Lapland UK queue support thread

FlorrieFosdyke · 21/03/2022 12:26

So, I was planning on booking Lapland UK tickets today.

I had a work call that overran and I was 13 minutes late for the booking window. I'm now 71,369 in the queue.

I'm not going to get tickets, am I AngryShock

Anyone else in the queue for tickets?

Disclaimer: I know there are FAR FAR more important things to worry about and I should just donate the money I would have spent to charity. I know! But....

Blimey, I spent six days in Lapland in late November and it only cost me £370 in flights and accommodation that slept four. Last year too.

Santa Claus Village is free entry, and then you can pay for extras like reindeer rides.

£600/four hours is insane.

Walkingalot · 21/03/2022 17:35

I've never been. My bro actually took his kids to Lapland and he enjoyed it more than they did. Lots of queuing, very cold etc.

By far the most Christmassy thing I've ever done was stay at Butlins (hotel, not cabins) over the Xmas school hols. It really was magical. I was so surprised cos it's shit any other time.

SeekingBalance · 21/03/2022 17:39

It does look incredible, but there's no way I'd spend that amount of money for them to still gift free experiences to "influencers", especially given how big the queue is. They obviously do not need the publicity!

elephantmarchingin · 21/03/2022 17:44

Yay. Got tickets for my 3rd date!!! Others had tickets but not at the time we wanted

RussianSpy101 · 21/03/2022 17:46

@thecatsthecats how did you manage that? I’ve been getting quotes for around £6000 for 2 nights for the 5 of us!

I stayed outside of the main complex just down the road - still in walking distance/a short bus ride, but not right in the village itself.

I went by myself, but the village itself isn't as nice a place to stay IMO as the kind of place I was - secluded enough for great northern lights views, less close to the food courts, so a bit more space to muck around in the snow by yourselves.

The prices went through the roof a week later, but I was still there for the official opening parade!

Halllyup17 · 21/03/2022 18:04

You all have more money than sense. However 'wonderful' and 'magical' it is, you can guarantee that one kid will lay down and refuse to move, the second will complain that they're cold/hungry/tired constantly, and the third will throw up on Santa.

Not worth hundreds of pounds for a few hours.

Cognoscenti · 21/03/2022 18:10

I'm not planning on going, but on searching it says tickets are around £59 per person? That's quite cheap, to be fair. Although mine are quite little so anything more than £100pp might feel like a little bit of a waste in the event of a tantrum!

RussianSpy101 · 21/03/2022 18:16

@thecatsthecats that sounds brilliant!

RussianSpy101 · 21/03/2022 18:16

@Cognoscenti they only had 2 dates at that price I think. When I went on they only had £129+ ones left

Emelene · 21/03/2022 18:36

Got through but the quote was over £700 for 4 of us. And they charge full price for any child over the age of 1. Completely unaffordable for us unfortunately!

Cherryonthetop2019 · 21/03/2022 18:37

We w et when DD was about 5/6 and she is 18 this year. Our tickets for last weekend before Xmas are £80 and at that stage it was a full day and even included a meal. There are no additional extras and the icing on the cake, we had a foot of real snow! Went again 4 years later and it was nowhere near as good. By this stage they had reduced what was included and you had to pay extra for food and I’ve skating. No real snow but it did rain. I can’t believe how much it is now!! I’m not sure I could justify it now and would rather go to actual Lapland for a bit more money!

Cherryonthetop2019 · 21/03/2022 18:38

Sorry for typos - should really put my glasses on! Grin

theemperorhasnoclothes · 21/03/2022 18:42

I got through and managed to book (for 1 adult and 2 kids due to the cost and DH not really liking this sort of thing) now I'm wondering if we should go or not as some saying not worth it - mixed reviews on tripadvisor. You have 14 days to change your mind.

We had a few nights away in a cottage just after Xmas last year for the same price.

At the same time DD2 is probably the perfect age for it. I'm seeing it as a once in a lifetime thing .

theemperorhasnoclothes · 21/03/2022 18:43

I don't mind paying if it's as magical as advertised, but standing in a queue for 90 mins in December does not sound fun.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/03/2022 18:54

@BarbaraofSeville

Is Lapland UK one of those places where there's loads of social media complaints because it's really shit and they paid a fortune to see some fake snow and grumpy elves and the reindeer shit everywhere?
That was a different one , they had a painted mural of Lapland , Father Christmas and the Elves were smoking outside their B&Q sheds log cabins . There was a muddy car park One of the parents got in a fight with the staff

There were comlaints that the huskies lookedt thin (maybe everyone was thinking Malamutes which are bigger and fuller coared ?)
Complaints that they were tethered (though a dog handler did reply if they weren't they would clear the fence , maul the reindeer and scarper , no small child wants to see that ! )
Apltly nicknamed Crapland UK

The Lapland UK proper used to be in Kent, I tried to get tickets years ago when my DC were younger . One year they had to cancel due to the snow. It did include a meal .
Now you have to buy their 'money' Jingles which I don't think you can exchange back.

pawcontrol · 21/03/2022 19:15

You can exchange unspent jingles yes. Ice skating is included. Food isn't and is very expensive. I would say it is very magical and they build it up sending you stuff. Definitely go.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/03/2022 19:30

I just looked on the Tulleys Farm website , they're selling tickets from the 25th for their Christmas event (and its £44ish for child £20ish adult )
It's on a farm so more 'open' by the looks of the video .

I'd love to go to the Hallowe'en event but my DD doesn't like the live actors (she was horrified at Thorpe Park Fright Night !)

vixeyann · 21/03/2022 19:55

How are there that many people willing to pay that sort of money for a half day experience! We had a lovely three day break for less than that cost!

Porkbuttsandtaters · 21/03/2022 20:24

Hope you all got what you wanted. Anyone done any really really good Xmas trips up north? Lapland is just so far away for us, thought you lot might have some good ideas.

HTH1 · 21/03/2022 20:48

I’m not remotely interested in going but just went on the website now out of curiosity and there seems to be quite a lot of availability and pretty much no queueing for anyone who is interested. I’m pretty free with money but I doubt I would pay those prices for a few hours in the U.K.!

It will be the more expensive weekday tickets left I assume ?

Price list here but it's from, so only some tickets at that price on the day, most times are much more 🤑

Teach234 · 21/03/2022 21:21

We were going to do it but changed our mind to do real Lapland next year when our DD is 5. Looking for a lovely Christmas event for up north this year now 😂

RussianSpy101 · 21/03/2022 21:46

@Teach234 we go to Stockeld Park which is Wetherby.

Sodullincomparison · 21/03/2022 22:00

I had no idea what price was coming my way but after five hours in the queue I was committed.

Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

Some friends I have go every year.
