To ban all links to the Daily Mail on this site

TheresaLeafy · 24/04/2022 10:26

And to request that MNHQ do not sell any threads/allow threads to be printed any more in the Daily Mail.

The Angela Rayner article is disgusting, shameful and an insult to every woman. The Daily Mail has no place on this site.

Won’t link the article for obvious reasons. And, please, no one link it either. If you don’t know what it is, then please google it.

OP posts:
MichelleScarn · 24/04/2022 10:28

I don't think @MNHQ contact the daily mail? Their journos will trawl the site and pick up the story?

NerrSnerr · 24/04/2022 10:28

How can MNHQ stop the daily mail from taking stories from here? Once it's written it's in the public domain and anyone can quote what is written. MNHQ don't sell stuff to the newspapers- why would they need to when it's perfectly legal for them just to take what they want.

TeenPlusCat · 24/04/2022 10:29

YABU.
You can't ban free speech.
People don't have to click links
Sometimes the Mail is the only one covering certain issues
I don't think MN has control over what the DM lifts from here anyway.

TeenPlusCat · 24/04/2022 10:30

ps How did you come across the article without reading the DM?

ENoeuf · 24/04/2022 10:30

😂 oh dear I haven’t seen it as I don’t read the thing. Unlike you….and so many others outraged by what they are forced to read against their will. How to rescue Mumsnetters from the scourge of enforced DM reading so many are afflicted by??

skippymcskippy · 24/04/2022 10:30

Er, no.

I'm not a DM fan but think that's both unenforceable and undesirable too. Echo chambers don't help anyone.

MichelleScarn · 24/04/2022 10:30

Are you also wanting all other news sites and where ever else its mentioned banned? I do find it odd the 'ban the DM!' threads.

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/04/2022 10:31

All Newspapers, and indeed websites, are tainted with fake news, bad reporting, partisan views. You would have to ban them all OP. There's a lot of shit out there, and it isn't just the DM. The Guardian prints complete loads of bollocks as well.

Georgeskitchen · 24/04/2022 10:31

Why? Just because you don't like the Daily Mail it doesn't mean nobody else can read it? There are lots of things I don't read, not because people tell me I can't, but because I think they are crap

MichelleScarn · 24/04/2022 10:32

skippymcskippy · 24/04/2022 10:30

Er, no.

Exactly and it's often said by self appointed paragons of virtue! 'How dare people read this paper, ban it and be pure and right like me'!

skippymcskippy · 24/04/2022 10:32

The Guardian's fucking awful these days.

PortiaFimbriata · 24/04/2022 10:33

Banning links is possible though unlikely.

Stopping any media outlet from reporting things which have been said publicly is not. If you stand in the town square and shout "I disapprove of my sister in law's parenting choices" while the school gossip is standing right there, you cannot then complain that's she's invading your privacy when you hear her telling this to everyone at the playground gate.

skippymcskippy · 24/04/2022 10:33

Yy @MichelleScarn, that religious/puritan spirit will always live amongst us and find new outlets.

Pyri · 24/04/2022 10:33

Checkmate Grin

girlmom21 · 24/04/2022 10:35

I’ve just Googled it. There are a million worse things they could’ve written about her.

FloraPostePosts · 24/04/2022 10:36

Pyri · 24/04/2022 10:33

Checkmate Grin

BBC News tweet out the morning papers’ front pages each evening. That’s how I saw it.

I suspect that other news outlets also do the same.

It definitely is news that the Mail has decided that this is a story.

ilovesooty · 24/04/2022 10:36

TeenPlusCat · 24/04/2022 10:30

ps How did you come across the article without reading the DM?

In my case Twitter.

Bearyhumcrack · 24/04/2022 10:37

daily mail ≠ mail on Sunday

donquixotedelamancha · 24/04/2022 10:38

Welcome to MN, OP. Did you join just to promote this article?

I must admit that the Mail marketing department are cleverer than a lot of spammers.

This is the article OP "doesn't' want us to read:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10746873/amp/Tories-accuse-Angela-Rayner-Basic-Instinct-ploy-crosses-uncrosses-legs-PMQs.html

Hunnybadger1 · 24/04/2022 10:40

Agreed it’s an absolutely disgusting article and it’s hard to believe anyone would condone it no matter what party you vote for. I do believe in free speech so can’t agree with a ban but hope that anyone would be offended about a woman being demeaned like this and avoid the DM.

SpindleInTheWind · 24/04/2022 10:40

Thing is, people like Julie Bindle and Suzanne Moore write for the Mail.

Meanwhile, Owen Jones writes for the Guardian, having cuckooed decent female writers out of his nest. The women are entitled to earn a living. They freelance where they can.

The landscape is a lot more complex now than simply Mail = load of shit.

mudgetastic · 24/04/2022 10:41

They report what Tories have said about her.

Hum.

Isn't that rather nasty of the Tory MPs?
Isn't it fair that we see the abuse she is subjected to by the Tory MPs?

Florenz · 24/04/2022 10:41

I just searched for the story (I likely wouldn't have even known about it without this thread) and the same story is being reported by several newspapers and news sites.

PortiaFimbriata · 24/04/2022 10:41

This is Angela Rayner's Twitter thread if you want the essentials.
mobile.twitter.com/AngelaRayner/status/1518126845958443010?cxt=HHwWhMCyldaUvJEqAAAA
I notice that the BBC News page has omitted the MOS from their daily front page roundup today (I check every day because the Daily Star occasionally runs an absolute cracker).

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/04/2022 10:42

Erm thr responsibility to either not read something lies with us surely?

Besides I feel its important to read everything and figure things out for yourself. Even if that means reading papers others disapprove of
