Mine are:
“We are pregnant” when only one of the couple is physically pregnant
and
“It is what it is”

"Much needed"

FluffyScarves · 21/03/2022 22:35

These are unprecedented times. Angry

Techno56 · 21/03/2022 22:35

I know it's not a phrase but people who do loud, exaggerated yawning make me want to rip my ears off so I no longer have to hear their attention seeking.

Had a house guest over the weekend from Friday afternoon til this morning and had to suffer this incessantly and it made me so full of rage I went to bed at 20:40 last night to escape. They then followed upstairs and continued with theatrical yawns for another half hour or so. I put earplugs in. Even the thought of it now is making me cringe. Ugh.

steff13 · 21/03/2022 22:36

"Shit hot." What a disgusting phrase.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 21/03/2022 22:36

Oh my days.

L0stinCyberspace · 21/03/2022 22:37

'Everything happens for a reason'...usually said by a fuckwit dismissing the pain a person is grappling with and just superimposes belief in some kind of divine plan working in your favour eventually. Also said to me after a miscarriage.

'Does that make sense'...said repeatedly by senior managers to us plebs as if we are all suffering with comprehension issues.

'Cheeky Nando's' grrrr

'Making memories' sounds like performances to garner praise.

Wheniruletheworld · 21/03/2022 22:38

@Spanielsarepainless

Passed, instead of died. Passed what? An exam? A turd? A signpost? A parked car?
Oh yes! Cemetaries rarely contain people who have died, mainly those who have passed, who 'fell asleep', were born sleeping, or at eternal rest.

@Hoplesscynic

"Wants to have his cake and eat it" - What point is there in having a cake but NOT eat it? Makes 0 sense to me. "Gets on my tits" "Big girl pants"

Also second PPs on "I'm not being funny"/"I say it like it is". Had a colleague who used to say that a lot. Sure enough she was NOT funny and anything she said was mean/rude/impolite. But everyone was always excusing her BS with "That's just Mary, she doesn't mean anything" (also annoying phrase).

The point of the cake is that the person wants to eat it all and still have the cake in their hand. Like a kid who eats all their sweets immediately then gets angry they don’t have any sweets left. Or an employee who takes all their holiday at once then moans they don’t have any holiday leave/phones in sick for a day off because they don’t have holiday leave.

I hate ‘fully flexible’ and ‘team player.’ When I see those in job interviews they almost always want full flexibility over the week for about 6 hours work, with no thought for how they can be flexible for the employee. I’ve also heard one recently which is ‘holding space’ but I’m not 100% sure what it actually means. It seems to basically mean someone’s annoyed you and you want to make as big a fuss over it as possible.

Yamyam13 · 21/03/2022 22:38

“Gorgeous”

Generally all use of the word makes me shudder and cringe - but in particular when describing food or worse, a person’s.

“He was being so gorgeous that day”
“These strawberries are gorgeous”
“We had a gorgeous day” 🤢

2 of my best friends use it constantly and have no idea after 20 years that the other 2 of us HATE it 😂

TheNoodlesIncident · 21/03/2022 22:39

"Wants to have his cake and eat it" - What point is there in having a cake but NOT eat it? Makes 0 sense to me.

@Hoplesscynic The phrase actually means "To eat your cake and still have it". You can't do both; you either keep it or eat it, but once you've eaten it it's gone. So the phrase refers to someone wanting it both ways when it's not possible.

I hate when people on here say "nip it in the bud", usually about someone else's bad or CF behaviour. Nipping in the bud is a reference to early blossom being stopped/killed by frost while the flower is still a bud, so it never opens. You can't say it accurately about something that's been going on for months, you just can't. If someone did something untoward and you stopped it quickly and smartly before it happened again, that's nipping it in the bud!

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 21/03/2022 22:41

"Moving forward" (Can't go back in time can we?!)
"Amazing" "perfect" (in response to giving my name or equally basic information 🙄)
Being called "Lovely"

catswhisker1 · 21/03/2022 22:42

'For sure.' Just say yes.

foxlover47 · 21/03/2022 22:42

"The boy done good " ... when the "boy " has brought some ultra naff gifts and is in his later 30's

vitahelp · 21/03/2022 22:42

“Can I pick your brains?”

I always think of it very literally and it makes me feel ill!!

whichiswitch · 21/03/2022 22:44

Any more for any more

Used in practically every team meeting at work. Senior manager started it and then the middle managers started

Smokeahontas · 21/03/2022 22:45

‘Making memories’ makes my fucking teeth itch.

LabradorFiasco · 21/03/2022 22:49

“Ultra naff gifts” - so accurate Grin

I personally hate “pregnant people” and “birthing people”. Just say women!

SevernEleven · 21/03/2022 22:51

"... without further ado"
"basically"
"not being funny, but..."

WeasilyPleased · 21/03/2022 22:51

Brought instead of bought.
Smile it may never happen. It'll happen to you in a minute if you don't stop your nonsense.

Firstinlastout · 21/03/2022 22:57

I was today years old when I learnt ......Fuckin today years old,it really pisses me off.

Yamyam13 · 21/03/2022 22:59

Back here to add Inhate when people refer to their unborn baby as ‘and Bump’

“Lots of love, Emma, Tim & Bump”

DO ONE Losers.

Lampyshady · 21/03/2022 22:59

110%. Or 11/10 etc. the whole point of percentages or a scale out of 10 is that it has an absolute maximum, where 10 or 100 is the best possible score, so saying higher than that ruins the whole system!
Also “taking a dump” always makes no sense as you’re not taking anything-if anything you are giving a dump!

MurmuratingStarling · 21/03/2022 23:04

I hate that one too!
Mariposista · 21/03/2022 23:04

hahahaha grab a coffee, I don't hate it but it is strange. If you did literally 'grab' the coffee you would get a nasty burn.
