AIBU to think this was disability discrimination - asked to leave soft play after 2 hours (2 children with ASD/ADHD)

Today went to local soft play. It had a brilliant fun and kind owner. Sadly has since changed hands.

My 2 youngest have adhd/asd. We were the only family asked to leave after 2 hours play. Other families with neurotypical children who also entered at 10am weren't asked to leave. AIBU to think this is disability discrimination?

As not to drip feed they weren't behaving badly or loud.

I'd paid exactly the same as them.

Any parents of children with additional needs have similar? What would you have done or said?

Sounds to me like you have a huge chip on your shoulder. Do not assume that the staff at the play centre knew of the ADHD etc. Others may have paid for 2 sessions.

@Daffodilz

How the hell do you know they paid extra?
Well you're making loads of assumptions so surely other posters can?
christmassausages · 06/04/2022 19:34

If you're not going back you have nothing to lose by emailing and asking why you had to leave and others got to stay.

Chonfox · 06/04/2022 19:58

Kicking yourself over £1.75?! look under the sofa cushions and you'll get a refund Grin

Unless you know the staff member at your DCs school hates you/your children or something then YABU. There's no way it was due to your DCs disabilities if they were well behaved.

I'm
Wondering why you'd buy a jug of juice 15 minutes before your time was up?

@Peppapig7262662

I used to work in a soft play area.

We would call the families one by one in 5 minute increments, to avoid a rush of kids trying to run out together, getting upset etc.

Our soft play does this too. I think it prevents rouge kids escaping unnoticed when they aren't meant to be leaving too. Harder if there is a crowd

I imagine they’ll reply ‘we allow customers to stay for the duration they have paid for. Having used your paid for time you were asked to leave the premises.’

It’s not really their business to tell you what other families were doing - I know op apparently knows for absolutely sure that all the other families didn’t ask to pay to stay longer and were not asked to leave at any time but even so that’s at the businesses discretion. She had already used up all her time that she’d paid for, and whether she’d bought juice or not doesn’t really matter.

Same way you can’t pay to see a film then say oh but I just bought a coke, can’t I stay for the next one? Well no you can’t!

Pixiedust1234 · 07/04/2022 01:20

This is very strange. Isnt there a time limit for play? Most softplay businesses limit the sessions to 2 hours which you say you had. You have no idea if the others paid extra, or if being asked to leave due to time up is staggered to avoid too many hyped kids in the car park, or if they were related/friends with the owner/staff. You have given NO indication as to why it falls under disability discrimination.

AWombleScorned · 07/04/2022 01:39

Why would you ask for a refund on the juice? Confused you bought it knowing how much time you had left

user1477391263 · 07/04/2022 02:16

Wouldn't it have made more sense to have asked why the other families weren't being asked to leave, instead of seething over it?

TheOriginalEmu · 07/04/2022 02:28

I would have asked why no one else was being asked to leave.

whitewashing · 07/04/2022 05:33

You get 2 hours in our local one. I’ve never been asked to leave, I’ve got it timed to the last second and then we’re out the door!! 😂😂 I can’t wait to leave!

KatherineofGaunt · 07/04/2022 07:02

Perhaps they had a private party coming in and needed to ask someone to leave so they didn't exceed numbers and it happened to be you. And they didn't realise you'd just bought juice.

Honestly, there are all number of reasons why you had to leave at the end of your alloted time. I work with SEN children so I know they get a raw deal, but not everything negative that happens in their lives is due to their disability.
