Price hikes. Why is there nit rioting in the streets?

My electric has risen 10p overnight for actual usage, yet a massive 14p for the daily standing charge. So even if I used no electricity I’m spending 40p a day to just say I have electric. Even if I use none and don’t have heating, lighting or cook. And this will be worse on prepay.

Why is the government doing fuck all and where are the headlines of rioting in the street!.

Everyone who agitated for global lockdowns and zero covid. Your to blame.

Everyone who agitated for net zero climate policy. Your to blame.

Everyone who keeps wanting to vote themselves free shit off the backs of others labour, your to blame.

All that's happening right now is the bill dropping for the last few decades of ruinous climate policy and reliance on globalism for production.
CoVid exposed how weak the world was to disruption to our supply chains. This has caused worldwide problems with supply and cost of materials, the effects of which are only just starting to be felt, and it's gonna get worse. With no grain from Ukraine, no fertilizer etc food is gonna be a REAL problem by next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see rationing in the western economies, in fact, Spain has just passed new laws to allow this to happen. Locking down the world wide economies has proved to be borderline suicidal, especially for nothing worse than a bad cough for the vast majority.
Next we have net zero. And everyone who supports it is stating to understand the cost. It means zero heat, zero energy and zero transport, oh, and zero money. We have destroyed our own manufacturing base in the chase for reduced pollution, only ship good jobs, money and skills abroad where they are still polluting. We have built windmills instead of power stations leaving us an unpredictable power supply while relying on foreign energy. Net zero is insanity.

Lastly, let's look at all the grasping shits with their hands on my pockets. This goes all the way back to Attlee after the war. The share state had never been paid for in this country. Each generation pissing on the bill for they largesse to their children and grandchildren. My taxes simply disappear to pay the debt to pay the benefits of someone born 100 years ago so voted themselves free shit without wanting to pay for it. This cycle is going on and on, and until the total collapse of the current economic system it will only get worse.

AChocolateOrangeaday · 04/04/2022 10:01

Because we are not French.

etulosba · 04/04/2022 10:05

I’m not sure how breaking shop windows and stealing televisions would help.

Pollyforever · 04/04/2022 10:16

Why aren't you rioting OP? That is probably your answer to why other people aren't!

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 04/04/2022 10:22

Because it is a stupid response that achieves nothing.

(I actually think this post is a bit tongue-in-cheek)

squishee · 04/04/2022 10:24

Isn't it a criminal offence to incite rioting?
I believe Mr Trump is currently under investigation for same.

Plus, as pps have said, this is about global macroeconomics, not just the UK.

Unanananana · 04/04/2022 10:47

Because I have to go to work to pay the bills I would be rioting about.

toomanydogsandcats · 04/04/2022 10:47

I'm afraid the nits are too busy to riot, currently they are all rampaging in my house. BastardsGrin.

SockFluffInTheBath · 04/04/2022 11:05

See the latest ER twats who have now made it impossible to get petrol/diesel in some areas. So intent are they on getting their message across they have lost countless thousands a few days wages, people who are already on the very edge have ben pushed over it by this.

Then go home to their gas heating and gas cookers as if it’s a different proposition 🙄 We can’t have nuclear because of the waste, we can’t have more wind/tidal/wave because the wildlife don’t like it- so what do we do? It’s not good enough to say ‘don’t do X’ without a suggestion of Y or Z to offer.

Yeah, but we all want/ wanted lots of stuff - new cars, new kitchens, umpteen clothes outfits, the latest handbag, foreign holidays, even fancy foods out of season and we wanted it as cheaply as possible.
Now we are going to have to pay nearer the true value.

You are sort of ranting that it's everyone else's fault - it's our fault. As the cheapest was sought the cost of shipping it etc was ignored.

No UK government could do what some other countries are doing because we don't have the same infrastructure

Bollocks. It's political will that's lacking.

So where you getting the money from?
DGRossetti · 04/04/2022 12:41

So where you getting the money from?

Just an idea ... (notice how insignificant the benefit fraud is compared to the money spent "preventing" it)

Unforgettablefire · 04/04/2022 12:53

Maybe they’re trying to ban protests because people are getting so angry it’ll turn into riots. And I think we’re being given the £200 (loan) towards the winter bills to stop the kick offs.

Scary numbers, all of them!
BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 04/04/2022 16:07

A general strike is what is needed. It would bring the government to its knees in no time. Then you'd need mass protests, then a general election and hold the next government to account.

gogohm · 04/04/2022 16:09

Well we are paying almost twice as much per day standing change as those in London - that is wrong basically, but what can we do?

SamphiretheStickerist · 04/04/2022 16:16

Wait for the hike standing charges to be made illegal, as Ofgem has been asked to do. But as they are there to mop up the costs of teh remaining providers taking on the debt of those that went, it might not happen.

The only thing that can stop this is a windfall tax - and that has different knock on effects for as many people. Though, like the water providers, I'd be up for that, even if it did damage my meagre pension pot. That may not be the case for many others.

Nidan2Sandan · 04/04/2022 16:17

It's too cold, we like to save our rioting for the warmer weather.

Seriously though, rioting is such a violent act and why you would advocate this I dont know. It can cost innocent people their safety and livelihoods. Do you actually remember the previous riots? Hmm

SamphiretheStickerist · 04/04/2022 16:19

Though I hadn't seen that figures for the differences

www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-10667939/Energy-standing-charges-regions-pay-60-others.html

They can indeed get to fuck! The infographic in there is bloody scary. The poorest of regions is paying so much more becaue of the shit infrastructure - you know, the one they were supposed to be fixing when they dug up all our newly repaired roads? Fuckwits one and all!

moonbedazzled · 04/04/2022 16:21

@AChocolateOrangeaday

Because we are not French.
Yeah. And I don't look good in yellow.
iklboo · 04/04/2022 16:22

Because a large percentage of rioters will be violent thugs just intent on causing harm & damage, not concerned about price rises.

Snugglepumpkin · 04/04/2022 16:57

It's not just 49p a day standing charge for electricity in the South West.

It's 49p + VAT = 51.626p a day standing charge.

That's £188.43 (& 0.49 of a penny) a year even if you don't use any power at all.

dontcallmelen · 04/04/2022 17:28

No one has to riot, demonstrate/March/write/email MP’s/ local conservative associations/MSM/local radio or newspapers lots of ways we could start to get our concerns heard.
