I've come home to 2 terrified rabbits sitting in a cage in my garden. The bloody things were surrounded by the billion cats that live here who are fascinated.

I've relocated them to a very old rickety hutch from when we had rabbits a million years ago and chucked them some hay, carrots and water and told the DSs at least 72 times that we are not keeping them whilst they fight over names.

CCTV shows a woman dropping them over the gate. She obviously didn't realise I've got CCTV and I have a nice clear view of her face.

I mean I clearly won't be returning the rabbits but WIBU to stick her on Facebook in a "what the hell were you doing" post?

So a random woman left 2 rabbits in a cage in your garden?

PintOfBovril · 26/03/2022 13:23

They may have escaped and she thought she was doing a 'good turn' by popping them back? Shaming people on Facebook is a bit extreme isn't it? Can't we just get annoyed privately these days?

Blurp · 26/03/2022 13:24

I wouldn't start with Facebook, I'd get advice from the RSPCA or police first. Facebook will just start a witch hunt and lead nowhere.

Also, congratulations to your DS's on their new rabbits!

Winkydink · 26/03/2022 13:25

I don’t really understand what’s happened here?! An unknown woman just dumped two rabbits in a hutch in your garden? YANBU to put the video on FB

Lurking9to5 · 26/03/2022 13:26

I wouldn't.

SevenWaystoLeave · 26/03/2022 13:26

I'd contact the RSPCA and hand the footage to them

Eileen101 · 26/03/2022 13:26

Why on earth did someone drop rabbits over your fence?
Do you know her? Did she think they were yours and got out?

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 26/03/2022 13:28

I’d just focus on getting them re homed unless they are in neglected health I’m not sure what outcome you’d get from naming and shaming on face book. Phone rspca ask them to take the rabbits and offer them the CCTV footage.

I don’t really have much time for people who get into the whole name and shame shit on Facebook

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 26/03/2022 13:28

@Blurp Yep.

@PintOfBovril that is a fair point. But then she'd have had to have a cage on her to leave them in? Possible I suppose. I could get annoyed privately thats true but I'm in a general strop for other reasons with people dumping stuff around so it's moved me from irritated to irate and it's just like WTF. Accept its not crime of the century though

Is someone on your street is looking for some missing rabbits?
Because otherwise she was weirdly carrying around 2 rabbits to drop off in a random garden.

MarthaFokker · 26/03/2022 13:30

Report her, the rabbits might not be hers. Try to keep it factual though, without all the exaggeration.

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 26/03/2022 13:30

I would assume she thought they had escaped and popped them back over the fence if they were outside your garden.

Naming and shaming on fb when you know none of the facts is a pretty shit thing to do. You could ruin her life with the amount of hate that will be sent her way.

MarthaFokker · 26/03/2022 13:31

And obviously keep the video off of Facebook. Perhaps just start a thread asking if anyone is missing them.

Thatnameistaken · 26/03/2022 13:32

What area are you in, 2 rabbits were stolen in the north east overnight? Had a distraught owner on a local Facebook group

VisaQuestions · 26/03/2022 13:33

I’d probably put it on Facebook saying
‘two rabbits left in my garden, could they be yours? Please see picture below and message me if you were expecting a friend or family member to take them to you’

Obviously with any very good concrete proof I’d not be giving them to anyone, but it would prompt a reaction online and locally

SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2022 13:33

Well she knows your address and on the face of it is a dick, so I probably wouldn't. I could speak to RSPCA tho

Silverclocks · 26/03/2022 13:33

Rather than "name and shame" maybe post the footage and ask if anyone nows her or why she may have left rabbits in your garden.

I'd guess it's a case of wrong address.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 26/03/2022 13:34

Yeah sorry for not being clear. The 2 rabbits were in what I assume is little travel cage. It's about the size of a cat basket. She's just leaned over the gate and left them there.

I don't know her no. I'm the only house for a bit so it's possible she thought they were escaped from here I guess. They appear to be in good health, they friendly enough so it's all a bit bizarre.

I'll ring the RSPCA but I've not found them the most useful undertstatement in the past.

OP posts:
SamphiretheStickerist · 26/03/2022 13:34

I'd do both in one post. Post the video, ask her what she thought she was doing and then ask if anyone has lost them could contact you to come and pick them up because your cats are being cats...

crosstalk · 26/03/2022 13:37

If you must go on FB don't post the video.

Just say "someone put two rabbits in a cage in my garden. Incompatible with my cats. Any rabbit enthusiast want them? - if not will contact RSPCA or animals shelter. I have video of the person who either gifted them to me or thought I owned them."

SevenWaystoLeave · 26/03/2022 13:37

If this is a case of her dumping her rabbits, there's a possibility RSPCA could prosecute - which could be scuppered if you share the footage publicly in advance and prejudice the case.

MarthaFokker · 26/03/2022 13:37

Before ringing the RSPCA, surely you'll be asking if anyone's missing them?

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 26/03/2022 13:38

Well you are all diffusing my annoyance with your reasonable suggestions which is quite irritating 😀

I shall follow a reasonable suggestion and post a picture of the pair of them and ask if anyone has lost them

OP posts:
PintOfBovril · 26/03/2022 13:39

Oh they were in a cage!? How odd. Yeh sounds like a dump and run job.
Probably still wouldn't post her pic though, like PP said she might come back with more!

SevenWaystoLeave · 26/03/2022 13:39

@crosstalk

If you must go on FB don't post the video.

Just say "someone put two rabbits in a cage in my garden. Incompatible with my cats. Any rabbit enthusiast want them? - if not will contact RSPCA or animals shelter. I have video of the person who either gifted them to me or thought I owned them."

OP, please don't just give the rabbits away to anyone yourself, contact the RSPCA or local animal rescue who will be able to do health checks, neuter if not done already, check for microchips in case they are stolen (unlikely but not impossible), and who will have a process for responsible rehoming.
