Is DH BIU- to talk with DSIL about planned baby name

DSIL is 34 weeks pregnant with first DC.
A few weeks ago her and her DP announced the planned baby name.
The actual 'sound' of the name is fine, but it is heavily associated with something which DSIL and her DP were not really aware of. They have been made aware of the association since (as it's pretty common knowledge- not sure how they hadn't heard of it tbh!) but are of the opinion most people won't make the association. DH and I are of the other opinion that most people will definitely make the association, it's not a good association, and genuinely worry that it's not fair to give a baby that name and it's fully possible it could lead to bullying when older.

Whilst DP and strongly agree on the huge issue with the name and agree it's unfair to lumbar a baby with it, I don't think DH should say anything. DH thinks he should have a proper talk with her about his concerns on the name and why he doesn't think it's fair to give to a DN. I think nothing good will come and we should stay quiet.

(So far we have said very little about it. We were notably shocked when told what it was, and clarified 'X' as in X'?? But other than that have nodded and smiled).

I think that unless they’ve made up the name (E.g. they decided that Viagra was a suitable name for a girl as it’s a cross between Violet and Allegra) you should just give your opinion once, as others have said, and let them get on with it. Not your Circus, not your monkeys!

Jihad isn't a negative word in Arabic - it means striving for a worthy goal. A lot of non-Arabic speakers stereotypically (and maybe with a little racism/Islamophobia in mind) interpret that as something against western values, but it really isn't.

'Busy' is a not-unheard-of name, especially in the USA, and would be equally neutral - you would neither assume it automatically means that the person with that name is busy nursing poorly baby kittens back to health or busy planting bombs everywhere. You could be busy/striving at something amazingly good, unspeakably bad or (more likely) relatively mundane.

I'd still be rather surprised at white Brian & Linda Blenkinsop from Norfolk calling their child 'Jihad', though (or indeed Mohammed - the single most common name in the world).

If one my siblings was choosing a bad name for a child I would intervene. Have a proper talk and let them know my concern. I can't see why you think your partner shouldn't do something that would avoid so much future difficulties in a child life.
I think even the registry office won't allow some names

It’s not uncommon in Turkey where it’s rendered Cengiz so you didn’t notice it was the same name.

Well if they go ahead with Genghis, hopefully it gets shortened to something innocuous like Gus.

Maybe they could use something bland for a middle name, then the poor boy can alway just use that.

What works as a middle name for Genghis though..?
