Lapland UK queue support thread

146 replies

FlorrieFosdyke · 21/03/2022 12:26

So, I was planning on booking Lapland UK tickets today.

I had a work call that overran and I was 13 minutes late for the booking window. I'm now 71,369 in the queue.

I'm not going to get tickets, am I AngryShock

Anyone else in the queue for tickets?

Disclaimer: I know there are FAR FAR more important things to worry about and I should just donate the money I would have spent to charity. I know! But....

@Mulhollandmagoo I also haven’t had the confirmation email yet but have taken a picture of my booking reference.

Magicpaintbrush · 21/03/2022 15:56

A good alternative might be something like Christmas at Bedgebury Pinetum - that's in the Southeast but I would bet there will be other similar things around the country. It's a Christmas lights spectacular you walk around in a forest - very festive and lovely for kids if the Lapland thing is too griefy.

I’ve only heard it’s not that great. It’s dark the whole time too!

SolasAnla · 21/03/2022 16:05

@Boxowine

Nothing is worth this.
I beg to differ.😁 Went with family, 3ish to 8ish to Disneyland Paris. 4 action packed days, onsite hotel, countless rides, pics with the multiple characters, the grand parade. 4 days of fun and laughter. For years afterwards the holiday was remembered as when we went up the Eiffel Tower.🗼😁

This is stressing me out and I am not even in the queue!
It is reminding me of the stressful queueing for Leeds festival tickets for my daughter (which we got).

Contrary to what the prices being quoted may suggest, this is Lapland UK, not Lapland inside the Arctic Circle Smile.

Because I looked at the queue sometime around lunchtime, the clever internet fairies have saved my place for me and I've gone from something like 110000 to 11000, so when I get to the front, one of you nice MNetters can have my turn.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/03/2022 16:09

Perhaps there’s loads left as everyone gets through, sees the real cost and thinks “fuck that”

Or perhaps they're so grateful to have got through all the "tens of thousands" that they feel they have to book now for fear of not getting a place?

Either way let's hope all this, plus the crazy price, is worth it and folk have a great time (there's a significant number of terrible reviews from last year)

Hellyeahbaby · 21/03/2022 16:09

My starting place was 100997, now 2 hours later 34756

@BarbaraofSeville

Is Lapland UK one of those places where there's loads of social media complaints because it's really shit and they paid a fortune to see some fake snow and grumpy elves and the reindeer shit everywhere?
Definitely not-

It is fantastic! Took DD a few years ago and then DS worked there as a giant elf one Christmas and it is brilliant.

The staff take the magic very seriously and have to learn loads info and answers to DC questions.

Scandisaurus22 · 21/03/2022 16:22

I live not too far from the real Lappland, it would probably be quicker for me to drive there than to wait in this queue.. 😂

MummyPebble · 21/03/2022 16:29

Play around with dates and times and refresh. Initially the dates/times I wanted were showing as sold out so I went to another date, as I was about to book I thought I may as well check and see if the date we initially wanted was definitely gone and more than one slot was showing as back available so people must be adding/removing to their cart quite a bit.

They are saying this is the only booking window for this year and when they're gone that's it, unlike previous years where they've had two booking windows.

CrochetBug · 21/03/2022 16:32

@FlorrieFosdyke

You were very lucky *@MuddlingThrough1724*

@CrochetBug - what a lovely job. Is he an actor? The Father Christmas' look so realistic. It's so magical - even for the grown ups.

Well done t those who have tickets. We are still waiting - 17144 to go but it seems to be going down quicker now. I think you're right @Ohmych, people may have had to go on the school run and be missing out. That doesn't really seem fair Sad

He was an actor yes. The costumes are amazing. I hardly recognised him when he sent me photos!
Nocutenamesleft · 21/03/2022 16:34

Bit different. But I was 21,000 in the queue for les miserables one year when Matt Lucas was in it

It took me hours. But I got 2nd row tickets in a Saturday!!!

I cried for hours cos I joined with only 200 people in front of me. The phone did something funny and I lost my place.

When I rejoined. I was 21,000. Queue many many tears

gogohm · 21/03/2022 16:36

@Scandisaurus22

I'm in the U.K. and I could fly to the real Lapland in less time apparently it takes 31 hours to drive though...

eurochick · 21/03/2022 16:37

We went a couple of years ago. It's really well done. My daughter loved it. We did actual Lapland this Christmas and I have to say the Santa and elves were better at Lapland UK!

I’m in Sweden. Yeah, 31hrs sounds a bit too much and a bit too pricey at the moment..

Legoninjago1 · 21/03/2022 17:00

It's more Ascot than Bracknell Smile It really is bonkers money. We went last year and it was fab but prob a one off thing.

pawcontrol · 21/03/2022 17:16

Did anyone get the tickets they wanted ? I ended up paying £10 more per ticket than the one I wanted as they had gone. I was after the cheapest available, as Lapland Uk is way to expensive for me really. We went last year though and it's fantastic !

Peachesandcream15 · 21/03/2022 17:17

So it's not even a full day out...it's a half day? 😱 Over £500 for a family of 4 for a half day?

Mumofsend · 21/03/2022 17:19

I didn't buy in the end. Booked discovery cove for florida with the money instead Blush

Mumofsend · 21/03/2022 17:20

50/50 really unless they’ve made some changes

We went a few times pre covid. Last time in 2019

It was beautifully presented, really really nice to look at and a great atmosphere. Great costumes and in a lovely location and the the village etc and little houses really looked magical BUT ….

The beginning bit where they tell the story I’m done kind of holding area dragged on too long and a lot of children were bored.

It was also massively overbooked and crowded (hopefully covid has changed this). It was just packed and for the price you don’t want it that busy. Each activity was a bit rushed too

That said one thing that impressed me was how they dealt with my autistic toddler when he had a massive meltdown (which was threatening to ruin it for other families). They were kind and quick to act but in a really sensitive way and didn’t overwhelm him but gave us a quick route out and 3 ‘elves’ were lovely to our other dc

If it’s less busy now and more time allowed for each activity then it would be worth it so hopefully they’ve changed some things

pawcontrol · 21/03/2022 17:23

Yeah it's about 3.5 hours maybe 4 if don't move to the Santa part at the start of the time window you are allocated but go at the end. And you spend lots of time lingering in the gift shop. 😂 I think honestly you wouldn't want it to be a whole day you'd be exhausted ! But yes it's very expensive, it's an amazing experience and now I've been I'm not sure you can do a bog standard Santa after that.

My DS will be 6 and 1/2, so I expect his time of believing is limited now as they seem to grow up too fast these days.

WouldYouIo · 21/03/2022 17:24

Oh and I’d say as well if you are a socially anxious adult be careful in the first golfing area with the cafe as the elves like to pick out any parents looking miserable and get them to join in and it’s a bit humiliating I think I’d have cried if I’d been singled out ! A couple of men they picked out looked mortified and to be fair they played along but I can see it would be painful for anyone neurodiverse

WouldYouIo · 21/03/2022 17:24

Golfing ??!!! HOLDING !!
