Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

I thought you needed a prescription for melatonin? I didn’t know you could just buy it! I’m going to order some. I’m fed up with not being able to get to sleep.

It is not legal to sell Melatonin over the counter in the UK- you need a prescription.
However it is legal to order it from abroad you can still acquire and use it happily with no legal ramifications.

msssm · 07/05/2022 01:41

Thank you for the melatonin recommendations.

Billandben444 · 07/05/2022 05:53

I'm 70 in a few weeks but started the supplements a couple of years ago. Be patient but one morning you'll wake up and think - I feel good!

Billandben444 · 07/05/2022 05:55

The above is in response to the poster asking about joint supplements - sorry, silly new quoting fail!

Chewchewaboogiw · 06/05/2022 13:00

Billandben444 which joint pain product do you use please?

I take a bog-standard cod liver oil from Sainsbury's - 180 capsules. You need to persevere but I wouldn't miss a day now.

Moonface123 · 07/05/2022 06:00

Give myself permission to rest and relax.

PierresPotato · 07/05/2022 11:49

That's a very important thing Moonface.

Lululoveslife · 07/05/2022 11:56

Quitting alcohol. It is nothing but poison and you will never be truly healthy if you still drink, even if it’s just one glass of wine a week. In my opinion!

It's surprising how many people struggle with this. Not sure if they realise it themselves or just dont verbalise but there are a lot of people that cannot be still.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/05/2022 21:04

@hermana oh goodness yes! I work full time and have 3dc, on Saturday mornings I generally do nothing more than drink coffee and watch Fb videos. Giving myself permission to do something mindless was so liberating. My mum is constantly cleaning or tidying and never stops and I’ve always felt guilty for doing nothing but finally gave myself permission to be lazy sometimes.

Imissmoominmama · 11/05/2022 21:08

Walking. I now walk about 50 miles in a normal week; more sometimes. It helps me both mentally and physically.

Daisychainsandglitter · 11/05/2022 21:26

Walking- I try to do at least 15,000 steps a day. I started a year ago and was almost sedentary. I've lost weight, I'm loads fitter, it really boosts my mood and gives me the space to be on my own and have some thinking time.

Fainting at work? Have you had your blood sugar checked?

Going without breakfast means 16-18
hours without food! I couldn’t do it either.

Skipping or having a lighter meal as you get older is an idea though, I’d probably do breakfast then a big meal around 2/3pm, and a light supper.

WakeWaterWalk · 19/05/2022 11:36

I thought I couldn't do a long time gap either but now I eat fewer carbs it turns out that I can.

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 19/05/2022 12:26

I’m not having breakfast at the moment as I’m rather alarmed at some sudden weight gain. I eat my breakfast at lunchtime and then normal dinner (but no pudding). It avoids me ‘just’ adding some crisps or some biscuits to my lunch as well.

the first couple of days I felt very hungry but it’s ok now. In fact I have a smaller appetite for dinner too. I don’t have a physical job though.

Also in terms of good habits - never say ‘just’. If you ‘just’ do something before you leave, you’ll be late. If you ‘just’ have a couple of biscuits every afternoon and ‘just’ have a packet of crisps because you’re hungry, you’ll suddenly find you’ve put on half a stone (combined with being ‘just’ menopausal…).

16:8 is a perfectly normal way to eat. It’s what most intermittent fasters do.

Minamina · 21/06/2022 15:36

This was so needed and very motivating! Thank you all for these great replies!

Daisychainsandglitter · 23/06/2022 23:08

Walking. I average 17k steps a day and I love it!

I can do 16:8 but really prefer breakfast and skip dinner - I understand the need for breakfast and am definitely a morning person so weight the intake more to the start of the day

Usernamerequired · 12/07/2022 04:29

More water less to no fizzy drinks. Losing weight because of less gas and food cravings

cherrytree63 · 13/07/2022 06:57

Those of you taking melatonin , which one do you use? My GP refused to prescribe it for me, gave me Zopiclone instead which wiped me out.
My weight has been creeping up unnoticed thanks to hiding my flab under stretchy clothes. Had a bit of a shock when I dug my lightweight trousers out for this heatwave and couldn't get them over my thighs so that's been my motivation to get back onto low carb and HIIT this week.
Habits I've got into and maintained the last 6 weeks are good skin care routine twice a day and using a whitening tooth paste to tackle stains from years of tea drinking.

Youdoyoutoday · 15/07/2022 12:25

@cherrytree63 i got mine from pipingrock.com

Appalonia · 15/07/2022 17:20

Doing low carb
only eating 2 meals a day
taking B vitamins, feel like it's helped my depression/energy
doing a Zumba class regularly, it's an exercise I actually enjoy.
oil painting, has helped with stress and given me a creative outlet.

Appalonia · 15/07/2022 17:25

Also, getting a monthly massage, really helps with my chronic back pain.

cherrytree63 · 15/07/2022 19:54

Thanks @Youdoyoutoday , which strength/ type do you use?
