What exercise do you try and do each week and what benefits do you see from it? Looking to try and get into it a bit more but not sure where to start!

I run three times a week, between 6-8 miles each time? Mixture of road and trail runs, sometimes on my own, sometimes with my running club. I also enter various races throughout the year from 10k to half marathon - so will do longer runs in training for a longer race.

I also do a bit of cross-training / use the elliptical if it I can’t get out for a run / want to rest my legs. I sporadically do yoga too.

The benefits? Awesome for endorphins, reduces migraines, helps me sleep, means I can eat what I want, keeps my body in good shape. Plus, I just get the enjoyment of it!

I go to the gym 3 times a week; I do an hour of weights and 15-20 mins either on the treadmill or in the pool.

Pilates and lots of walking. I tried running, but I hate it.

millytint44 · 12/03/2022 20:51

Yoga and swimming. I do both for my head rather than for my body.

Vallmo47 · 12/03/2022 20:51

I swim 5 times a week, started in January. Not only have I lost over a stone, before I even noticed a weight loss clothes fit better and body became more trimmed. Mentally I’m equally amazed - I completely unwind in the pool, forget about the world and just focus on what lap I’m on.
You get to know the regulars, they spur you on and I actually miss it on the weekends.
Sleep has also improved lots.

Mamamia7962 · 12/03/2022 20:52

I have a dog so walk at least an hour and a half a day. Really enjoy it and get to meet people.

dementedpixie · 12/03/2022 20:54

I do pump, attack, combat and balance. I like the social side as well as the classes themselves

countdowntonap · 12/03/2022 20:54

X3-4 spin classes
1-2 yoga classes
Dance class
Run up to 30 miles alone (used to be more but not as focused on running now)

MissDynamite23 · 12/03/2022 20:56

Lots of walking - minimum of three miles a day but usually more. A weekly hiit class. DS is almost 6 months and I’m getting back into a weekly yoga class as well. I intend to add a couple of 5k runs a week to this too but I think I’ll need to do couch25k as it’s been a while.

OnTopOfThePiano · 12/03/2022 20:56

Not sure lifting a wine glass a few evenings a week counts as exercise? Blush
But I do walk our 2 dogs twice a day for up to an hour a time.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/03/2022 20:57

I do 3 weights based classes a week and something cardio based three times a week. I look and feel stronger from the weights workouts. Cardio, I suppose I can't really see or feel a benefit. There obviously are benefits!

One day a week, I will do something stretchy (and nothing else). I find I stand taller from doing that, as well as looking leaner. Usually, an "easy" yoga workout, so I hold the poses for much longer than usual.

MissM2912 · 12/03/2022 20:59

I do a weekly hour long riding lesson and I absolutely love it- it has been brilliant for my mental health and good exercise.
I also have a big dog that I take for lots of walks. I am a healthy wait but would like to lose about 5lb.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 12/03/2022 20:59

I miss Attack 😢 There are no classes locally, and it's just not the same on demand.

@Rainydays55 - You need to find what works for you. I despise running but could do exercise classes all the time. Some people like to swim, others work out in the gym etc etc.

fallfallfall · 12/03/2022 21:02

45-60 minutes of Walk at Home i have an annual membership the app on my tv and really enjoying the Steel City Workouts.

Treaclepie19 · 12/03/2022 21:03

I've been doing couch 2 5k again. Got a bit bored though so I've been doing running classes on the peloton. Bodyweight classes on the peloton. Walking.

CryHavoc · 12/03/2022 21:03

I started CrossFit in late December and have become evangelical about it. I imagine everyone I know is bored shitless by my newfound love of it. I'm doing between 4 and 6 classes a week.
Yoga most days, and I have a dog so walk a few miles every day.
(Still a stubborn size 12, which I blame on my enthusiastic wine consumption)

Giraffapuses · 12/03/2022 21:03

Bouldering. Its the best.

MrsJBaptiste · 12/03/2022 21:03

I try to get to the gym 4-5 times a week although this week I've only managed to go 3 times so went for a run this morning. My challenge this month is to run 50 miles in 4 weeks and I've done 25 in 2 weeks so far 👍

I love it and look forward to going and getting on the treadmill or spinning bike after WFH all day. I love the endorphins it gives and it definitely helps to keep me in shape too - win win! 😁

MrsJBaptiste · 12/03/2022 21:06

@CryHavoc enthusiastic wine consumption Love it! 😂

DespairingHomeowner · 12/03/2022 21:08

A 45 min workout most mornings (YouTube cardio, weights or HIIT)

45 min walk at lunchtime

A weekly yoga class

And couch to 5k 2 nights a week - temporarily (will replace 2 of the workouts with a 45 min jog in time)

1 PT session a week with weights

This is plenty for me Grin

CryHavoc · 12/03/2022 21:13

When I do something I really commit Wink

Grasping · 12/03/2022 21:20

I walk wherever I can
If it’s too far I ride my bike.

I also run a couple of times a week and do some strength training when I can be bothered.

rookiemere · 12/03/2022 21:20
  • 5km parkrun most Saturdays and at least one more run during week of around 5km with friend
  • Bodypump class 1 x per week
  • 10000 steps most days ( walking the dog)
  • Occasional swim
CaribouCarafe · 12/03/2022 21:21

I used to rollerskate 3 times a week (for 2 hours a time) but mostly gave that up when I moved abroad due to climate.

I now do a weekly one hour ballet class and practice/stretch at home for up to 30 mins a day.

I should do more...but I really hate running and most sports really!

Benefits from the ballet: makes me limber, I get satisfaction from learning new skills, I get really in tune with my body and I find it quite meditative (especially at the barre). The class is one of the highlights of my week
