I've come home to 2 terrified rabbits sitting in a cage in my garden. The bloody things were surrounded by the billion cats that live here who are fascinated.

I've relocated them to a very old rickety hutch from when we had rabbits a million years ago and chucked them some hay, carrots and water and told the DSs at least 72 times that we are not keeping them whilst they fight over names.

CCTV shows a woman dropping them over the gate. She obviously didn't realise I've got CCTV and I have a nice clear view of her face.

I mean I clearly won't be returning the rabbits but WIBU to stick her on Facebook in a "what the hell were you doing" post?

Hmm. Think the bunnies may have found an owner. Especially now that you have the run, and names.
Would be very tempted to keep them if not claimed.

Coffeepot72 · 26/03/2022 18:54

Not everything needs to go on FB - I would definitely contact the RSPCA though

DixonD · 26/03/2022 19:02

@LBFseBrom

Cats don't hurt rabbits for goodness sake, it's natural for them to be fascinated but no harm is intended.

I had a rabbit and cats; one of my cats formed an attachment to the rabbit, it was really sweet, they ran around playing together. Unfortunately it all ended when the rabbit tried to mate with my cat.

Foxes will prey on a rabbit but if the hutch is secure, it will be all right.

Same! My young cat loves to jump in the run with my bunnies and run around (and sleep!) with them.

Having said that, I did have cat that would bring wild baby bunnies in sometimes, but only small ones. I can’t see many cats tackling a fully grown rabbit.

Marmite17 · 26/03/2022 19:07

Agree that it's wrong to dump pets.
However the rabbits would need rehoming and look so cosy. Perhaps let the young people who've named them take responsibility? Under your supervision?
Could be fate.

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 26/03/2022 19:10

Oooh I would. I would also contact the police and the rspca as others have advised. The post would be advising her to come forward as the police etc have been informed

This isn't always true. Neighbors cat managed to drag one still alive through the cat flap once. I make sure she can't get anywhere near mine.

Riapia · 26/03/2022 19:29

I’d have picked the cage up and put them back over the gate.
Not your circus etc.

Annabell46 · 26/03/2022 19:29

I would google local rescue places for rabbits and hope they will take them in and find good homes

Lucky that the poor little rabbits weren't dumped in your garden then and that they found someone compassionate.
BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 26/03/2022 19:36

Well I've had a response to the Facebook Post but I'm sceptical.

A woman has responded to me to say she thinks they might have been her rabbits. She has no photos though. She rehomed them last week as she has moved to a flat with no garden. She rehomed them to a friend of a friend of a friend who already has rabbits. She's spoken to this friend who has said that they were fighting with his existing rabbits so he had to put them in a temp hutch which they must have escaped from as he came home and they were gone. He did look but no sign so he assumed they been killed/picked up by someone. (This place is 5 miles away) Due to the fighting (one of his badly hurt) he decided it was best to leave them gone. Woman very upset about it. Chap she rehomed to doesn't want them back she doesn't want them to go to him or have them back herself. She doesn't know who dropped them over the gate. Conversation currently at the point where she is saying she doesn't know what to do as rescues full and she can't have them...

I mean they likely to be staying here but it just seems unlikely that they escaped and either hopped 5 miles or someone found them and decided to deliver them 5 miles.... it's also convenient that she tried to be super responsible with the rehoming and the guy just happened to be a complete jerk but yet not enough of a jerk to drop them in someone's garden.

Really? You would let two poor bunnies potentially die because it’s “not your circus”
MuggleMadness · 26/03/2022 19:41

They're too cute for words!!

I would (even though I wouldn't want to) post on Facebook (without pictures) to ask if anyone's rabbits were missing & say 2 had been dumped in your garden today.

I'd make anyone claiming them show me photos first.

I'd also call the local police to say you're concerned about the MH of a woman & wondered if she was known to them. As someone else has mentioned, people planning to end their life sometimes do stuff like this if they don't have a better option (or think they don't).

I don't like stew & pot though 😡they'd have to come up with something nicer than that!

LittleWins · 26/03/2022 19:51

That response is so weird. The number of details smells of BS and even if true she’s not being helpful anyway.

Very cute bunnies. I’m glad they ended up with you at least.

Febrier · 26/03/2022 19:51

Does she look like the woman on the CCTV?

EatYourVegetables · 26/03/2022 19:52

How about Choco and Pop instead of Choco and Pot?

LittleBear21 · 26/03/2022 19:56

I quite like Choco and Pot. Would make you wonder how that combo came about.

As PP said, does the FB woman look like the CCTV woman?

WonderfulYou · 26/03/2022 19:57

Conversation currently at the point where she is saying she doesn't know what to do as rescues full and she can't have them...

Does she look like the women in the CCTV? I’m betting it’s her.

Honestly it sounds like your DCs are already in love and you sound like you’d give them a great home.
I’d be tempted to keep them.
The Easter bunnies have definitely visited your house this year.

WonderfulYou · 26/03/2022 19:59

I also think stew and pot are the most hilarious names I’ve ever heard of Grin

I would be fuming that someone would do this but I’d take it as a compliment that they obviously think you’d look after them.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 26/03/2022 20:08

I can't see if it's the same person. Her Facebook profile is completely locked down and her profile pic is not her its a picture of a TV show.

I don't believe the story at all and I'm the most gullible person out there.

OP posts:
Newjobformoremoney · 26/03/2022 20:13

Sorry OP, you’re clearly keeping the rabbit and I’m certain you’re going to make sure the rest of their lives they are loved and well cared for.
I love pot and stew (sorry!)
You seem like a lovely rabbit mum!

Bussinbussin · 26/03/2022 20:14

Maybe call her bluff?

'That's interesting, it was a woman who dumped them at my house. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this! I have clear CCTV of her face, I'll pop that up on FB and see if anyone recognises her.'

StScholastica · 26/03/2022 20:16

My only concern is the woman might be the victim of domestic abuse and is getting rid of them before her abuser does something even worse to them?

Honeyroar · 26/03/2022 20:31

Well that was quite a story she came up with! I bet it was her. I’d tell her you’ve passed the footage onto the RSPCA, and they’ve said they’ll investigate who the woman was as it was a cruel thing to do. Let her sweat.

It was a horrible, stressful thing to do to the rabbits, particularly in hot weather.

I’d have no qualms putting the video on Facebook personally. Nobody with more than three brain cells would leave rabbits that they were delivering to someone, or returning to someone they thought had lost them without checking they were at the right place, nor would they leave the rabbits in a pet carrier unattended (because it’s dangerous and scary for the rabbits).

To the person who says cats won’t harm rabbits, my cat caught a wild rabbit and killed it (not very nicely either🙁)

And to whoever says it’s cheap to keep rabbits - I’ve just had a £700 vets bill for my two this year. As for easy - i muck out a barrow of straw a week from my rabbits. That’s 1/7 of what I take out of my horse’s stables!!

Anyway, hopefully these two lucky buns have found a new home. I think your lady sussed out you have had bunnies before and thought they stood a chance of a good home with you.

AllOfUsAreDead · 26/03/2022 20:35

What @Bussinbussin said. Call her bluff, she is likely lying. Or friend request her and see if she is stupid enough to accept. You can then see her photos.

Strangeways19 · 26/03/2022 20:38

They are too cute. I'd definitely keep them.

They are definitely lying though about how they got into your garden...
