Dirty undergarments

Where does everyone put their dirty underwear that need washing? I wouldn't put it in wash basket with the rest of my clothes. I ask because I let mine pile up (weekly) and then put in for a wash as they don't get washed with any other clothing. What I have been doing is putting them in a medium sized laundry mesh bag, that I leave in the bathroom, not in open apparent space. But if you look around well enough, you will be able to spot it!
My issue is having to move it when we have workers round (boiler is in the bathroom) or even guests. Our downstairs bathroom is quite far from the living room so our guests unfortunately decide to go to our family bathroom upstairs as it's much closer. Just annoys me that I have to move it any time someone comes over. We've had 3 workers in the last 3 week that required work in the bathroom.
It got me thinking where do people put their underwear that need washing.

@Clymene

Why are you boiling your pants?
Hurts less than boiling your arse?
ukborn · 04/03/2022 00:10

They go in with everything else. Though I did have yuck moment years ago visiting a friend and on top of her laundry basket set in the kitchen where we were eating toast was a period stained pair of knickers!
But @ChipButtyCurrySauce - three loads a day?? Even with four kids from baby to teens I never did more than five or six loads a week!

Supersimkin2 · 04/03/2022 00:13

I fedex mine to Chernobyl daily. They’re stored in a bunker with radiation signs round it, just near where those calves were born with four heads.

Hellorhighwater · 04/03/2022 00:15

Surely if it comes out clean, it doesn’t matter what it went in with, it’s clean, and everything else is clean too. What an utterly bizarre idea!

Mind you, my late husband refused to put our clothes in the same suitcase. He seemed to think they might breed or something, so we all have our little foibles.

StrangerYears · 04/03/2022 00:15

How can knickers be so rancid as to need to be kept in a biohazard bag?

OK bras are washed separately on a 'hand wash' but everything else goes in together.

I have never heard of keeping underwear away from other clothes (well not in with tea towels, but they are not clothes).

watchingrnfire · 04/03/2022 00:15

@RoseslnTheHospital no but I have young children so wouldn't want it in easy reach of them

I only wear a pair of knickers once no way could I wash them and reuse them, maybe you should try it saves you from having to hide the dirty ones 😂😂😂😂

PamelaDoov · 04/03/2022 00:17

In our house, pants & socks go in a separate little washing basket, only because it makes it easier to make sure socks are definitely being put in the washing machine in pairs. DH gets through a million pairs of socks a week (construction worker) and if they went in the normal big washing basket, half of them would get lost at the bottom. Not a hygiene thing at all.

DoorWasAJar · 04/03/2022 00:17

@RoseslnTheHospital

My DH separates his pants from the rest of the laundry as he likes to wash them at 60. He has a separate smaller laundry basket for them, in the bedroom. It's not rocket science surely?
I wonder whether he read the same article I did, which said 40 degree washes left fecal matter behind 🤮
WetBlanket69 · 04/03/2022 00:17

@StrangerYears
Why won't you wash knickers with tea towels?? I just throw everything in together

Brilliant!

I thought I was the only one! Sometimes, mine get shipped back with a 3 eyed fish stowaway. My pond is full now. No idea what to do with them all.

Midlifemusings · 04/03/2022 00:18

I wash my underwear and socks together. Never with anything else!

No idea why - it is just how it is done.

But I put them all together in the laundry bin and then sort - darks, lights, and socks/underwear at the laundry room.

NeverChange · 04/03/2022 00:21

Still worried about myself now given the responses!

I do this too.

Normal clothes are washed together at 30 degrees.

Underwear all goes in a mesh bag and is watched at a higher temperature with towels & laundry.

All is kept in a laundry hamper in the ensuite until there is enough for a full wash.

Never knew this was weird!

Midlifemusings · 04/03/2022 00:24

Why don't you just keep the mesh bag in the laundry basket?

BlueSummerBaby · 04/03/2022 00:27

I prefer to wipe my butt after I've used the toilet. My pants aren't skiddy before they get washed never mind after!

TellMeMoreHellebore · 04/03/2022 00:27

I have NEVER hand washed bra's.... Mumsnet makes me feel like im doing life all wrong!!

watchingrnfire · 04/03/2022 00:28

Honestly I can't with this type of people, just because you don't think it's normal doesn't mean it isn't.
I also don't use fabric softener on underwear but I do for the rest of my clothes, so that is also another reason for separation. Quite frankly I think it's disgusting you would wash your period PANTS with clothing of the rest of the family. So you may think am weird but I think your way is weird so 🤷‍♀️
Stains don't always come out of clothes but am sure you all are fine with that, some of us are just more cleaner

The poster that mentioned eating at their friends with period stain underwear in view - there you go my point proven

It's only blood...

Traumdeuter · 04/03/2022 00:31

@TellMeMoreHellebore me neither, nor do I separate lights and darks. I just wash a load of stuff based on the desire or need to have it freshly laundered. Might do three loads a week if I’m busy, or might do three loads a day if the sun’s shining.

Rogue1001MNer · 04/03/2022 00:33

How skanky are your knickers???

Personally, I just don't wear underwear. Eliminates the problem!

But then your tights, trousers, leggings, joggers etc soak up your toxic waste instead.
IcakethereforeIam · 04/03/2022 00:36

I had a collie who used to fish dirty knickers out of the laundry basket and put them in the hand of visitors. They'd be sat chatting, mug of tea in one hand and suddenly a rancid pair of pants in the other!

Oh Shep (yes really, he was a rescue), still miss you.

pawpaws2022 · 04/03/2022 00:36

In the wash basket. I also use reusable pads, snd they go in with other stuff (live alone so not other peoples). I just put them in alone on a rinse cycle first then add the rest of my washing

nomoremsniceperson · 04/03/2022 00:38

Jesus OP. My kids came out of my vagina, pretty sure they'll survive having their clothes washed in the same machine as my pants

feministqueen · 04/03/2022 00:40

Everything goes in the same laundry basket here but I do seperate out underwear and wash pants on 60c along with my towels and bedding. Everything else goes on 40c. I don't store them separately until they go in the machine tho!
