Dumped for eating Maltesers

Malteesser · 03/03/2022 22:39

Been seeing someone for a few weeks. We went to cinema last night and he bought popcorn and I bought a big bag of maltesers. I opened them when we sat down and began eating them. He said “why don’t you wait until the film starts?” So I just laughed and said “too tempting” as a joke. He seemed irritated and said something like “you won’t have any left by time the film starts”. This got my back up a bit and I just carried on as I was. I finished the bag around 10 minutes into the film. I saw him watching me and felt his disapproval Hmm but why?? It didn’t effect him, he had his popcorn. He was really grumpy throughout the film and afterwards was quite off with me. We were meant to be going for something to eat but he said he wasn’t really in the mood and would be heading home.

Before I went to bed I text him asking if I’d done something to upset him and he replied “I don’t think this will work out, it’s nothing personal x” Hmm I replied “ok no worries”.

It’s been bugging me all day as before we sat down in the cinema he was absolutely fine!!! We were laughing and joking etc, no bad feeling at all and he literally changed as soon as we sat down.

Have I been dumped for bad Malteser etiquette?!?

sounds like controlling behavior or he cant stand the noise maybe? a lot of people do have a thing about hearing other people eat

Catflapkitkat · 04/03/2022 02:12

I bet his past is littered with stories like yours

All hail The Malteser rescue

TheGrinchsDog · 04/03/2022 02:50

Even if he does have misophonia he's still acted a dick about it. He told you what he wanted and when you didn't comply he sat all grumpy about it.

He could have said 'I have misophonia' and whatever but I think he was just a controlling and grumpy twat.

Person123456 · 04/03/2022 02:52

maybe hes jealous he didn't think to get them instead? or hes just using that as an excuse to end the relationship, he might have been looking for an argument to end it for one reason or another

PerditaPerdita · 04/03/2022 04:04

Pity you didn't put your head back, open your jaws and try to throw Maltesers into your mouth, throwing them up in an arc that everyone could see in the projector light .....

superram · 04/03/2022 04:11

Be honest, are you a noisy eater? I have misophonia and would dump someone who are noisily, I wouldn’t say anything though as it’s my issue and rude.

twominutesmore · 04/03/2022 04:13

I think, if he liked you, he wouldn't care how, when or where you ate a bag of Maltesers. Either he was already thinking of dumping you, or something about the way you ate them gave him the ick, or it is nothing to do with the Maltesers at all.

WTF475878237NC · 04/03/2022 04:28

This may sound odd but I have a thing about people with no self control who need instant gratification...so for example I would internally wince at the person who eats their advent calendar or Easter egg all in one go before the holiday even starts (not because I'm anti Christian). I wonder if he feels the ick over this too

Mercurial123 · 04/03/2022 04:56

Agree with pp he was trying to break up with you before the Maltesers. No great loss though.

LadyPropane · 04/03/2022 05:02

@oviraptor21

I think he wanted to eat his popcorn and then eat your Maltesers.
Quite possibly.

I also think he wanted you to do things exactly the way he wanted, and when you didn't do what you were told, he got pissed off.

Don't respond to any more of his messages (I really think he will message you again). Ignore him. Enjoy your freedom. And perhaps go and grab some more Maltesers Smile

Pyewhacket · 04/03/2022 05:06

What was the film ?

catwomando · 04/03/2022 05:17

I want a bag of Maltesers now.

Lucky escape OP , he sounds nuts.

But what law on earth says that you can ONLY eat it while the actual film.is playing?
Chasingaftermidnight · 04/03/2022 07:09

I probably would have been a bit grossed out by someone eating a large bag of Maltesers to themselves in such a short space of time so my guess would be that he ‘got the ick’ over that.

I think YWNBU for eating your Maltesers, but he WNBU to dump you if he felt turned off by it. Just means you’re incompatible and that’s ok.

KindlyKanga · 04/03/2022 07:12

How odd. He maybe was expecting to share? Or you are a really noisy eater? Or he's just not that in to you.

Selma22 · 04/03/2022 07:20

Sounds like a control thing. I I imagine he is the type of a person who would comment on everything he deems less than perfect

Parky04 · 04/03/2022 07:24

My minstrels never see the start of the film!

Holothane · 04/03/2022 07:28

I buy the biggest popcorn going no chance, you’ve dodged a butter there.

Beamur · 04/03/2022 07:28

He's weird. Dodged a bullet there!
I always eat my sweets before the film.as I don't like to hear munching and rustling once it starts - like all the other normal people 😁😁

Octopuscrazy · 04/03/2022 07:30

Lucky escape OP!

I read your thread last night before I went to sleep. Then this morning I was looking for something in a bag I hadn't used for about a week and found a bag of malteasers. I felt like I had won the lottery! Grin

MordredsOrrery · 04/03/2022 07:30

I thought the point was to eat the snacks before getting into the film so then you can concentrate?

Either way, you're better off with the maltesers than the guy you went with.

NameChanger45465465 · 04/03/2022 07:33

You gave him the ick I would assume. At least he told you and didn't just ghost you !

My husband is EXACTLY the same!!! He's not a dick about it but I know he hates it 😂
Lockheart · 04/03/2022 07:46

It's odd, a woman can dump a man for any reason at all, and it's absolutely fine (of course).

But this guy is a twat / pillock / controlling?

I'm sorry you were dumped OP, it always sucks regardless.

Person123456 · 04/03/2022 07:47

i can only imagine this guys reaction if she bought starburst or something really chewy
