To tell someone their swimming costume is see through

I'm at the pool, and there's a lady here whose swimming costume is totally see through at the back.

I want to tell her because I would want to know if it was me (because this is one of things I worry about at the swimming pool) and she isn't here with anyone other than kids too young to tell her.

But I can't decide if it's better just to leave her in blissful ignorance as I'm sure she'll be quite embarrassed?!

I don't really know how to say it either - "I just wanted to say I think your swimming costume might be on the way out"?

No don't say anything

Aubrey1981 · 16/04/2022 11:46

I would want to know 😊

Notanotherwindow · 16/04/2022 11:48

So would I. I'd much rather the discomfort of another woman quietly telling me than the humiliation of being laughed at or leered at.

Momicrone · 16/04/2022 11:49

I often see people with transparent leggings and wonder if they know their knickers are on display

Alleycat1 · 16/04/2022 11:49

Wait until she is in the changing room .If you tell her while she is still in the pool she will be too embarrassed to ever get out.

PlanBea · 16/04/2022 11:49

I work on the theory if they can't fix it within 10 seconds (eg: spinach in their teeth, hair sticking up, shirt button undone) then don't tell them

Chely · 16/04/2022 11:50

She may know and not care. She may be mortified.

Hmmm I wouldn't want to deliver the news to her either way.

growgrowinggrown · 16/04/2022 11:51

Depends, if I'd just got in then I'm stuck with the choice of being so uncomfortable and self-conscious for the rest of my visit, or trying to wrangle my kids out of the pool and the ensuing tantrum they'd throw because they didn't get to swim.
I'd much prefer you to catch in the showers /changing area and point it out then.

Hellocatshome · 16/04/2022 11:51

Difficult one I was once at a pool where a young teen was wearing normal white shorts (not swimming ones) once they were wet they left nothing to the imagination. I actually told a lifeguard rather than the boy due to his age, the lifeguard had a quiet word and bought the boys towel to poolside so he could get out and quickly wrap it around for modesty. If she seems approachable maybe have a quiet word and ask if she has a towel poolside that she would like you to fetch for her for when she gets out.

TheOpenRoad · 16/04/2022 11:52

I'd let her enjoy her swim and then tell her in the changing rooms. There's no way she can know it's see through at the back herself

Thesearmsofmine · 16/04/2022 11:52

If you can catch her once she is in the changing rooms then tell her discreetly. If it would have to be while she is in the pool then I wouldn’t.

xyzandabc · 16/04/2022 11:53

If you are going to say something, I wouldn't say I think you're costume is on the way out. If someone said that to me, I'd think they were telling me my costume looked a bit old and knackered or dated and the person was just weird and rude.

I'd go more for something like ' I'm not sure if you know but you're costume is a bit see through at the back, hope you don't think I'm talking out if turn but if it were me I'd want to know'.

xyzandabc · 16/04/2022 11:53

*your

Hippoevens · 16/04/2022 11:54

No I don’t think you should say something, I wouldn’t like someone offering their opinion on my swim suit regardless of whether I knew it was see through

Comedycook · 16/04/2022 11:59

I would never say anything

AHungryCaterpillar · 16/04/2022 12:01

I wouldn’t say anything, I saw a woman with see through leggings and didn’t say anything, sometimes I think people know anyway. She was with a man so it’s not like she was on her own.

LindaEllen · 16/04/2022 12:02

I would like to be told, but also would never have the balls to say anything!

TenThousandSpoons · 16/04/2022 12:10

I would want to know. Even if she checked the back when she put it on it would have been ok dry so she doesn’t know how it looks wet. Agree with not saying it’s “on its way out” as that’s ambiguous, just say in the changing room that it’s quite see through, when she is safely wrapped in a towel or already dressed.

This, I wouldn't know what you meant either.
Luredbyapomegranate · 16/04/2022 12:11

Yes do. Just say - um just wanted to let you know your costume has worn through and is quite see through at the back.

It’ll take a minute and save her proper embarrassment

CookPassBabtridge · 16/04/2022 12:11

I would tell her in the changing room once she's finished swimming.

UnsuitableHat · 16/04/2022 12:12

Lol. I’d say something to someone I knew, but not a stranger.

AHungryCaterpillar · 16/04/2022 12:12

Why tell her when she’s finished? Won’t she wonder why you didn’t tell her sooner?

ENoeuf · 16/04/2022 12:15

What does see through mean? Thread bare so you can see skin peeking through or see through as in translucent and you can see outline of bum crack? I wouldn’t say anything, bums aren’t that exciting.
