I've come home to 2 terrified rabbits sitting in a cage in my garden. The bloody things were surrounded by the billion cats that live here who are fascinated.

I've relocated them to a very old rickety hutch from when we had rabbits a million years ago and chucked them some hay, carrots and water and told the DSs at least 72 times that we are not keeping them whilst they fight over names.

CCTV shows a woman dropping them over the gate. She obviously didn't realise I've got CCTV and I have a nice clear view of her face.

I mean I clearly won't be returning the rabbits but WIBU to stick her on Facebook in a "what the hell were you doing" post?

OP posts:
dworky · 26/03/2022 13:43

@PintOfBovril

They may have escaped and she thought she was doing a 'good turn' by popping them back? Shaming people on Facebook is a bit extreme isn't it? Can't we just get annoyed privately these days?
Don't be ridiculous. Why would she randomly think OP had lost rabbits & then return them without a word?
Whitefire · 26/03/2022 13:49

Did she think you were an animal rescue with the "billions of cats" ?

Mia184 · 26/03/2022 13:53

I would post on a local Facebook group that a woman dumped two rabbits in a carrier on your property and that the rabbits along with the CCTV have gone to the RSPCA.

Mooster62 · 26/03/2022 13:54

I would shame her on FB and call a local animal rescue. There us no way anyone would just put two rabbits in a hutch over the fen e. If she thought they were yours she would knock on the door like a normal person. She might of stolen them or wanted to just get rid of them...either way it was cruel, you might not have been an animal lover and might have fed them to your dogs. Slight exaggeration!

UsernameInTheTown · 26/03/2022 13:54

Aw just in time for Easter! Grin

DogInATent · 26/03/2022 13:55

Unless you know her name, you can't name and shame her?

You could put it on Youtube with the message, "Trying to find the woman who put these two rabbits over my fence for safekeeping. I've moved them to somewhere safer, if she could kindly get in touch"

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 26/03/2022 13:56

Well you are all diffusing my annoyance with your reasonable suggestions which is quite irritating don't you just hate that? 🤣

I wouldn't expose her, no, but if you know who she I would drop her a message and ask her about it.

Yanbu for feeling so annoyed though

DogInATent · 26/03/2022 13:56

^ Facebook, not Youtube

Lavenderlid · 26/03/2022 13:57

I'd contact 101, they are sentient beings and you can't just abandon them like that! Did she have sight of the hutch in your garden and think you'd be a safe bet?
What an idiot.
(You know you'll end up keeping them, don't you)

Boxowine · 26/03/2022 14:01

This is fodder for the local Facebook group and not only would I put it up if it happened to me, I would avidly follow if someone else put it up on our page. Post away!

Gilly12345 · 26/03/2022 14:03

Hope you get this rabbit situation sorted soon one way or another.

I just love Mumsnet some of the comments make my day, brilliant entertainment. 😀😀😀😀😀😀

Ingles2 · 26/03/2022 14:07

do you not think this is a case of mistaken house? She's going away, left them with someone to look after? or returning them after they've been looked after?
just post on FB asking if someone is missing their rabbits... doesn't need to be a huge deal.

Tortabella · 26/03/2022 14:16

I would go passive aggressive/dumb.

Ie. Thank you to this good samaritan for leaving these rabbits in my back garden. However we are not missing them and would love you to get in touch so we can get them back to their owner.

Cindie943811A · 26/03/2022 14:18

Some people can be really gullible. As if anyone who had one iota of care for these rabbits would have left them like that. Rabbits in cages are regularly predated by foxes and dogs. She had no way of knowing how long it would be before the OP found and rescued the pets. In fact some might just release them.

Good idea. With the footage.

That seems highly unlikely don’t you think? If you’ve arranged to leave pets with someone you’d (a) ring their doorbell like a normal person and (b) no where they lived.
lightisnotwhite · 26/03/2022 14:20

I think she’s got your house muddled with someone else.

HaggisBurger · 26/03/2022 14:21

*know 😂

oakleaffy · 26/03/2022 14:21

@SevenWaystoLeave

I'd contact the RSPCA and hand the footage to them
This.

Sadly rabbits are a pet that people get bored of fast.
Especially children.

As house rabbits for adults they work well.

Bunnies kick hard and don’t like being handled much

Rabbits get maggoty fast in dirty hutches-
Sounds like they landed on their feet with you!

Good luck

Beware of foxes, too.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/03/2022 14:23

Poor bunnies! At least she left them in a closed cage, I suppose, but yeah - must have been scary for them!

I agree your best bet would be to ask if anyone has lost these 2 rabbits, as they were erroneously placed in your garden and were nearly cat food. I'm not sure I'd post the pictures though - maybe a vague description - and whoever contacts you (if they do) would need to describe them better to be sure that they are an actual owner, and not some random. I mean, they could have been stolen ( less likely unless it's a grudge thing), or it could have been a mum who was sick of looking after them and maybe the kids (if they're old enough) would want them back - I don't know.

Echobelly · 26/03/2022 14:25

Yes, I agree with others to assume the best rather than the worst - maybe they'd been dumped and someone assumed they belonged to your house? Because it would be embarrassing if you named and shamed someone for just trying to do a good deed.

Babyroobs · 26/03/2022 14:26

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

Yeah sorry for not being clear. The 2 rabbits were in what I assume is little travel cage. It's about the size of a cat basket. She's just leaned over the gate and left them there.

I don't know her no. I'm the only house for a bit so it's possible she thought they were escaped from here I guess. They appear to be in good health, they friendly enough so it's all a bit bizarre.

I'll ring the RSPCA but I've not found them the most useful undertstatement in the past.

Could she be leaving them for someone and got the wrong house?? I mean it's odd to just leave them without knocking on the door, but maybe she had arranged it with someone and got the wrong place? Otherwise it's very bizarre.
Silversprinkles · 26/03/2022 14:27

@crosstalk

If you must go on FB don't post the video.

Just say "someone put two rabbits in a cage in my garden. Incompatible with my cats. Any rabbit enthusiast want them? - if not will contact RSPCA or animals shelter. I have video of the person who either gifted them to me or thought I owned them."

This ^
nomoremsniceperson · 26/03/2022 14:32

Although I think her actions were abhorrent, I'm not sure this compulsion humanity has developed to immediately publicly shame others for wrongdoing is healthy. You can report her to the relevant authorities (police, animal welfare) or confront her personally without bringing the wrath of the mob down on her or shaming her in front of everyone she knows. There are ways to hold a person accountable for poor behaviour without ruining their reputation. She may have been desperate for reasons you are not privy to and felt that you would take care of the animals. If she didn't care about them at all, she probably would have just released them into the wild.
