Price hikes. Why is there nit rioting in the streets?

My electric has risen 10p overnight for actual usage, yet a massive 14p for the daily standing charge. So even if I used no electricity I’m spending 40p a day to just say I have electric. Even if I use none and don’t have heating, lighting or cook. And this will be worse on prepay.

Why is the government doing fuck all and where are the headlines of rioting in the street!.

I think you'll find another thread with practically the exact same heating on here.

moonbedazzled · 04/04/2022 01:50

Not heating. Tut. Heading. Freudian slip. 😄

Flapjacker48 · 04/04/2022 01:52

This is Britain, people will moan on Mumsnet and other social media and then do nothing else.

Stevenage689 · 04/04/2022 04:36

How would rioting help?

araiwa · 04/04/2022 04:52

Bit late now

Should've been rioting when it was all privatised

Monty27 · 04/04/2022 05:43

The government will only offer support when the next election is coming up.
People fall for it again and again and bury their heads.
I'm surprised there hasn't been civil unrest before now.

KatherineJaneway · 04/04/2022 05:45

What would rioting accomplish? Seriously.

EasterBunnysLittleHelper · 04/04/2022 05:50

The government would be placed under pressure if there is rioting/civil unrest. They would have to do something about it. I have never rioted in my life and don't intend to start now, but there are lots of people with nothing to lose. It will happen.

carefullycourageous · 04/04/2022 07:25

Grin

Yes quite, one must always seek to accomplish something when you are a person in an absolute rage at the system with nothing to lose and nothing to gain.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 04/04/2022 07:27

I remember the 2010 riots. Really really don’t want to see that again.

Aishah231 · 04/04/2022 07:30

People haven't felt the full effects yet. Most are just getting into debt. That can't carry on forever.

carefullycourageous · 04/04/2022 07:33

I hope there will not be riots, of course, but I would welcome proper demonstrations.

00100001 · 04/04/2022 07:39

Can't afford the petrol to get there mate.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 04/04/2022 07:45

I've concluded the country is full of cap-doffing "thank you sir" race to the bottom people.

Any time any issue of employment or pay is mentioned on here (or elsewhere), a load of people pop up to say "be careful or you'll get fired" and "you might need a reference" and "I had to work unpaid 9 hours shifts for 5 years before the company finally agreed to start paying me"

Unless/until these cunts wise up, we will all suffer because they will accept any shit flung their way and then vote to be shafted some more.

malificent7 · 04/04/2022 07:50

This is capitalism but apparently it's the best way " because communism worked so well didn't it." No exploration of any alternatives like socialism.
And people vote for Tory " coz Corbyn, Starmer, trans issues."

SerendipityJane · 04/04/2022 07:50

Presumably no rioting because (looks at government) this is what people voted for.

5zeds · 04/04/2022 07:53

Because rioting is a ridiculous way to behave?

girlmom21 · 04/04/2022 07:54

All rioting does is cost the victims of the riots more money and wastes police time and resources

Im2022 · 04/04/2022 07:54

I wouldn’t riot myself but I’d like others to. Am I allowed to say that?

DdraigGoch · 04/04/2022 07:56

How can anyone riot? No one can afford the petrol.

Bornsloppy · 04/04/2022 07:57

Go on then, you start it off.

Lockheart · 04/04/2022 08:05

This! Lots of people posting about "why isn't there mass unrest / rioting" but none of them seem prepared to put MN down and get off their arse and, you know, start it.

We don't do rioting in the UK (hardly ever).

The least you can do is use the vote you have in May, if there are elections in your area.
