What exercise do you try and do each week and what benefits do you see from it? Looking to try and get into it a bit more but not sure where to start!

OP posts:
Roominmyhouse · 12/03/2022 22:29

Currently I do one 45 min personal training session, 2 Bootcamp type classes (mixture of cardio, kettlebells, body weight exercises and boxing) and one 45 min pilates session. Everything bar the pilates is outdoors. I really enjoy being outside in all weathers and it’s quite a sociable group too.

Thumpkin · 12/03/2022 22:35

I do an hour of weights three times a week where I work very hard and finish with 5 mins of HIT at the end of session. On other days, I do a deep stretch and I might do some Pilates or walking. The benefits have been that I feel good in my clothes, lower body fat, cellulite is all gone and I feel stronger. Before I felt a bit like a lazy slug. I don’t enjoy it - I hate it - I make myself do it.

SuziLikeSuziQ · 12/03/2022 22:37

One Zumba class and also Roller Derby once a week! Just a beginner at skating but loving it!

Shopgirl1 · 12/03/2022 22:43

Run 5-6 days a week, usually around 60km a week, a mix of short and longer easy runs and a couple of harder workouts. 1 - 2 gym sessions a week.
Also walk a lot.
Benefits - feel very fit, slim, toned, relatively fast in races for my age.

Redeyed · 12/03/2022 22:45

I regularly do Joe Wicks HIIT workouts and walk our two dogs every day.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 12/03/2022 22:47

I'm a dog walker so I'm out for roughly 12/15km a day through the week. I also horse ride once a week and often walk weekends too.

userxx · 12/03/2022 22:49

@OnTopOfThePiano

Not sure lifting a wine glass a few evenings a week counts as exercise? Blush But I do walk our 2 dogs twice a day for up to an hour a time.

As long as it's a large glass, it counts.

Gherkingreen · 12/03/2022 22:50

I walk at least an hour a day with my dog (he gets more walking time but we split it between us humans) and I do home workouts three or four times a week, either weights or high intensity classes on You Tube.
I used to go to the gym but I don't feel the need to these days.

Yourinmyspot · 12/03/2022 22:54

I do three runs a week at around 4 miles each. I go to walking group once a week and try and get another couple of walks in.

The benefits are I see my friends as I run with others generally and running club or parkrun. I sleep better, don’t need to worry about what I eat and just generally feel happier.

TheFormidableMrsC · 12/03/2022 22:56

I walk 40-50 miles a week and do 3 x 45 minute strength/weight classes a week. I also try and fit in some mountain biking. I'm strong but not skinny. Battling menopause and recovering from breast cancer but I am toned and in reasonable shape.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/03/2022 22:59

I run each morning, Mon-Fri, not far only 30 minutes (so distance depends how fast I'm feeling Grin), I then do approximately 45 minutes of walking throughout the day (2x school runs & to work & back), I do some gentle yoga each evening & I do a mixture of weights & hiit exercises 2-3 x a week. The benefits are I'm not a grumpy cow.

Fairislefandango · 12/03/2022 23:02

Lots of walking, yoga (a 90 min class once a week and 15-20 mins on about 3 other days). Sometimes a run on Saturdays (I used to run lots but my joints object now!).

Minikievs · 12/03/2022 23:04

I do body pump 2/3 times a week, combat 2/3 times a week, one body balance class and half an hour of badminton with my son (NOT very energetic, but it's nice time spent together)

I fall in and out of love with running. Ran a lot when the gyms were closed, did a couple of half marathons. Currently in a hate phase, so haven't run for about 9 months now.

I have a huge appetite and a weekend wine addiction, so the benefits are that I don't feel as guilty! It is hugely important for my mental health though. In fact running was incredible for clearing my head and releasing tension. I really ought to start again. Again 🙄

tiktokontheclock · 12/03/2022 23:08

Right now I'm in my first trimester and am doing nothing much. I am managing 30 mins of Pilates a week and it's not enough, but I'm so tired. Before I did a run, 2 HIIT classes, and one Pilates session.

Can't wait to get back to that after this but we will see - my daughter was a year before I got that routine back!

Chely · 12/03/2022 23:09

Weightlifting. Squats, rows, bench press, deadlifts, military press, tricep extensions front and lateral raises (2-3 times a week). Great for mental health, stronger, reduced my daily pain from arthritis and gave me a waist back after having some pretty huge pregnancies. Also do lots of walking with the dog and kids.

Chely · 12/03/2022 23:12

I continued the weight up to 35 weeks in my mostcrecent pregnancy and was back in 10 weeks post c-section. I missed it so much during the 3 month break and my joint felt painful.

Powersout · 12/03/2022 23:18

I cant believe how much most people on here do. I do 1 Les Mills body pump class and 1 Les Mills RPM (spin) class per week. Alongside eating healthily 80% of the time that's enough to keep me trim.

Fairislefandango · 12/03/2022 23:22

I don't really do exercise to keep me trim (I find only diet makes a real difference to that). I do it for general health, strength and flexibility. I really want to get back to doing some weights - it really mads me feel great, but I fell off the waggon a while back.

EastCoastExile · 12/03/2022 23:24

I run around 5x a week and do an online Pilates class and an online yoga class. Running is the best way I know to stay slim, clear my head and form friendships with lovely people who I would otherwise never have met.

Roominmyhouse · 12/03/2022 23:24

Exercise isn’t about keeping you trim, it’s the other health benefits which make it so important. Heart and lung health, and helping prevent osteoporosis which is so important especially for women as we are.

Shodan · 12/03/2022 23:29

Karate twice a week. A minimum hour long walk every day. And currently 50 squats a day. About four times a week I remember to attempt press ups too.

Then randomly- some weights, running, exercise programmes on you tube, tricep dips... whatever takes my fancy.

My main issue is that other than karate, I lose interest in exercises and give up after a couple of weeks. I did the couch to 5k during lockdown and got all the way to the end, then stopped. DS2 and I often restart but I have to go back to the beginning every time.

I've kept the walking up though for nearly four months so that's not bad. I think my bum is getting firmer, which is a goal, so I'll carry on.

GloriaSilver · 12/03/2022 23:35

I exercise pretty much daily. I have to really to keep weight down.
I do roughly 3 x spin classes a week, gym work, run twice a week.
I am happier and a better person because of it.
I choose to prioritise myself where exercise is concerned

Powersout · 12/03/2022 23:35

Eh? Exercise is absolutely about keeping you trim. Alongside other benefits. I'd choose exercise over calorie control any day.

Minikievs · 12/03/2022 23:36

I think posts like this though automatically attract the people that do exercise a lot. There are possibly a greater number of people that do much less (or more "normal" stuff like no classes or gym but they walk on the school run twice a day etc) but they'd be less likely to post than those that do exercise really regularly
