I've come home to 2 terrified rabbits sitting in a cage in my garden. The bloody things were surrounded by the billion cats that live here who are fascinated.

I've relocated them to a very old rickety hutch from when we had rabbits a million years ago and chucked them some hay, carrots and water and told the DSs at least 72 times that we are not keeping them whilst they fight over names.

CCTV shows a woman dropping them over the gate. She obviously didn't realise I've got CCTV and I have a nice clear view of her face.

I mean I clearly won't be returning the rabbits but WIBU to stick her on Facebook in a "what the hell were you doing" post?

OP posts:
TroysMammy · 26/03/2022 17:17

@Notanotherwindow and handily had a carrier to pop the rabbits in with her?

NewYorkCityDreamer · 26/03/2022 17:18

Aww I hope they find a lovely home whether it’s with you or someone else

RunningFromInsanity · 26/03/2022 17:22

You need to sex them ASAP and a separate if they are male/female or you’re going to have lots more than two bunnies…

orio · 26/03/2022 17:23

@LBFseBrom

Cats don't hurt rabbits for goodness sake, it's natural for them to be fascinated but no harm is intended.

I had a rabbit and cats; one of my cats formed an attachment to the rabbit, it was really sweet, they ran around playing together. Unfortunately it all ended when the rabbit tried to mate with my cat.

Foxes will prey on a rabbit but if the hutch is secure, it will be all right.

Ummm, and I mean this how it sounds. Are you an idiot? Of course cats hurt rabbits Hmm
TroysMammy · 26/03/2022 17:23

Rabbits can hurt cat's though. My dwarf lop regularly terrorised my cat. When they died of natural causes at different times I buried the cat far away from the rabbit's grave.

DomesticatedZombie · 26/03/2022 17:27

@LaraDeSalle

Maybe she was from ‘Just Eat’ and as you weren’t in she left them over the fence in a safe place. Those drivers are always in a hurry.

Who dumps rabbits over a fence without even a word to the homeowner? Some one wanting rid or has stolen them that's who. Post the whole video on FB asking who and why has someone done this. I find that FB is the quickest way to figure a problem like this out. Why protect someone who does that? And if it is innocent then it will get resolved.

balalake · 26/03/2022 17:30

Talk to the RSPCA. They may know if this woman has done this before, and also may take them in.

Sillyotter · 26/03/2022 17:49

Not many people chip them but always worth finding a vets that’s open to check

Daffodils22 · 26/03/2022 17:49

The more I think about this post the more I wonder if it is the case of an mistake (wrong address)

Daffodils22 · 26/03/2022 17:54

@VisaQuestions

I’d probably put it on Facebook saying ‘two rabbits left in my garden, could they be yours? Please see picture below and message me if you were expecting a friend or family member to take them to you’

Obviously with any very good concrete proof I’d not be giving them to anyone, but it would prompt a reaction online and locally

I’d be reluctant to post a pic if someone genuinely claims then you would need to get them to tell you what colour they are to know they are really their rabbits
LowlandLucky · 26/03/2022 18:00

Far too cute and i would just have to keep them.

TheArtfulBlogger · 26/03/2022 18:06

Well I don't think the op was at home when they were delivered, as she said she'd come home to find them. So the woman may or may not have knocked.

TBH whether she knocked or not (and she didnt according to the OP and CCTV) is not really the point lol. Who would leave 2 rabbits in someone's garden not knowing what would happen to them?

Even if she knocked, no one was home what idiot would just leave them there?? OP may have gone away and the poor little things would have been left in the carrier for days!

So either way, whether it was the wrong house, or they were dumped, the woman is disgraceful for leaving them there with no contact with the householder

2Gen · 26/03/2022 18:10

@SevenWaystoLeave

I'd contact the RSPCA and hand the footage to them
This! YANBU to be annoyed about it OP but it would BU to shame her on FB without finding out the full story first. Report it to the RSPCA and let them deal with yer one. If she's guilty of dumping them on you, they'll be able to put the police onto her.
Unsureaboutit9 · 26/03/2022 18:11

They are so cute! But I’d delete your nice friendly post off Facebook, makes it too easy for anyone to come forward and claim them just to use them for dog bait or something.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/03/2022 18:16

@LBFseBrom

On first reading I thought you meant a woman was dropping cats over your gate. My bad. I see you mean she dropped rabbits over your gate - odd thing to do but it takes all sorts.

Don't 'name and shame', that's vindictive. If you don't want to keep the rabbits there must be refuges for them somewhere in your vicinity. They are, however, surprisingly cheap and easy to keep and quite docile pets. Get your family to muck in with the cleaning of the hutch and research the correct diet for your rabbits. Bless.

You should expect a pair of rabbits to cost at least £6,500 - £9,000 over their lifetimes

This is the minimum amount you’ll need to spend to meet your rabbits’ welfare needs. Your rabbits might need lots of health care or you might decide to spend more on them which will increase the cost involved – they could be as high as £30,000 !

From the PDSA website

They are not cheap pets ad are considered to be as complex as a cat .
Too many end up abandoned or neglected because people believe they are "great pets for the kiddies ".

My DD and I kept guinea-pigs (they have specific needs too) I knew that I didn't know enough about rabbits to keep rabbits .

AllOfUsAreDead · 26/03/2022 18:19

I wouldnt post the footage, but I would pass it to the rspca as what they've done is a criminal offence. I'd post that the footage has been sent to the rspca along with the rabbits, so that the twat that did it starts panicking.

It's most likely they've been abandoned. Who happens to have a cage in their car that they are happy to pick up rabbits in and leave it at some random house? Surely if they found the rabbits outside, they'd put them in the garden and leave. They've been abandoned.

SameToo · 26/03/2022 18:26

Dying to know what happened here.

There was a random one on fb where someone had a dead bat posted through their door which was a case of getting the wrong address.

KimikosNightmare · 26/03/2022 18:28

@Echobelly

Yes, I agree with others to assume the best rather than the worst - maybe they'd been dumped and someone assumed they belonged to your house? Because it would be embarrassing if you named and shamed someone for just trying to do a good deed.
I would assume the worst.
OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 26/03/2022 18:30

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

I'm not going to go all gung ho on Facebook. I was just annoyed. I'd come in harassed, we've dealt with a literal ton of fly tipping this week, and then I nearly tripped over the pair of them because I wasn't looking. I've chilled a bit now and I admit they kind of cute.

I've posted saying we've had 2 rabbits left at house in error anyone missing any. All polite and cheery on the outside with a seething centre on the inside lol.

I'm currently still saying they not staying but I am sitting in the garden watching them explore the run I've just borrowed from chap down road and am treating myself to a a cup of tea and a KitKat.

DS2 wants to call them Stew and Pot - he thinks he's hilarious. DS1 wants to call the brown one Choco and will conceded to pot for the other.

It's been ages since we've had rabbits. We'd have to make them a pen and all the bloody front is artifical grass now. They'd either have to go in the field or we'd have to returf some of the front.

Stew and Pot ...amazing Wink
iloveeverykindofcat · 26/03/2022 18:33

Aw....they're cute.

It turns out rabbits are a lot more work than most people think. My friend took one on because her cousin was neglecting it (gotten for the kids, kids lost interest, rabbit relegated to tiny hutch and regularly barked at by dog). They ended up getting him a girlfriend and the pair of them lived another 8 years in her conservatory and garden. I was surprised by a) how much work they were and b) how much personality he had, especially the boy. I suppose I thought rabbits didn't do much, but no, he was a real character.

RandomMess · 26/03/2022 18:33

They are adorable

Bunnyfuller · 26/03/2022 18:41

What have you called them?

Flippanty · 26/03/2022 18:44

The naivety of some people is shocking! Of course she was dumping them. This is very common thing for people who can’t be bothered/are too embarrassed to bring them to rescue centres or if rescue centres are full. They will leave them in some random person’s garden and let them deal with it. I know someone, albeit not in the UK, who had a full sized labrador thrown over a high fence into their garden. It’s despicable behaviour.
