AIBU to think this was disability discrimination - asked to leave soft play after 2 hours (2 children with ASD/ADHD)

Today went to local soft play. It had a brilliant fun and kind owner. Sadly has since changed hands.

My 2 youngest have adhd/asd. We were the only family asked to leave after 2 hours play. Other families with neurotypical children who also entered at 10am weren't asked to leave. AIBU to think this is disability discrimination?

As not to drip feed they weren't behaving badly or loud.

I'd paid exactly the same as them.

Any parents of children with additional needs have similar? What would you have done or said?

Why did they ask you to leave?

luxxlisbon · 06/04/2022 14:42

If they weren’t being loud or anything that could be perceived as ‘bad’ behaviour then why do you assume they knew your kids had adhd and were discriminated against for it?

Did they say why you were being asked to leave? Is there typically a time limit?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 06/04/2022 14:44

Far more info needed. If your kids weren’t misbehaving how would anyone know they had ADHD? Why you? Was anyone else asked to leave after you? Are there set play times, and was it the end of that session?

Daffodilz · 06/04/2022 14:45

@Shoxfordian

Why did they ask you to leave?
The young girl said we'd had 2 hours. Families who'd also had 2 hours weren't asked to leave :(

What reason did they give?

Bagelsandbrie · 06/04/2022 14:46

Didn’t you challenge why you were asked to leave while others had been there longer? Maybe they didn’t realise the others had been there longer and just forgot about them? It may not be anything to do with disabilities.

ladydimitrescu · 06/04/2022 14:47

It sounds like they have a two hour play limit - which a lot do locally to me! They were probably working their way around the others.
Look online and check, I bet that's what it is.

it's a small village re the additional needs and no nobody else was asked to leave. I'd just bought a jug of blackcurrant juice at 1.75 that we couldn't drink.

It's meant to be 2 hours when all seats full. Was half empty (unsurprisingly) I've also cleaned the floor myself as it was covered in food.

Unfortunately from what you've said you can't state for definite that it was due to your children's disabilities.

1 of their team works at the local school and would know. It used to be such a nice activity. NM other soft play is nice.

Did you leave?

How do you know that others haven't been asked to leave?

Shoxfordian · 06/04/2022 14:49

It seems like she was probably going to tell the others as well; if you pay for 2 hours then you get 2 hours 🙄

The 2 hour was only applied to us. None of the 5 other families who entered at the same time had to leave.

They were not asked to leave.

We have this around us- although usually 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours!

I am not sure how they would know that your kids have adhd.. I am sure other people were asked to leave eventually too. The place near us who only give an hour, are sticklers for keeping to the exact minute that you entered etc.

Whinge · 06/04/2022 14:50

Are you saying this one member of staff made you leave because they knew your children have ADHD / ASD?

Horcruxe · 06/04/2022 14:51

Our local one is 2 hours.

They keep a record of the time you arrive.

If you saw other people arriving after you then I would assume they would be asked to leave after you too.

ladydimitrescu · 06/04/2022 14:51

@Daffodilz you don't know it wasn't applied to the others - unless you stood outside and waited?
They asked you first, there's obviously a two hour time limit. You'd probably gone over a bit. Nothing to do with your kids having adhd and how would they even know?!

Arianya · 06/04/2022 14:52

You said it’s a 2 hour play limit but then you were surprised to be asked to leave after 2 hours? Sorry but that doesn’t sound like discrimination. It sounds like they have a 2 hour play limit.

As for the others, are you 100% certain that they entered before you, and hadn’t paid for extra time, and that the staff didn’t also ask them to leave a few minutes later?

TheLoupGarou · 06/04/2022 14:52

Mine are too old for soft play now, but from memory most places have a 2 hour limit?

Are you so sure about when other families arrived? How do you know others weren't also asked to leave? How would anyone else know your kids had ADHD? I also live in a small place - that doesn't mean everyone knows the ins and outs of my kids lives, I've found people generally don't pay much attention...

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/04/2022 14:55

The 2 hour was only applied to us. None of the 5 other families who entered at the same time had to leave.

But you left. How would you know if they were then asked?

My child with ADHD is pretty obviously ND at soft play. Never asked to leave unless she was misbehaving.

Summerofcontent · 06/04/2022 14:56

I would guess it opened at 10am and there was a queue of families waiting to go in.

It sounds like op was the only family asked to leave at 12 and none of the other families she was queuing with at 10 was asked to leave at 12

pilates · 06/04/2022 14:56

How do you know the other families didn’t leave shortly after you?

Figgygal · 06/04/2022 14:56

How do you know that though?
Id say call them but you should have challenged at the time

ExplodingCarrots · 06/04/2022 14:57

Maybe the other families paid to extend their session ? You said it was half empty so maybe they were allowed to pay to stay longer . You can't know for absolute certain it's because of their disabilities. They may have been asked to leave after you left.
