time.

A few weeks ago I started putting a salad on my plate and the Dcs plate at every evenng meal. So we would have something like chicken with creamy mushroom sauce, sauteed potatos and a side salad. or Bolognese and a side salad. Or chicken soup and a starter of a salad. Last night we had chicken burgers and a salad (no wedges or fries). The result has been that the Dcs are now eating a complete salad every day (they moaned mightily at the beginning) and I am boosting the veg quotient for each day. I'm loving it and certainly feel healthier. DS1 does not eat any greens whatsoever but since we began this he went from tolerating iceberg lettuce to actually asking for the spinach and watercress baby salad leaves and even eating the lot.

Eating 2 meals a day, 2pm and about 7pm has had a really beneficial effect. I have had no alcohol since a glass of wine on 26 December. Can't do without food though and kefir, kimchi and sauerkraut etc have been fabulous.

Yoga, and really reducing my sugar intake. Have recently booked to go to a yoga retreat in the autumn, which is a first for me. Like a pp, I try to do it most days at home. I do a class once a week.

@Roxy69 can I ask if you have lost weight doing this (indeed if this is what you wanted).

I am thinking of doing the same, but eating at noon and at 6 pm. I find 3 meals just too much but am 2 stone overweight so want something easy to maintain.

spaghettimaretti · 04/07/2023 09:30

I stopped staying up so late.

Less alcohol.

Intermittent fasting.

Yoga most days.

Walking 6-7 km most days.

I invested in some good products and have a skin / teeth care routine that I follow religiously.

After decades of washing my hair daily, I now wash it twice a week max. Huge difference in condition and thickness.

Outdoor swimming as often as I can, usually once a week.

A few years back now but getting divorced was the best!

I think most of the responses on this thread are about the need in invest in ourselves and look after our bodies, minds and spirits in order to flourish.

Sorry to butt in…I have done 5/2 on and off for years but am switching to eating at 12.30 and 6.30 pm most days.

Apparently 14/10 is the “ best” in terms of the results v likelihood of sticking to it.

5/2 makes you lose weight but it’s hard going sometimes.

Good luck in finding the right pattern for you.

Thanks @spaghettimaretti Smile

I do this, too, as breakfast just doesn't agree with me (though have just listened to Michael Moseley - 'Just One Thing' from the Hay festival - where he interviewed Tim Spector. Tim Spector has a sugar spike eating muesli so eats non sugary stuff and is better for it). I have peppermint tea in the morning, coffee mid morning, lunch is GF bread (coeliac) or rice crackers and cheese, olives and tomatoes, and a cooked dinner at about 6. I can't exercise because of Long Covid so am trying not to put on weight. Am currently nearly 55kilos and 5ft 3inches.

Oh. Forgot. I have a glass of wine each evening 😌

Lovetotravel123 · 04/07/2023 12:16

Giving up alcohol (even though I did ‘need’ to).

Yogachick · 04/07/2023 12:18

@spaghettimaretti do you have long hair? Wondering on the washing hair less. Do you do your own yoga practice or follow someone with your home practice? Consistency is where I fail with everything but I keep trying!

I have mid length hair but it works great with long hair too. Naturally fine and lifeless but much better now. I did it accidentally for a few months and really liked the result.

I do one proper taught yoga class per week in a studio, quite a full on vinyasa class. Trying to fit in a second, though it may need to be by zoom. I also use downdogapp.com most days for 20-45 mins. Keeps me stretched out in between classes and I think I get more out of the class as a result.

I struggle with consistency too! I try to change in small ways, less intimidating!

jeaux90 · 04/07/2023 12:55

Only drinking tea/coffee first thing then water the rest of the day. Big difference to skin and tiredness levels.

HRT - game changer.

Fast until lunchtime everyday.

Yogachick · 04/07/2023 13:05

@spaghettimaretti i love vinyasa but keep in my safe FWFG app zone . I’ve tried Charlie Follows on YouTube last couple of days, definitely a step in a different direction from my usual. I’m working up the courage to go to an in person class. I feel I will be the fat not very good old lady there😔

Ballet Based Movement. An online class I started in the first lockdown and have done nearly every day for over 2 years. I am in my 60s and have never done ballet before but I am now completely toned have a better posture and my back problems have disappeared.

Can I ask you what one you do? I've sprays fancied this!

Don’t be discouraged! In my classes there are all shapes, sizes and ages. A good studio will help you to choose the right class for you. My best ever practice was when I ended up beside a yoga teacher… I was horrified at how I would compare to her and it forced me to focus on my own practice and not be distracted by others. Good luck!
