To ban all links to the Daily Mail on this site

And to request that MNHQ do not sell any threads/allow threads to be printed any more in the Daily Mail.

The Angela Rayner article is disgusting, shameful and an insult to every woman. The Daily Mail has no place on this site.

Won’t link the article for obvious reasons. And, please, no one link it either. If you don’t know what it is, then please google it.

Actually I name changed.

You would have to be impressively thick to imagine that this post isn't going to drive traffic to the Mail. If you genuinely thought you were in the right, why name change?

I have a very open mind
Clearly a lot of you think this type of writing is acceptable.

Can you not see why ironic and goady comments like this make it hard to take you seriously?

donquixotedelamancha · 24/04/2022 15:24

The DM is the ONLY sizeable UK paper with a subscriber base that includes significantly more women than men. There’s definitely a classist element at play among people choosing particular papers to rail against/ridicule/ban, but when you get “ban the Mail!” and not one word about the comparable but far more virulent Daily Express

In fairness the Mail used to be especially awful and nobody reads the express except to find out what Diana has been up to lately.

However I do agree that these days the Mail is much improved (a low bar, as this article shows) and several other, once respectable, papers are shit.

Yorksirenotsorose · 24/04/2022 15:50

I must admit I read the DM every single day not for the content just the bat shit crazy comments 🤣, it lightens up day. Much like why I come on to MN 75% of the comments are full of it or dam right insane gives me a real chuckle to think there may be real people living in this world like on here. As for banning it, it's the same nutty reason alot of people vote conservative the left wing in this country has become a culture of cancel everything and everyone, it's crazy.

knowinglesseveryday · 24/04/2022 16:33

I saw that story on the bbc . What bastards they are to print it. And an unnamed source too-these sexist pigs are always cowards.

In a sense it’s a positive that they printed it. It’s misogynist Tories showing their true colours, despite “knowing what a woman is”. So they know and still promulgate this disgusting nonsense.

knowinglesseveryday · 24/04/2022 16:58

Good point!

Herbarium · 25/04/2022 15:51

Who even reads this rag? I honestly imagine in my naivety that only uneducated morons gave it a second glance.

Must say though, when they tell us all who to vote for come the generals, we certainly know how obey.

Helleofabore · 25/04/2022 20:36

oh dear. I would have said that only uneducated morons would write off the Daily Mail without a proper second glance. Believing it has zero substance to offer is an indication you are deeply prejudiced.

TheresaLeafy · 27/04/2022 06:57

Given that David Dillon is refusing to meet with Lindsay Hoyle, the DMail has become nothing more than a vessel of venom. It has lost all credibility. Journalism should be discerning, not a salacious printer of things it’s been told to say verbatim. Double standards and hypocrisy.

balalake · 27/04/2022 07:09

The Paper that Supported the Blackshirts has been a nasty paper for as long as any of us can remember. There are other nasty papers too.

If links are not to be posted, suggest it applies to all newspapers, where you just name the publication. I would be concerned if just one disgusting rag is singled out.

Helleofabore · 27/04/2022 08:21

And yet, there amongst some of the click bait articles, some of the poorly researched articles are ones that are published by the Daily Mail well before other mainstream news.

And some of the articles posted are well written, factually accurate articles that are free and not paywalled and so can be shared here. They also don’t require archive links which MN will delete straight away or not even allow to be posted at all (the ‘we have hidden this post until we have looked at it’ message is usually an archive or a petition or a crowdfunder site.)

Why should they meet with the speaker? It's an awful article but you only need to look on the mail site now to see a whole section on freedom of speech and how they're standing strong in the face of censorship which will appeal massively to some of their readers.

Stoppedsmokingnowgrumpy · 27/04/2022 09:08

I don’t really understand op.

If you’re in a position of authority within the mumsnet organisation you do not need to ask if you are being unreasonable to ban all links and to stop your org selling. You have the authority to act as you please,

if you are just some random poster with no authority to ban links then this is very very strange indeed that you think you can ban them and would post a thread saying you’re banning them.

im not sure what’s the situation is here.

veronicagoldberg · 27/04/2022 09:08

The Mail is the most popular newspaper in the UK. Somebody must be reading it!

This makes me laugh, because I bet half of them are on MN frothing about how they would NEVER read such tripe 😂

iheartmybeachhut · 27/04/2022 10:13

Freedom of speech, you don't have to click / read anything that may offend you. There are plenty of countries in the world where there are so many restrictions on media. God forbid the U.K ever goes down that path.

iheartmybeachhut · 27/04/2022 10:19

I don't read newspapers / online papers but there must be alot of mners who do or access items to be linking or commenting.
It comes across as trendy herd mentality to slag off the Mail because some are scared of being verbally lynched if they admit to reading it.
As for calling people morons / idiots for their choice, how childish and pathetic, it says more about the name caller imo and their limited thinking.

Helleofabore · 27/04/2022 10:25

Absolutely. I think though that MN is a great example that shows people cannot simply 'scroll' past something they don't like. They have expected that MN curate content to suit their personal taste. They ask for threads to be moved, or deleted for instance.

Boards have been split to accommodate some people's need to have MN boards curated to suit them. And when they have been asked by other posters why they cannot just scroll past threads that don't interest them or they don't agree with like grown adults, they will not answer.

Labscollie · 27/04/2022 10:53

Adults have choices, which extend to their reading material. All the lefties getting wound up at the Daily Mail, is really quite entertaining.

Well said. Look at how Brexiteers were treated. These people are nothing but bullies. Quite ironic that they call others keyboard warriors. Lefties are the most intolerant political persuasion on earth. Here's an example of the venom of a lefty. I saw a post on Facebook, from a teacher, who, on the results of Brexit typed "these people shouldn't be allowed to breed". Now that's a teacher. So you can understand why educational institutions brainwash kids into thinking their way. Awful, insidious practice.

WandaWomblesaurus · 27/04/2022 11:12

If you want to ban woman hating links and articles you would have to include the Guardian, the Independent and anything written by Owen Jones too….

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/04/2022 11:15

Now even more clicks for the DM article OP doesn't want us to read. Its like Father Ted and the banned film episode!

Yes!

On an unrelated note, can I PLEASE ask people to STOP sending me doughnuts - especially any of the popular varieties that I'm going to list in detail shortly in my next post, along with all of the supermarkets that have them on special offer; and my address to which you must NOT be sending them....

I kind of think the same about a lot of deleted posts. Obviously, some of them are just too nasty to stand; but I believe that many of them would be better left up - maybe marked/flagged - for people to see what the posters are about, what they say and, crucially, for the sensible majority to tear them back down again using intelligent debate and facts.

You’re very bossy, aren’t you? People can read what they like. They can link what they like, too.

I don’t like the Mail so I don’t read it. Problem solved.
