And to request that MNHQ do not sell any threads/allow threads to be printed any more in the Daily Mail.

The Angela Rayner article is disgusting, shameful and an insult to every woman. The Daily Mail has no place on this site.

Won’t link the article for obvious reasons. And, please, no one link it either. If you don’t know what it is, then please google it.

At least folk can read the DM articles rather than be faced with a paywall like a lot of others. Whether you want to read them or not is up to the individual. Thats called a free country.

worraliberty · 24/04/2022 10:47

That's ridiculous. The DM always has been and (probably) always will be the most popular news site on Mumsnet. Or at least it has been for the 12 years I've been here.

I don't think I'd ever read a DM article until I found MN.

SickAndTiredAgain · 24/04/2022 10:48

ENoeuf · 24/04/2022 10:30

😂 oh dear I haven’t seen it as I don’t read the thing. Unlike you….and so many others outraged by what they are forced to read against their will. How to rescue Mumsnetters from the scourge of enforced DM reading so many are afflicted by??

To be fair, I haven't read the article as I don't read the DM either but I know what article OP's referring to as I've seen it linked to, talked about, and quoted on Twitter.

But I don't agree with OP's general point about banning it.

TheresaLeafy · 24/04/2022 10:53

Actually I name changed.

I saw the article on Twitter.

Clearly a lot of you think this type of writing is acceptable.

<sighs>

It's not acceptable but I don't know what you expect Mumsnet to do about it.

WallaceinAnderland · 24/04/2022 10:55

Dammit, now I'm going to have to look for the article in the DM so that I know what you're talking about

skippymcskippy · 24/04/2022 10:55

No.

I just don't agree with banning things like that. It's pathetic and doesn't help anything, it just buries issues.

Tackle them instead of saying they're disgusting and hiding them away.

worraliberty · 24/04/2022 10:56

But why did you name change if you believe in what you're saying? This thread is hardly 'outing' is it?

Is it because you've linked to the DM in the past or spoken about being a reader?

skippymcskippy · 24/04/2022 10:56

Censorship is the main thing to avoid here.

I'm convinced the little echo chamber culture is why Brexit panned out the way it did.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/04/2022 10:56

Why does reading something mean you find it acceptable?

Find me one paper that only ever publishes acceptable material

worraliberty · 24/04/2022 10:56

She’s probably Angela Rayner

wishitwasaduvetday · 24/04/2022 11:05

Im very sceptical of DM articles, but isn't the issue that THE TORIES have made this ridiculous accusation, not that the DM have reported on it? I think if it is to be believed it says more about the Tories than anything.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/04/2022 10:56

Well exactly. If everyone agreed with everything they read and found it 'acceptable', that would be a very strange world. Why would be need reviews? Readers' letters pages? Opinion pieces?

I've recently made reference to an Owen Jones article on here, for example, about the French elections, to make a point about his admiration for something I personally find very unacceptable.

AngelfishDecay · 24/04/2022 11:09

Loving the patronising little <sighs> there - it must be awfully tiring and frustrating to know you're right all the time but that none of these stupid women are listening...

Is it Michael Fabricant and Nadine Dorries? They strike me as nuts enough to do this.

TimBoothseyes · 24/04/2022 11:09

TeenPlusCat · 24/04/2022 10:30

ps How did you come across the article without reading the DM?

I came across on Twitter, being retweeted by someone I follow. There is more than 1 way to come across an article, so not quite the "gotcha" you thought it was eh?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/04/2022 11:10

The Mail is reporting the accusation from Tory MPs. They haven't created the accusation. Their reporting is 'sensational' and cheap but the central point is from the Tories.
I hope the entire opposition front bench sit there and do a ripple of slow leg crossing every time the PM speaks.

wishitwasaduvetday · 24/04/2022 11:11

@PastMyBestBeforeDate a Mexican leg wave from the front bench at next pmq!!! Love it! 😆😆

HRTQueen · 24/04/2022 11:14

Well that has lead many of us to have a look

Yes it’s sexist I agree but have seen far worse

shall we also ban The Guardian for the racist cartoon they printed (that they shamefully didn’t apologise for) of Priti Patal or is she fair game ?

Flopbopandpop · 24/04/2022 11:16

What a close minded post OP, maybe you do not like the content of an article on DM, but please explain to me how you get a balanced view of the world and events if you omit every piece of information you disagree with?

By reading as much as possible you can form a balanced opinion and hopefully have the intelligence to identify fake news.

Maybe you only like an eco chamber.

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2022 11:20

Rather than banning the DM, you can send your complaint about the article here
www.ipso.co.uk/complain/

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/04/2022 11:22

There is an extreme push at the moment ro somehow categorise the morals and values of people based on stuff like this. Instead of seeing that you can agree with some people witg some things , one agreement /reading of an article means you align with everything they have ever said/done.

Its pathetic. You can agree with trump that grass is green without being hos mind and moral clone

grapewines · 24/04/2022 11:25

Mumsnet is a public site. They're also a business that gets ad money from clicks and traffic. Good luck getting them to ban anything. Of course they can't or won't.

As for threads being lifted from here. It's shit, but when something is free you're often the product. People should be aware of that when they post and comment.

YouHaveYourFathersBreasts · 24/04/2022 11:27

I don’t care for the daily bigot either, just for the record, but banning links to it is banning free speech and that’s not on and doesn’t solve the problem.

Liverpool as a city and a club, got treated fucking appallingly by the sun newspaper after Hillsborough and they got it right by collectively deciding to boycott the paper. Most people there still seem to. Good for them. They don’t finance that shit rag of a paper and that’s the best way to face these things. Not banning it.
