Mine are:
“We are pregnant” when only one of the couple is physically pregnant
and
“It is what it is”

At the end of the day.

At this moment in time

Cakecakecheese · 21/03/2022 20:21

I saw your thread title and the first thing that I thought of was 'It is what it is'.

bathshebaeverbusy · 21/03/2022 20:21

Can I get …. ( not please may I have )

5128gap · 21/03/2022 20:23

'My bad'

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 21/03/2022 20:23

See you later,or even worse, laters, when the person has no intention of seeing me later.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 21/03/2022 20:25

Cluster feeding.
Sets my teeth on edge.

Snog · 21/03/2022 20:25

"Not gonna lie"

BlueBeeSpots · 21/03/2022 20:25

‘I was/we were on cloud nine’

I really don’t know why it annoys me so much, but it makes me roll my eyes every time I read/hear it

JazzyBBG · 21/03/2022 20:28

Anything with the word "folks" in.

moretrumpetplease · 21/03/2022 20:29

I heard an absolute cracker on a zoom call earlier, that I've heard no other human utter before: "is that a legacy hand?" - in reference to someone who still had their "hand up" after a question had been answered. Worst thing I've heard in a while 😂

wouldHAVEshouldHAVEcouldHAVE · 21/03/2022 20:32

‘As it were’

DH keeps saying this lately and it’s making me want to put something bad in his tea. I think someone he knows must say it and he has picked it up and now uses it at every opportunity- sometimes twice in one section of talking.

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/03/2022 20:33

I'm not being funny

We've been asking about legacy hands for months on my Teams calls! I announced sometime ago that The Legacy Hands would be backing band when I launch my singing career
threecupsofteaminimum · 21/03/2022 20:36

Cool beans - makes me shudder.

Ffsmakeitstop · 21/03/2022 20:37

Boobing. It's absolutely awful luckily I've never heard it irl only on MN but if I did I would have to say something.
Definitely"we are pregnant" no you're not.

PolytheneRam · 21/03/2022 20:37

Same difference.

CovidCanDoOne123 · 21/03/2022 20:37

You do you

pigsDOfly · 21/03/2022 20:38

I tend to get annoyed by phrases that make no sense because bits have been lopped off the original expression.

One I hear frequently is: 'The proof is in the pudding', which makes no sense. The saying is actually 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating', in other words you have to get to the bottom of the thing before you can understand or see the result.

And my real hatred is one I hear very often and have even read in several modern books: 'He was running along nine to the dozen'. It's an expression that is supposed to indicate that someone is moving around in a mad rush.

The correct expression is, of course, 'nineteen to the dozen', indicating that the person is massively speeding up. Nine to the dozen would mean that the person is actually slowing down.

I sometimes think a lot of people don't actually listen to the words that are coming from their own mouths.

NameChangeCity123 · 21/03/2022 20:38

It's been such an emotional rollercoaster

I've been on such a journey

Ooh - that’s bloody brilliant - love it and am going to use it
Cheeserton · 21/03/2022 20:39

Wow, legacy hand... That's awful.

‘throwing shade’

UserError012345 · 21/03/2022 20:40

Ha. I'm always saying 'it is what it is'

Mine is famalam. Not a phrase but still really irritates me.

Yep - I say ‘it is what it is’ and ‘we are where we are’.
