Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

Daily 20-minute HIIT workouts. I am much more toned and feel much more energised!

Using The Ordinary Buffet. My skin is soft and glowing and my dynamic lines are much softer.

What are dynamic lines?

Great Post @C1239 - thank you.

Can anyone recommend the following please:
A short, free yoga practice for knackered hips/knees & back
An introduction to meditation course (preferably free)
A decent turmeric supplement for the joints

Thanks 😊

Try an app called Insight Timer for the meditation - I’ve not tried it myself but a friend loves it

The biggest 2 for me are: HRT, the full works including testosterone; lifting weights, heavy weights as heavy as I can lift. These 2 things make me want to roar.

I have quit alcohol for about 3 years now. Have the occasional tipple (once everythree months ISH)
It used to make me feel so depressed, even though I never drank on a regular basis anyway.

C1239 · 05/05/2022 20:18

How do you motivate yourself to make a change? Sounds silly but I just feel a bit lacking in motivation at the moment.

Team Sports - sometimes you're just chasing the 'ball' and don't actually realize you're 'running' too. Because you're not just 'running' for 'running's' sake. It's served me very well for decades now.

Do you want to change? If so which aspects? If you focus on things that increase your energy then that will have an impact on your motivation.
So look at your sleep health and alcohol consumption to begin with.
Don't try to attempt too many changes in one go- it is better to have success with one goal, trying too much all at once and you are less likely to meet your targets.
So trying to lose weight/get more sleep/ exercise regularly/stop smoking/meditate/eat better/drink more water/start a skin care regime all at once is unrealistic.
Introduce one new challenge at a time, once that becomes a habit then start on an other area.
Better to start an exercise programme of once or twice a week rather than aiming for 6 sessions. Your goal is more likley to be met and you will be motivated by your success.

It's finding something that works you isn't it- and everyone is different. Personally team sports don't appeal, neither does swimming or running- in fact anything outdoors. I do exercise most days, but I am a great believer of the idea that as long as you are moving then that's great. Yoga works for me.

Very inspiring thank you everyone. I’m trying to improve my fitness from a very low level and am in my Kate 60s can anyone recommend an app that records steps and allows you to set goals and hopefully includes other exercises you can do at home. Oh and that’s free! Thanks all you are very encouraging

Active 10 is a good app, @Thistooshallpsss - it just encourages you to get out for a quick 29 min brisk walk. Tells you how many minutes you do each day, of normal walking and brisk walking. No equipment needed, no cost!

Thistooshallpsss · 05/05/2022 23:52

Thanks for that suggestion 3leafclover I’ll give it a try

Getting 8h sleep a night.
started by taking melatonin to get me into a routine. Turned down all lights for 2h before bed. No screen, no phones. Read a real book. Turned off light when I was tired and would go to sleep. After a few weeks stopped tbe melatonin and I’m now tired at the right time, asleep on time, don’t miss tv and getting 7.5-8h a night.
EVERYTHING is better. I have lost weight, I have clearer head, I’m more productive, I have more energy, my skin is better…. Best change!

This is what I need to do. Glad it's working for you. Can you tell me pls where you get your melatonin?

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 06/05/2022 06:14

One that I don't thinks been mentioned on here. Get some daylight in the morning. Ideally 30 mins first thing. Amazing for sleep & mood.
I've learnt so many health habits from The Huberman Podcast( Harvard Neuroscientist)

coffeeschmoffee · 06/05/2022 08:07

I get mine online from Biovea

jeaux90 · 06/05/2022 08:51

Kettlebells. I'm 50 always been sporty but couldn't work out why my body was getting fatter.

HRT and kettlebells has been a game changer.

I still swim because I love it and it's like meditating for me.

fufulina · 29/04/2022 20:54

Don’t eat breakfast. After 40 two meals a day is all you need.

Maybe that's all you need but I'd be fainting at work if I didn't eat breakfast.

Fainting at work? Have you had your blood sugar checked?

speakout · 06/05/2022 09:05

I think 2 meals a day is quite a good idea.
I generally don't eat first thing, I go to the gym then will have a healthy brunch at 11 or so- that lasts me till my evening meal a 6pm. I eat fruit if I am peckish.
I don't seem to need the same number of calories I did when I was younger, despite exercising most days.

PurpleDaisies · 06/05/2022 09:11

I’m the same as @hangrylady
Breakfast is important to me. We’re all different and it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you.

I usually eat lunch around 2pm. So if I get up at 7pm and don't have breakfast, that's 7 hours without any food. I don't need my blood sugar checked, I'm just a human being who needs sustenance not a competitive under eater. HTH

I eat when I’m hungry. That’s rarely before 2pm so I naturally do 16:8 on normal days without any hunger or feeling faint.

Everyone's different at guess, I couldn't do that without feeling like shit. I hate breakfast but force myself because by 10am I'd be chewing my arm off!

Chewchewaboogiw · 06/05/2022 13:00

Billandben444 which joint pain product do you use please?

hangrylady · 06/05/2022 13:18

In answer to the OP, pilates has helped with my general old lady aches and pains and I'm planning on cutting down on booze and getting back into Kettlebells but need to get some motivation first, I'm an exercise dodger!

I thought you needed a prescription for melatonin? I didn’t know you could just buy it! I’m going to order some. I’m fed up with not being able to get to sleep.
