Dumped for eating Maltesers

Been seeing someone for a few weeks. We went to cinema last night and he bought popcorn and I bought a big bag of maltesers. I opened them when we sat down and began eating them. He said “why don’t you wait until the film starts?” So I just laughed and said “too tempting” as a joke. He seemed irritated and said something like “you won’t have any left by time the film starts”. This got my back up a bit and I just carried on as I was. I finished the bag around 10 minutes into the film. I saw him watching me and felt his disapproval Hmm but why?? It didn’t effect him, he had his popcorn. He was really grumpy throughout the film and afterwards was quite off with me. We were meant to be going for something to eat but he said he wasn’t really in the mood and would be heading home.

Before I went to bed I text him asking if I’d done something to upset him and he replied “I don’t think this will work out, it’s nothing personal x” Hmm I replied “ok no worries”.

It’s been bugging me all day as before we sat down in the cinema he was absolutely fine!!! We were laughing and joking etc, no bad feeling at all and he literally changed as soon as we sat down.

Have I been dumped for bad Malteser etiquette?!?

I’d much rather you eat snacks before the film starts than rustlel and chomp during the film itself.

He sounds like a man who doesn’t like a woman who says no to him. Think yourself lucky, he’s saved you the job of dumping him further down the line.

KimCheese · 03/03/2022 22:57

@BabyTurtIe

Well it’s the truth, he obviously didn’t dump her over a bag of maltesers
Is it the truth ? Okay.

All I'm saying is read the tone of the thread, it's quite light hearted, she's been let down by a massive twat, I don't think your truth bomb is really needed.

Malteesser · 03/03/2022 22:58

@PeakyBlender

Ask him. Just for the lols then report back.
Should I? 😂

I think it was a test, to see if you’d do what he said. You’ve had a lucky escape!

VelvetChairGirl · 03/03/2022 22:59

you got dumped for not doing as you were told, controlling bastards start off rather cryptically, rather then in your face do as I say.

its testing the waters to see if you take their "advice".

KimCheese · 03/03/2022 23:00

Maybe ask if you'd still be together if you'd chosen Revels?

longcoffeebreak · 03/03/2022 23:00

Yes we need to know! Ask him!

AdoptedBumpkin · 03/03/2022 23:00

If it was the only reason, then he's batty and you've had a lucky escape.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/03/2022 23:01

YANBU for being unable to resist Malteasers, they’re the best chocolate. He sounds like an idiot, consider a bullet dodged!

ThinWomansBrain · 03/03/2022 23:02

yabu - maltesers are vile

MurmuratingStarling · 03/03/2022 23:02

Agree with the others. You dodged a bullet! He sounds like a tit!

whirlygirl · 03/03/2022 23:02

Did you blow them in the air and catch them in your mouth? I would have if he'd given me the side eye.

VelvetChairGirl · 03/03/2022 23:03

@Bluelillies

I once got dumped for wearing ugg boots I’d arranged to meet him but I had a knackered ankle and they where the only footwear I could wear at the time We met and within seconds he started screaming at me for being ‘chavvy’ and ‘cheap’ I walked away-and the next day he texted to demand a shag I told him I was up for it but I can only shag while wearing uggs-they turn me on in a way no man ever could

Never heard from him again

YABU Ugg boots are bloody awful.
cutebutscary · 03/03/2022 23:04

Were you malteasing him? Perhaps too it was your methodology, are you a chocolate remover , followed by the malty ball? Do you bite in half , are you a long slow sucker ? I can imagine any one of these to be end of the world stuff to a petulant controlling man child . 'Licky' escape 😉 perhaps this will be known as the malteaser test . Worth trying on all future prospective partners !!

DaisyDuck999 · 03/03/2022 23:04

He's bonkers. You've had a lucky escape. Celebrates with a box of Maltesers! More in a box than a bag 😂

powershowerforanhour · 03/03/2022 23:06

Either he was going to dump you anyway and hooked it on the flimsiest of pretexts, or you inadvertently applied the "No" test which he failed abominably.

PetrasPurse · 03/03/2022 23:06

What's a dickhead, sounds like you've had a lucky escape! He clearly regretted getting the popcorn 😂

midlifecrash · 03/03/2022 23:06

Seems some men have a weird thing about women enjoying food. Maybe it took your attention away from him… diddums

Jewel52 · 03/03/2022 23:08

@toastfiend

All hail the Maltesers for saving you from a twat!

Twas nought but an excuse
Tigofigo · 03/03/2022 23:08

Did you put them in your mouth, suck all the chocolate off, take them out again covered in spit then nibble the middle bit like a rabbit?

Cos if you did it could have been that

Tigofigo · 03/03/2022 23:08

I really want a box of malteasers now

grapewines · 03/03/2022 23:09

I'd thank my lucky stars he showed himself to be a twat early.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 03/03/2022 23:09

I get slightly stressed (but keep it inside) when dc eat their cinema treats during the adverts because they “won’t have any left for the film” but have to have a word with myself that it doesn’t matter and it’s because they’re bored in the adverts but will be distracted by the film. My only worry is they might want more and have a tantrum - although they’re old enough now that that’s not a worry. I couldn’t care less how quickly dh scoffs sweets though. That’s weird. Lucky escape!

BOOTS52 · 03/03/2022 23:09

You have had a lucky escape. He sounds very controlling and wanted you to eat them when he wanted you to eat them, feck that. You should have went and got yourself a 2nd packet to really piss him off. He sounds like a right miserable arsehole. Did he save some of his popcorn for his dinner. Anyone who you get that uptight feeling from, disapproving looks, are so uptight that you would never be able to be yourself with anyway. Who made him the malteser police.
