Dumped for eating Maltesers

Been seeing someone for a few weeks. We went to cinema last night and he bought popcorn and I bought a big bag of maltesers. I opened them when we sat down and began eating them. He said “why don’t you wait until the film starts?” So I just laughed and said “too tempting” as a joke. He seemed irritated and said something like “you won’t have any left by time the film starts”. This got my back up a bit and I just carried on as I was. I finished the bag around 10 minutes into the film. I saw him watching me and felt his disapproval Hmm but why?? It didn’t effect him, he had his popcorn. He was really grumpy throughout the film and afterwards was quite off with me. We were meant to be going for something to eat but he said he wasn’t really in the mood and would be heading home.

Before I went to bed I text him asking if I’d done something to upset him and he replied “I don’t think this will work out, it’s nothing personal x” Hmm I replied “ok no worries”.

It’s been bugging me all day as before we sat down in the cinema he was absolutely fine!!! We were laughing and joking etc, no bad feeling at all and he literally changed as soon as we sat down.

Have I been dumped for bad Malteser etiquette?!?

Why do I feel like this is a sneaky advert for maltesers?

😅

JeremyBeadlesTinyHand · 03/03/2022 23:28

I once dated a guy who admitted after a few drinks he had dumped a girl for eating a "whole share size bag of Doritos". He waffled on about his mum being overweight and how people needed to have some self control. I blocked his number as soon as I got home, but still think of him when I eat a whole bag of doritos.

B r i l l i a n t
I can go to sleep happy - what a story!!
What a w*nker
Should have accidentally tipped his popcorn in the floor and seen if he’d fainted
😀

On…

CheeseTown · 03/03/2022 23:30

So you had to make a choice between a bag of maltesers and a potential mate for life and you chose the maltesers.

Best choice you will have ever made!! Bless that bag of maltesers for showing you the kind of person he is.

Besides even if he didn't dump you because I'd the maltesers he still dumped you without an explanation so he's definitely a dick.

Sweetpea1532 · 03/03/2022 23:32

@NewYearCalavicci ...you need to weigh in here as it falls under the realm of your duties as 2nd in command as the Maltesers spokesperson Grin

XenoBitch · 03/03/2022 23:32

Anyone else really craving Malteasers now?

Belle82 · 03/03/2022 23:32

WTAF! Weirdo

I have a bag in the kitchen
Motheranddaughtertotwo · 03/03/2022 23:33

As someone who always waits for the film to start before I start snacking, I can confirm he is ridiculous. I like to wait and savour my snacks throughout the film, my husband starts eating the minute his bum touches the seat, we laugh about how weird each other is and make sure we have enough to last us both before and during the film. You definitely had a lucky escape? Imaging really caring about something so petty?!?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 03/03/2022 23:35

I do think it's a bit weird how people manage to eat all/most of their snacks before the movie has even started Confused But he seems irrationally angry about it! You dodged a bullet there OP!

Alexandria94 · 03/03/2022 23:36

@Midlifemusings

He probably has misophonia and the chomping of malteasers in his ear without the background sound of the movie to block it out was putting him over the edge.
This! Would totally put me off somebody too. May seem crazy/controlling/irrational to many, however if you have misophonia then sitting listening to somebody crunch their way through a big bag of malteasers within 10 minutes would be awful and so tense.
Im2022 · 03/03/2022 23:37

YABU for buying maltesers from the cinema.

YABU for giving a shit about this dick head.

YANBU for eating the maltesers in the cinema before the film started.

PleaseDontDriveMeBlind · 03/03/2022 23:38

I would assume that you were going to start asking for his popcorn after you'd finished eating. Now that would piss me off!

But she didn't ask for his popcorn, so it can't be the reason, because he was still annoyed after the film after he got his popcorn all to himself.

PleaseDontDriveMeBlind · 03/03/2022 23:41

however if you have misophonia then sitting listening to somebody crunch their way through a big bag of malteasers within 10 minutes would be awful and so tense.

How do people with misophonia ever have relationships if the sound of someone eating makes you angry with that person? Do you have to leave the dinner table and always eat on your own, can't your partner sit and eat a packet of crisps while you watch TV together?

There would be many difficulties, I presume.

Alexandria94 · 03/03/2022 23:43

I should add, even if it was due to misophonia you have still dodged a bullet. It's not easy to go out with somebody with it. Unless you want to very slowly and quietly bite and then suck every malteaser for the rest of your life then you are better off without him.

onedayiwillflyaway1 · 03/03/2022 23:43

I would be devastated that I didn't buy two packets.

BadNomad · 03/03/2022 23:43

According to another thread you are supposed to give your partner at least half of your chocolates. Therefore he dumped you for being a CF.

Enough4me · 03/03/2022 23:43

If he likes to nibble or suck the chocolate off, he may have thought you were rushing them. Malteser fanatics like me are best avoided. Or you dribble when you eat chocolate?

Somebody sitting and eating a packet of crisps next to you while you tried to watch the TV would not be enjoyable at all. It does get in the way and is really unpleasant for both parties.
justdeciding · 03/03/2022 23:49
  1. This thread is amazing, I'm making it the last one I read before going to sleep.
  1. Clearly he got the ick over the maltesers, happens to the best of us 😂 and he's left you with a funny story, the greatest parting gift.
  1. I'm heavily pregnant and now all I want is to smash down a bag of maltesers.

But what business it is of his? She can rush them or not rush them, doesn’t affect him Confused
Phlewf · 03/03/2022 23:49

My revelation at the cinema is coffee (mainly cause then I stay awake all the way through) but my goodness do people need to tell me how they normally get popcorn as though I haven’t worked it out!
The only advantage of the cinema is you get total darkness to trough away. I bet he’s one of those people who pause the tv at home everytime your eyes move slightly from the screen. Bugger off I’m searching for my phone which I will then stare at for 20 mins because super bat boy and the zebedees from Mars isn’t that hard to follow dh.

BobHadBitchTits · 03/03/2022 23:50

Maltesers are gross.

He is NBU!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 03/03/2022 23:51

Oh man. He got the ick from you eating your snacks in the previews Grin

Lucky escape I think!
