Lapland UK queue support thread

FlorrieFosdyke · 21/03/2022 12:26

So, I was planning on booking Lapland UK tickets today.

I had a work call that overran and I was 13 minutes late for the booking window. I'm now 71,369 in the queue.

I'm not going to get tickets, am I AngryShock

Anyone else in the queue for tickets?

Disclaimer: I know there are FAR FAR more important things to worry about and I should just donate the money I would have spent to charity. I know! But....

@Porkbuttsandtaters

Hope you all got what you wanted. Anyone done any really really good Xmas trips up north? Lapland is just so far away for us, thought you lot might have some good ideas.
How far north? We have done the rufford abbey light spectacular before and that is absolutely brilliant!! Tickets go on sale soon and always sell out.
stimpyyouidiot · 22/03/2022 08:20

H waited in the queue but just couldn't justify the money for it!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 22/03/2022 11:49

@Teach234

We were going to do it but changed our mind to do real Lapland next year when our DD is 5. Looking for a lovely Christmas event for up north this year now 😂
Chester zoo lanterns are always gorgeous. We also Always go to Dunham Massey national trust event at xmas which is spell binding.
doobyscoob · 22/03/2022 17:40

I didn't know this queue was a thing

So does that mean we can't go this yesr? 🤦‍♀️

Wishingthreestonesaway · 22/03/2022 17:49

My friend took her five last Christmas and said it was very rushed and disappointing. She had an evening slot. Drove 200 mile round trip. When I asked the children about it (all FC believers), they were meh.

Chakraleaf · 22/03/2022 18:06

I'm in shock people do this 😅

Mummyofboysanddogs · 22/03/2022 18:41

This will be our child’s 5th time now. It is super expensive but we do only have 1 child. When I see people there with about 4 kids I wonder how on earth they can do it.
It’s apparently all sold out now. They usually do different release dates but they are saying only the one this year. I wonder if that is just a marketing ploy.

Agree it’s ridiculous planning FC in March but it seems this is what we have to do now 🙄.
I do think once you’ve gone once anywhere else you go afterwards apart from the official Lapland is just going to be a disappointment. Hence we keep on getting sucked back much to my husband’s annoyance.
I’ve seen some changes over the years all for the better to be fair. The booking system was a joke though this time. If it was cheaper I reckon it would be even worse! My advice would be don’t go in the first place then you won’t know any different!

busymomtoone · 22/03/2022 18:45

All I can say is hang on in there ! Took my DD years ago now and was v worried / sceptical - but it was absolutely magical and still one of her most vivid and treasured memories. I’m guessing the huge queue is because it doesn’t feel squashed, you get a 1:1 with Father Christmas and lots of activities throughout the day etc. Compared to actually going to Lapland it’s a bargain , and you don’t need all the special clothes/ flights etc. Hope everyone who wants tickets manages to get them ❤️🤞

Hmpf · 22/03/2022 19:02

We got tickets but now I’m like hmm should I cancel. We went last year, it was meant to be a one off thing. Kinda thinking oh well it’s paid for now but! Another 18:00 slot, same as last year but the actors around the village and the huskies had gone. It’s a lot of money when the stuff advertised doesn’t happen. Oh I don’t know what to do!

canary1 · 22/03/2022 19:08

I just booked today, there was no queue or problem

EmmaH2022 · 22/03/2022 19:37

@JudgeJ

John Oliver's programme last week did a section about booking events that was an eye-opener!
Looking for this Does anyone have a link?

Good luck everyone!

pupcakes · 22/03/2022 19:53

@FlorrieFosdyke any luck?!

Lapland with our 6 year old was one of the best days of my life, not kidding! Best memory

Taboo1 · 22/03/2022 20:01

Honestly it’s not a shit place. We went there one year with our son and daughter and it was amazing and magical…literally such a perfect day for us all!

SparklyShoesandTutus · 22/03/2022 20:01

@FlorrieFosdyke I need to know, did you get tickets?

I can't see an update

thegreenlight · 22/03/2022 20:07

I’ve looked at photos and Santa doesn’t even have a real beard! Unacceptable! That’s our non-negotiable!

BarbaraofSeville · 22/03/2022 20:51

We went to a lantern trail at the Yorkshire wildlife park last year. You could also get discounted entry to the park earlier in the day.

Really enjoyed it, and you could just see some of the nocturnal animals moving around in the dark like the red pandas.

HarrietsweetHarriet · 23/03/2022 08:38

Goodness, this seems pricey. What do you get for your money that's better than, say, a holiday cottage in the UK for a week or a festival like Latitude? (I wouldn't be able to afford both) .
For anyone who doesn't manage to get tickets I highly recommend the Hever Castle (Kent) Christmas experience....beautiful lights in the gardens and the castle specially decorated, usually visiting huskies, reindeer etc. Well worth a visit, little ones are enchanted. Even our mid-teen loved it.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 23/03/2022 08:53

We've done the illuminations at Yorkshire Wildlife park too and it truly is lovely. DDs birthday is in December so we too her and a friend a couple of years back as we were in tier 3 for COVID at the time and it was one of very few things we could so to celebrate!

FlorrieFosdyke · 23/03/2022 20:53

@SparklyShoesandTutus @Pupcakes - I did! Thank you for asking.

It wasn't the day or time that I was hoping for but we've got pretty good tickets and we are very excited!!!

@FlorrieFosdyke that's great.
I spent hours in the queue in the second wave last year.
We had a really great time and 2 DS aged 7 and 9 absolutely loved it. They got loads but still can't help but feel hard done by when the adult tickets don't even include a hot drink or gingerbread man in mother Christmas's kitchen.

RussianSpy101 · 24/03/2022 12:43

@Chakraleaf you don’t know why people take their children on days out? That’s really sad.
