Looking for some inspiration - what is a good/healthy habit you started and noticed and improvement in how you felt from it?

OP posts:

Cutting out processed food.

Northernsoullover · 29/04/2022 20:26

Quit alcohol.

Cutting out carbs and drinking heaps more water. Helps keep my weight down and improved my skin. I was getting really big sore spots under the skin which wouldn’t come to a head and then left marks for weeks. Now if I do get an occasional spot it pops and is gone in a day or two!

ImTheFuckOffCar · 29/04/2022 20:34

I’ll add weights to the responses.
During lockdown I brought some secondhand ones off FB marketplace. I sit in front of the telly each evening with them and just lift them in my arms 😆That’s it. The difference it has made! Ok I do an hour each evening and I’ve moved up from 1lb to 2.5kg over time but my arms look so toned even if I do say so myself.
Even my stomach feels tighter. Sometimes I even sweat. Just moving these weights up and down.
Simple but super effective. Bye bye bingo wings. Hello sleeveless tops!

Replacing biscuits with fruit salad for my mid-morning snack.

I like this one!

It's early days but I hope giving up alcohol and remembering to take my vitamins daily will help.

Mirrorball2022 · 29/04/2022 20:40

Eating more fruit and veg.
Boring but very true: exercise that I enjoy regularly, plus walking even more.

CarryonCovid · 29/04/2022 20:43

3 mins plank before the shower every morning.

AngelinaFibres · 29/04/2022 20:48

Ten minutes on the rowing machine every morning followed by one egg scrambled with one piece of toast and a cup of really nice coffee. I feel zingy and awake after rowing and the egg on toast sees me though until lunchtime with no mid morning snack needed.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 29/04/2022 20:51

Great thread op. I cut out alcohol to maximum twice a week only. Some weeks I don't have any it just depends. I also cut down on carbs and started walking more.

RibNSaucyArseCrack · 29/04/2022 20:52

Waking up early and not lying in.

i feel way more energised on the days that I wake up at half 5 and get all my jobs done before everyone else is awake. I then have a whoooooole day to do whatever I want.

N0RKS · 29/04/2022 20:53

Sticking religiously to 10k steps a day…even when it’s raining. My knee and back pain has reduced and I feel perky most if the day. It does help that I have dogs

A daily turmeric capsule - which MIGHT be helping my arthritis ( something is, it might be that!)

a very low carb, no sugar diet has helped reduce weight very slowly but consistently. I don’t have cravings and sweet treats on my birthday / Christmas are a PROPER treat because they are so rare

fufulina · 29/04/2022 20:54

Don’t eat breakfast. After 40 two meals a day is all you need.

Wouldyabeguilty · 29/04/2022 20:55

Ditching the booze completely. Game changer.

Friedaseyebrow · 29/04/2022 20:57

Quit alcohol, got rid of some toxic 'friends' and started journalling

Ablababla · 29/04/2022 21:01

Tai chi. A good class and ten minutes a day practice. My posture is better, legs are stronger and more toned and my migraines are much less frequent. It also makes me feel calmer and more focused.

WaterLemonIcedTea · 29/04/2022 21:01

Gave up alcohol and smoking. Eating lower carb higher protein with green veggies everyday. Daily multivitamin and chlorella supplement. No snacking on chocolate (I had an awful sugar habit). Bootcamp fitness classes 3-4 times a week.

Wouldntitbenicetobeinyourshoes · 29/04/2022 21:02

Giving up alcohol

Yoga

ClaudiusTheGod · 29/04/2022 21:02

@hamstersarse
Giving up junk and processed food. Completely. No cake, biscuit, sweets, white bread, ready meals, packaged food

how long ago? I keep trying and failing at this

FourChimneys · 29/04/2022 21:03

No alcohol, lifetime very strict vegetarian. Spend as much time as possible outside, walk approx 50 miles a week (I don't have a dog, just a lot of motivation). Drink a lot of water, go to sleep at a sensible time.

People often comment on how healthy and active I am for my age. I tell them it is just a choice, nothing more complicated than that.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/04/2022 21:07

Boring but true - greens everyday, more water fruit and veg and walking.

Lindy2 · 29/04/2022 21:17

Cycling. I started during lockdown to get out and get some exercise.

I'm a gentle cyclist - as in I don't go for miles and miles and I don't do hills, but if I'm popping to the local shops or just want some fresh air, I'll go on my bike now. I feel good after I've been on my bike. I get a bit less time now but I'm doing my best to keep it up.
