Is DH BIU- to talk with DSIL about planned baby name

fringely · 26/03/2022 10:40

DSIL is 34 weeks pregnant with first DC.
A few weeks ago her and her DP announced the planned baby name.
The actual 'sound' of the name is fine, but it is heavily associated with something which DSIL and her DP were not really aware of. They have been made aware of the association since (as it's pretty common knowledge- not sure how they hadn't heard of it tbh!) but are of the opinion most people won't make the association. DH and I are of the other opinion that most people will definitely make the association, it's not a good association, and genuinely worry that it's not fair to give a baby that name and it's fully possible it could lead to bullying when older.

Whilst DP and strongly agree on the huge issue with the name and agree it's unfair to lumbar a baby with it, I don't think DH should say anything. DH thinks he should have a proper talk with her about his concerns on the name and why he doesn't think it's fair to give to a DN. I think nothing good will come and we should stay quiet.

(So far we have said very little about it. We were notably shocked when told what it was, and clarified 'X' as in X'?? But other than that have nodded and smiled).

@dejacqueray

Oh come on, tell us the name
Read the thread!! She already has.
dejacqueray · 27/03/2022 17:44

Sorry, I didn't catch on. The baby is going to be called X ?

dejacqueray · 27/03/2022 17:48

Oh bloody hell I'm having a real senior moment. sorry folks - I've got it now! The baby is going to be called Ghengis, yes? (After X that sounds quite reasonable!)

lioncitygirl · 27/03/2022 17:51

Lucifer?

HELLITHURT · 27/03/2022 17:54

@lioncitygirl

Lucifer?
Its apparently Genghis!
amusedbush · 27/03/2022 17:54

@fringely

Ok I'm kinda done here. The name is Genghis.
Aside from the connotations, it's a fucking hideous name. So ugly.

I can't fathom why anyone would want to saddle a baby with that!

tommyhoundmum · 27/03/2022 17:54

It's Boris, isn't it?

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/03/2022 17:57

@dejacqueray

Sorry, I didn't catch on. The baby is going to be called X ?
Hmm can you not find the op’s post?
Romney981 · 27/03/2022 17:59

I knew someone called Jihad, he asked people to call him Jee. I bet that's it.

ChloeHel · 27/03/2022 18:02

Read the thread!! Or at least read OP’s post!! OP has announced the name, you can stop guessing.

YorkshireRog · 27/03/2022 18:04

Well, I dunno but I know a Madeleine, and I know an Isis who are just little girls. And they are their own people and doing ok. I think it is hard once you mention a name as everyone has opinions on it. But for every name you know with a connotation, or a person that doesn’t you didn’t like who had the same name… well there is someone with the same name who is just fine. It has been said but I reckon just let the child be their own person now. L

Mollymoostoo · 27/03/2022 18:05

Please God not Lucifer Hmm

Moll2020 · 27/03/2022 18:13

It’s so sad that the name Karen has been associated with the type of person often seen on YT and other social media sites.

HestersSamplerofCarrots · 27/03/2022 18:14

They cannot name him Genghis.

Yes. Your husband should absolutely talk to his brother.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/03/2022 18:17

To derail slightly, we had Biff, Chip & Kipper on CBeebies earlier (nothing wrong with any of those three names for a child, obvs Grin), and they credited the writer of the books - Roderick Hunt.

Firstly, why did his parents not think for just a few moments; and secondly, if anybody out there called Roderick has a cast iron reason to ask to be called/known as Rod or Roddie, it has to be him!! I just hope he doesn't live in Wales, as people would quite literally think that his actual name was Rhodri C... !!

Genghis is better than bukkake at least 😂 but yeah it's not great!

Hertsgirl10 · 27/03/2022 18:21

Is their last name west and they like rose?

I would probably say something if it’s along those lines.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/03/2022 18:22

I’m actually in the market for a controversial name at the moment as expecting our first born this Easter, WIBU for you to DM me the name your DSIL is thinking?

But why? If you want to make things unnecessarily difficulty and unpleasant for your child going through life, you may as well just call him/her Crappy Poo Pants and be done with it.

As the old MN trope goes, you're perfectly at liberty to find a terrible, embarrassing and/or inappropriate name and change your own name to it at any time....

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/03/2022 18:23

*difficult

tommyhoundmum · 27/03/2022 18:24

Oh no, not Genghis. My Afghan Hound was called that.

BellePeppa · 27/03/2022 18:26

@Thankyoupeter

I know we aren't supposed to be guessing but I think it might be Lucifer too. Tricky one as a really nice name and I would think there are a few about on the back of the TV show.
Mick Jagger has a son called Lucifer. I admit I was a bit horrified and I’m not even religious (but brought up catholic, hence the horror).
Zwellers · 27/03/2022 18:26

IVFConfusion no one is asking you to. My question is can't you understand the likelihoopotenrial of a adverse reaction to the name swastikas in a European culture due to thier appropriation by the the nazis Or are deliberately trying to be obtuse, or just racist.

Lurking9to5 · 27/03/2022 18:27

Why would they do that to their child! They're mad, but what can you do?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/03/2022 18:28

Genghis is better than bukkake at least 😂 but yeah it's not great!

I have to admit, my eyebrows shot right up to the ceiling the first time I read about the Buteyko method in a mainstream publication. It's a respected alternative therapeutic technique to help people regulate their breathing, named after its Ukrainian inventor; but, shamefully, my mind made a slightly inappropriate misconnection....
